Grand Theft Auto units sales exceed 370 million, GTA 5 sales exceed 160 million units

The Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to be a lucrative property for Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive.

According to the company's Q3 2022 financial report, the series has now moved over 370 million copies worldwide, which is up 15 million from the last reported figure.

The company said that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was one of the contributing factors leading to the better than expected quarter, and while sales of the title weren't provided, it is estimated the offering has moved millions of copies, if not 10 million.

Next-gen release of GTA 5 coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S March 15

Rockstar has announced it will bring the next-gen version of GTA 5 and GTA Online to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15.

Originally slated to arrive in November 2021, in September of last year, the studio announced it had moved the next-gen release into March but a date was not provided until today.

If you pick up the next-gen version, you can expect new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, and platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and more.

GTA Online is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S March 15

Ring the alarm, we’ve got news regarding GTA Online for next gen consoles! This time around, it comes in the form of a short but sweet community blog post and covers a vast range of updates due in the future. For GTA Online players, the most exciting of which is the news that PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are set to release March 15.

This third generation revival for the title will come packaged with shiny new graphics, up to 4K resolution, 60 FPS, improvements to textures and draw distance, HDR options, Ray Tracing, and a selection of technical improvements that will speed up loading times and more.

In regards to gameplay, the good news keeps coming. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will be able to skip the GTAV story prologue in its entirety - instead learning the ropes through a new and improved GTA Online tutorial.

Work on a new Grand Theft Auto "is well underway", Rockstar say

Eight years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games have finally confirmed yes, they really are making a new GTA. For eight years they've focused on adding new content to the MMO-y GTA Online mode, which seems a licence to print money by selling in-game cash for real cash. This has made some fans ornery, wondering if they'll just keep on plugging away at GTAO forever, especially with GTAV coming to next-gen consoles this year. But no, really, Rockstar say they really have been making a new one.
