Let’s all march towards the release with our pockets full of bread![/p][p]You know you were born for something greater, and this greater can only be achieved by spreading your holy words to all of 14th-century Italy. The title is self-explanatory, but to become a saint in the shortest period after your death, you will need to face many challenges. The more impact you make in your lifetime with your conversion skills, the more likely that you’ll become a saint quickly.[/p][p]To achieve this goal, you will need to convince people to follow you and spread your movement by converting towns to your beliefs… But you are not the only one grasping for the people’s faith, as other powers in place will challenge your authority… Or use you to their advantage.[/p][p][/p][p]In Becoming Saint, you will have access to:[/p]

  • [p]And more to discover![/p]
[p][/p][p]The game has some autobattler mechanics during combat when converting a city. You can choose between two modes for the control of your units:[/p]
  • [p]The Autobattler Mode: in the Autobattler Mode, the units move by themselves and you can let the flow of the battle follow its own path[/p]
  • [p]The Manual Movement Mode: in the Manual Movement Mode, you will have more control over the units placement and how they move on the battlefield[/p]
[p][/p][p][/p][p]The game will be available at launch in 13 languages:[/p]

[/p][p]The game will also be ported to Switch and on mobile a little bit after the PC launch.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]The game releases on July 15th.[/p][p][/p][p]Becoming Saint blends quick strategic battles with narrative layers. The game evolves around themes like society and religion with a tragicomic narrative where each playthrough presents different moral, cultural, and religious choices, leading to various outcomes. While the themes are serious and some endings are tragic, they’re all laced with humor. You’re also be part of a rebellious movement in medieval Italy, facing historical figures like the Pope and imagining how you would have thrived (or fallen) at that time period.[/p][p]The combat system is also semi-automated with more or less guidance on your units depending on the playstyle you enjoy more, offering a variety of synergies and tactics in confrontations.[/p][p]This combination of narrative elements and strategic battles leads to new challenges as each personality offers a set of units and synergies, giving a replayable aspect as each path to sainthood will be different depending on your choices.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Simple tactical games, like Bad North and Tabs, or even Into the Breach inspired us to create Becoming Saint. We always wondered how these games would be by adding in some way a narrative layer integrated with their wonderful mechanics and design; a layer that is not just a bridge between battles, but that has an influence on the mechanics. Also, we are fascinated by autobattlers, like Despot's Game: Dystopian Battle Simulator. We like battles in small grids, as in Banner Saga and Into the Breach. So Becoming Saint is inspired by all of this, but also with a quite unique touch.
[/p][p]You can learn more about our inspirations in our dedicated Steam News: [/p][p][dynamiclink][/dynamiclink][/p][p][/p][p]The game features a “large fonts” option that enables larger fonts in the game’s user interface.[/p][p]The game is playable with just the mouse, or the mouse and keyboard, or from any PC/Xbox compatible controller.[/p][p][/p][p]Open Lab is an award-winning Italian independent studio and design agency founded in 2001. It works in multiple media and creates narratives based on popular culture themes. The team explores new narrative applications under strong artistic directions (Football Drama, Roller Drama). Becoming Saint merges an evolutive narrative and socio-political themes with a tactical medieval game of conquest.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We hope we've answered your questions regarding the game. If you still have some left, feel free to ask them in the comments or on our Discord (and if you'd like to chat with us about your pets or favorite games!). Have a great day, heretics, and see you in two weeks![/p][p][/p][p]Stay blessed![/p][p][/p][p]-The Becoming Saint team-[/p][p]

Steam Next Fest is Over – Here's What's Changing After Your Feedback

[p]Hi everyone!

First of all, a big thank you to everyone who added Becoming Saint to their wishlist during the Steam Fest – that was a lot of you! We now have more than 20 000 wishlists and that's truly a blessing![/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]We also received tons of valuable feedback, and we’ve already started implementing changes to improve the game experience.

One common point was that converting towns felt a bit hard to “read” – so we’ve made several adjustments, some of which are already live in the updated demo:
[/p]
  • [p]Clearer Game Mode Selection

The two modes – “Autobattler” and “Manual Movement” – now appear in a clear, dedicated panel at the start of the game. It also remembers your last choice for convenience. (See image)

  • [p]Slower Confrontation Timing

Previously, too many things happened at once during confrontations, giving less experienced players little time to bless, curse, move, or intervene. We’ve slowed things down to give you more control and breathing room.
    [/p]
  • [p]New “Training Mode” (Coming Soon!)

This is a big one: we’re adding a
  • Training Mode* that lets you practice confrontations in placeholder towns as many times as you like. It’s a great way to sharpen your skills before jumping into the full game. (See video.)

The first two updates are already available in the latest demo. The new Training Mode is coming next week. The Steam Next Fest might be over, but you can still enjoy our free demo with all the recent changes until June 25th! All feedback is always welcome and you can share it through our form here!

Thanks again for your support – and we hope these changes help you on your journey to becoming a saint![/p][p][/p][p]-The Becoming Saint team-[/p]

Becoming Saint is a real-time strategy cult-builder in which you pitch Jesters against the Pope

I was 20 minutes into the demo before I realised that Becoming Saint is that most terrible of things, another roguelike, but that's OK, because by then I'd been burned at the stake for heresy after failing to convert the homely town of Spoleto. The presiding Inquisitor very kindly let me off 100 years of purgatory because I'd mostly rebelled against the Emperor, not the Pope. But then he slapped on 68 years for "minor sins".

I'm not sure which sins. Possibly my being a bit parsimonious with the bread rations on the road to Spoleto? Possibly my favouring the company of a majestic wolf, "strong as he is beautiful"? Regardless, the happy ending here is that after 968 years in purgatory, I was eventually canonised as a Saint in the year 2317. Today, 29th May, is in fact Saint Edwina's day. If you would like Saint Edwina's blessing, know that she accepts all major credit cards and is also happy to be paid in vouchers for Cafe Neros.
