Lords Of The Fallen News

This Lords of the Fallen boss fight sure reminds me of Elden Ring's Malenia, Radagon and Morgott

If you play enough action RPGs, particularly Souls-likes, you're going to notice certain moves and attack patterns by the biggest bosses. FromSoftware's even re-uses certain animations from its earlier games all the time, but the developer is typically good at recontextualising them so it doesn't look like the same exact move.

That's also true for games inspired by FromSoftware's vast body of work, so it's not surprising to see the upcoming Lords of the Fallen picking up a few cues from Elden Ring. The game's latest 20-minute gameplay showcase delivers a whole lot of juicy information and plenty of exciting combat.

But one thing that stood out to me happens near the beginning in the video, and it's the boss fight against Pieta. Right from her introductory cutscene, we see a certain golden hue to Pieta's sword, which should be quite familiar to Elden Ring players.

Lords of the Fallen appears to be getting Souls right this time - see for yourself in new gameplay footage

Lords of the Fallen, not to be confused with Lords of the Fallen (2014), is the reboot that was initially titled The Lords of the Fallen. If you haven't already clicked off the page, you're actually in for a pretty solid few minutes.

Today, developer Hexworks released a chonky 20-minute gameplay walkthrough that showcases the game's unique parallel-world mechanic, combat, exploration, boss fights and more - all of it to hopefully prove that all the name change nonsense has been worth it.

The main focus of the demo is showing off how realm traversal works. Lords of the Fallen takes place over two version of the same place. Axiom, and Umbral. Axiom is the living realm, and Umbral is the world of the undead.

Lords of the Fallen's "Dual Worlds" is helping set it apart from its Dark Souls inspirations

Lords of the Fallen got another gameplay showcase yesterday, showing off its "Dual Worlds" and tough looking bosses.

While this reboot of Lords of the Fallen has been a long time in the making, it's only a few months away now, finally launching this October. Yesterday, at the Future Games Show, we got another look at the Soulslike, with a particular highlight of its "Dual Worlds," something that looks like it should set itself apart from its Dark Souls inspirations. Essentially the whole world will have two versions, one of it the real world, so to speak, and the other being the Umbral realm, a spiritual realm that has different paths, enemies, and treasures to discover.

It seems you'll be using an Umbral lamp in order to travel between these two worlds, with two main ways to do so. The first is a simple one: die! When you're killed by an enemy, you'll just resurrect on the spot, though in the Umbral realm as opposed to the real world. The other still involves dying, kind of, though this method - called an Umbral rift - just requires you to sacrifice one of your two lives. It also looks like you can use your lamp to see into the other world, which looks pretty impressive from a technical standpoint. Word to the wise, though, you don't want to spend too much time in the Umbral realm, as the longer you do, the more spectral terrors turn up to try to kill you again.

Lords of the Fallen gets a proper gameplay trailer and an October release date

Lords of the Fallen has finally gotten its first gameplay trailer, as well as a release date locking in the game for this October.

Are you in need of a Souls-like to be excited for and to keep you going while you wait for a proper reveal of Elden Ring's DLC? Developer Hexworks has finally given us a proper gameplay trailer for the Lords of the Fallen reboot, showing off what you can expect to do when the game launches October 13 - a release date that was also revealed during the trailer.

Unsurprisingly, it looks like a Souls game! A big, expansive fantasy setting, difficult and monstrous looking bosses, people spouting dialogue at you that you're sure is telling you some kind of story but you'll just wait until some YouTuber compiles all the lore together and watch that instead of trying to figure it out yourself. It's all there, and for some reason it's set to Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark, which yeah sure, I guess heavy metal makes sense as a genre to use, but it does feel a bit odd tonally nonetheless.
