This Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord mod will turn it into Lord of The Rings

You'll soon be able to enter Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord's battlefields as your favourite Lord of the Rings heroes and villains, thanks to an upcoming overhaul mod called Kingdoms of Arda. The mod will transform Bannerlord's campaign with new quests, companions, and new locations such as a Middle Earth map. Alongside this, an additional story mode will let you play out iconic battles from Tolkien's history, switching heroes and units in a game mode inspired by Battlefront-like Lord of The Rings: Conquest.

As modder Macbeth of Gondor explains, Kingdoms of Arda has been in the conceptual stage for years now, but the recent addition of official modding tools to Bannerlord has brought many of their ideas that much closer to becoming reality.

The Kingdoms of Arda team mentioned in a recent ModDB update that they "had the pleasure of being included in the testing phase of mod tools," and "worked with Taleworlds to test and learn the tools". The new tools mean the team can start work on the campaign, coding factions, settlements, troops, and much more.

Bannerlord's modding tools have arrived

Bannerlord's modding tools have arrived

It's an important day in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord history: official modding tools have arrived, which means it's time for the Mount & Blade community's diligent army of modders to start going to town on every element of the open-world game they can get their hands on. The tools are downloadable in beta form right now, and while TaleWorlds says it's just "the first batch", there are quite a few of them.

There are two sets of tools available now. The first is the Scene Editor toolset, which includes everything you need for entity placement, level editing, path editing, terrain editing, and more. Then there's the Resource Editors, and those let you get creative with materials, textures, meshes, cloth, bodies, skeletons, particles, animations, and just about anything else.

To access the tools, you'll need to have Bannerlord in your Steam library. Go to your Steam Library page, and select 'Tools' in the list filter. Search for 'Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - Modding Kit,' and download that package (you'll need to accept a license agreement to do so). You'll also need to have Bannerlord installed and up to date.
