Dawnsbury Days 2.33

This bugfix patch fixes the most critical crash bugs and progression-breaking bugs that were discovered yesterday.

  • Encounters (S1E5): Fixed that the rules engine would crash if a Lantern Archon took persistent damage.
  • Encounters (S2E5): Fixed that you didn't lose the game if Morning Dewdrop dies during this level, which caused the game to crash during the closing cutscene.
  • Story mode: Fixed a progression-breaking bug where retraining your character in Dawnsbury, then saving and reloading while your character was incomplete could eject you back into level up which you could not complete.
  • System: Added the list of loaded Steam Workshop mods to the telemetry information that the game sends home if telemetry is allowed, in the hope that this will help debug crashes.

Dawnsbury Days is now released!

We're finally here! Dawnsbury Days has just been released. It contains the following features:

  • A complex OGL-based rule system which makes for strong strategic gameplay
  • 12 classes, from the Fighter to the Wizard to the Kineticist, each with different play patterns
  • 110+ feats and 70+ spells to further customize your characters
  • 20+ encounters in the main story-driven adventure path, and 10+ additional scenarios in free encounter mode
  • Character level cap is 4.
  • A story of childhood friends braving their first serious challenges in adventuring
  • Support for custom maps, encounters and portraits
  • Support for custom mods to add new ancestries, feats, rules and more

Let me show you some screenshots!

First, this is what the main battle screen looks like in the final version:

The second most important part of the game is the advanced character builder that lets you build a variety of characters (I'll repeat: 12 classes, 110+ feats, 70+ spells):

There is also a very large number of items — weapons, armor, consumables and other useful things you can take with you on the adventure:

Of course, the main mode is the Story mode which contains an extended campaign that takes you from level 1 to level 4:

And finally, the game supports modding. Already 17 (!) mods are available from the Steam Workshop, including, for example, DawnniExpanded, which adds an additional class, 35+ additional feats, 7 additional spells, dozens of new items and more:

If you were following the development of Dawnsbury Days over the past year, thank you very much for your support and interest! If you're here for the first time, welcome and thank you for reading this post! You can learn more about Dawnsbury Days on its Steam Store page:

Dawnsbury Days 2.32

  • Fixed a crash bug where the game would crash if an animal companion recovered from dying due to a successful recovery check but then immediately took persistent damage.

Dawnsbury Days 2.30 [release candidate]

This is a release candidate. If no new critical issues are discovered in the next two days, then this will be the build at release date.

Here's the patch notes for the last few updates:

Dawnsbury Days 2.30 [gold] [release candidate]
  • Spells (Angelic Halo): Angelic Halo no longer crashes the game when healing at end of combat.

Dawnsbury Days 2.29
  • Spells (Summon Animal, Summon Elemental): The spell descriptions didn't describe how the spells work.
  • Free encounter mode: When editing the inventory at level 1, the shop and inventory now understand your proficiencies as they were at level 1 instead of the max level of your character. However, it would be too tricky to make this work for the overall shop and equipment screen in free encounter mode, so that won't be done before the release.
  • Story mode: When you retrain or import a character in story mode, the shop view will update to take new proficiencies into account.
  • Story mode: If a character becomes illegal during a medium rest or a long rest, e.g. because you installed or uninstalled mods, the Retraining option will now appear to allow you to fix that character sheet according to the new rules.
  • User interface: The scrollbar now works correctly for resolutions other than 2560x1440.

Dawnsbury Days 2.28
  • Architecture: Updated general.log time to UTC time.
  • Classes (Barbarian): Wounded rage only triggered when you were already in rage, not when you could enter rage.
  • Classes (Wizard): Drain Bonded Item should not be available even if you have no actions left
  • Classes (Kineticist): You can invoke Hardwood Armor and Metal Carapace multiple times, and even an extra flyout is displayed.
  • Spells (Boneshaker etc.): Multiple action spells don't have the Manipulate trait.
  • Story mode: Move "Load game" slightly down if there are modded adventure paths
  • Monsters (Monitor Lizard): This monster no longer speaks Common.
  • Classes (Magus): Thunderous Strike does not make a Strike if you have an additional unarmed attack or are adjacent to two or more enemies.

Dawnsbury Days 2.27 [feature freeze]

Bugfixes
  • Character builder: The Draconic Bloodline give you the cantrip Shield and somehow it lets you select it again having a repeated Cantrip during Combat
  • User interface: Feat name may overflow and hit the level number
  • User interface: Sorcerer spell selection feat box may overflow and hit the caption
  • User interface: Action icons, spell icons and some other icons displayed slightly skewed horizontally by 4 pixels.
  • User interface: When Quickened, the bottom action transforms into a "diamond" after use instead of remaining with the Haste symbol
  • User interface: Would be more clear to add in the combat log spell disrupted, not only in the hover/overlay text
  • User interface: Additional unarmed Strikes collapse if there's multiple of them.
  • User interface: Simplified the version number in the main menu

Text improvements

  • Text: Encounter group 3 ever so slightly doesn't fit the box
  • Text: Tutorial restrictions on Anna have a double dot.
  • Text: The Elf and Human ancestries refer to the "Long Night" instead of "Time of the Broken Sun"
  • Text: Some feat names are too long and don't fix editor boxes
  • Text: The em-dash should be used instead of "--" everywhere
  • Text: Bloodline should use blue text for spells and overall appears cluttered
  • Text: Bloodline should use bullet points.

  • Text: Stabilize should be a Basic action
  • Text: Made a spellcheck and grammar check.
