Client Update 12/24/2021

Merry Christmas & happy holidays arcaders! Today's small update fixes an old issue w/ the leavers in HUB maps that would cause them to randomly crash when pulled. :S

It also adds the ability to have a confirmation message displayed when you customize items w/ drag & drop. (You'd have to turn it on first in Main Menu > Settings > UI tab > Drag & Drop Item Update Confirmation.) This particular feature was a request from the last AArcade Meetup event we had.

As always, if you need any help or just want to connect w/ myself & the community, you are invited to join us in the AArcade Discord: https://discord.gg/9FSCDuJ

Party on!

Change Log
 • Fixed instability of levers in hub_ maps.
 • Added an update item confirmation menu that gives you a chance to cancel your drag & drop item update.
 • Added Drag & Drop Item Update Confirmation to the UI tab of the Settings menu.
 • Added a scroll bar to the UI tab of the Settings menu.

Web Browser Hotfix

Hello arcaders! This update fixes an issue that was causing in-game web tabs to crash AArcade when they were opening up on the newest version of the Steam Client.

This hotfix should avoid the issue for now w/ only the small side-effect of the 1st frame rendered onto web tab cabinet being weird. If the next version of the Steam Client doesn't fix the root cause of the issue - I'll add in some code to fix this side-effect as well.

Party on, y'all!

Change Log
 • Patched a bug where the Steamworks web browser was misbehaving during the rendering of the 1st frame of a new web tab sometimes. (By skipping the rendering of the 1st frame.)

Avatar Menu & Spin The Wheel

Greetings arcaders! Today's update adds an easier way to pick the avatar you want, the ability to randomly choose a media item, and several bug fixes.

Avatar Menu

The new Avatar Menu makes previewing & changing into your favorite avatar models easier.
This is a feature for the more advanced users - because in order to use it, you must first build a favorites list of models that work as your avatar.

Next, go to the Commands Tab (F7) and use the Avatar Menu command. That will open up the Avatar Menu & show a random selection of avatars from your specified favorites list.

It's important to only have avatar models on the favorites list that you use, so you don't turn yourself into a burger or something. :)

Also, remember it's a random selection of models from the list each time. So if you have a long list, you won't see *all* of the models *every* time. But you can just close the menu & re-open it to get a new random selection.

Wheel Spin

Sometimes you know what you want to play is right in front of you, but you can't decide which one to launch. The Wheel Spin command helps for this type of situation.

To use the command, go to the Commands Tab (F7) and scroll all the way down to Wheel Spin.

It will attempted to grab the items that are in front of you & put them onto a wheel, then seelect the one it lands on.

Remember that you can bind your favorite commands to your Action Bar (0-9 on your keyboard) using the F7 menu as well.

Bug Fixes

Two noteworthy bug fixes in today's build are (1) a bug related to Always Animating Images that could cause some unrelated cabinet screens in the arcade to be zoomed in, and (2) TheMovieDb.org wizard is now fixed for spawning movies!

Also note that currently some users who are opted into the Steam Beta are experiencing crash issues on webtabs. If you are in the Steam Beta & are experiencing such issues, opting out seems to fix it.

Always Animating Images - Client Update 10/12/2020

Good morning arcaders! Today's update adds the ability to spawn always-animated images such as GIFs, WEBPs, and PNGs!

Just in time to spice up your Halloween builds with some spooky GIFs.

To mark an image as Always Animated, just look at its object and press the Always Animating Image button on the Commands tab!

This feature is still in phase 1, so it has a few bugs still, but is very usable & stable. If your GIFs start acting nuts, hold down TAB and close the Always Animating Images task. It will auto-reload the GIFs. The other limitation is that always animating images do not sync in Multiplayer yet. These will be improved in the future!

Happy Halloween everybody & have a great time! You are invited to join us in the Discord if you have questions or just want to show off something you've built. :) https://discord.gg/9FSCDuJ
Change Log
• Added Always Animating Image to the commands tab. This lets you have animated GIFs, animated WEBPs, or animated PNGs that always play & don't lag you down. Alpha channels are also supported on Always Animating Images.
 • Added support for dragging & dropping local files directly into item fields.
 • Improved Steam Game Import to allow you to use your Recent Games list instead of just your All Games list.

Quest & Dialogue Builder - Client Update 8/18/2020

Today's update introduces the new quest system! You can now build RPG-style quests complete with branching dialogues! This means your builds can tell a story in an interactive way & guide players around your worlds. This first phase of the quest system includes the EZ Quest Builder. It lets you create "Collect Coins" or "Gossip" quests quickly & easily.
EZ Gossip Quests
Gossip quests are the most versatile. When the player interacts with your quest object, they are given an interactive dialogue. Gossip quests can be used for talking to characters, interacting with terminals, or simply to provide commentary or inner monologue to the players.
EZ Collect CoinsQuests
Collect Coins quests are exactly as you'd expect. Spawn a bunch of **any** model you want the player to collect. Then middle-click on any 1 of them, go to Advanced > Quest and choose the Collect Coins template.
Interactive Dialogue System
All quests support the new interactive dialogue system. These dialogues are easy to create. The top line is what starts off the dialogue. Lines that are tabbed in once are responses that the player can choose. Lines that are tabbed in twice are the next branch of dialogue that follows that choice. Nested dialogue branches, as well as jumping back up the dialogue tree, are also supported.
Quest Tracker Tab
The Quest Tracker lets you see what quests are available in the world you are at, track your progress, and gives you hints on achieving the objectives. Hold down TAB and click on the Quests tab to access it.
Quest Improvements To Come
This is Phase 1 of the quest system. It will be a little rough around the edges, but is already a lot of fun to play around with.

Quests are singleplayer mode only right now, but the quests you build now will work in MP in a future update too. If you have feedback on what the quest system needs, have questions about how it works, or just want to see what others are doing with it, feel free to join us in our Discord and talk about it. You are invited. https://discord.gg/xtPSqy8
ResponsiveVoice TTS
The final component in today's update is some experimental TTS support to go along with the text-based quest dialogues. Powered by ResponsiveVoice TTS ( https://responsivevoice.org/ ), the TTS voices can read the text from the quest dialogue prompts. The text-to-speech is only loosely integrated for now to give users a chance to try it out & provide feedback. Love it? Hate it? Think it needs adjustments? You are welcome to join the Discord and provide feedback directly to me - the programmer of Anarchy Arcade.
New Textures For Map Builders
This update also adds a collection of new materials for all you Hammer users out there who build addon maps - mostly audio-responsive - into the materials/sm_arcade folder.

That's all the update news for now! Enjoy your time in the metaverse & party on, dudes!

 • Improved AArcade's ability to detect when a URL is to an image.
NOTE
At 11:30AM PST I pushed a hotfix so that the new image viewer improvements are included - they allow the image viewer to work even on URLs that don't have any file extension in them.
