Take-Two plans to launch two new "immersive core" franchises by March 31

Take-Two - the parent company behind 2K, Rockstar, and Private Division - has released its latest financial earnings report, and with it an update to the list of titles the company has in production. In fiscal year 2022, which ends on March 31, 2021, Take-Two will launch four new "immersive core" games, and half of them will be from new franchises.

"In fiscal 2022, we plan to deliver an exciting array of offerings, including four immersive core releases, of which two will be from new franchises," CEO Strauss Zelnick says in a press release. Take-Two typically includes sports titles in its 'immersive core' label, so it's likely the two existing franchises are WWE 2K and NBA 2K.

That leaves us wondering what the new franchises launched this year will be, and there's not much of a clue just yet. While "new franchise" suggests new IP, it's possible that these will be licensed games, which would still be a new franchise to 2K. The one thing we know for sure is that none of these four 'immersive core' games will be free-to-play.

GTA Online and Red Dead Online are getting new races this month

Boy howdy, Rockstar Games' dynamic duo GTA Online and Red Dead Online are getting new races for you to enjoy this month. The developer teased what's coming over the summer months on its newswire for both games, but gave more specific updates on what GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 are getting this month.

GTA Online is getting eight new stunt races on May 27 and seven new arenas for the Deadline mode shortly after that. Survival mode is also getting new locations throughout Los Santos and Blaine County. Rockstar didn't give away too much on the game's summer update, but it looks like it'll be themed around underground racing.

"Expect high stakes and high action as crews hit the streets to get hold of the latest vehicles on the hot list, challenge each other in new race types, or take part in a series of multi-part robbery missions, where a precisely modified getaway vehicle will be your best weapon," Rockstar says. "All later this summer."

GTA Online players gather on NoPixel for in-game memorial to fellow roleplayer

A large group of Grand Theft Auto 5 roleplayers gathered at the tail end of the weekend to hold a memorial service for a fellow player who tragically passed away after a battle with cancer. The service lasted for one hour on one of Los Santos' beaches and consisted of various players coming forward to pay their respects and share memories.

A variety streamer, DovahPug is described as someone who "got her hands dirty, made friends, enemies, frenemies, and would always find a moment to ask how you were doing". She roleplayed Misty Mocha, who was "tough, determined, mellow, and brave". Fellow roleplayer RevRoach confirmed news of her passing earlier this month, sharing the following message from DovahPug:

" just want to let you know I really enjoyed the time we have spent together and all the memories we made. The past few months roleplaying with you have been the absolute best time of my life, and the only regret I have is not discovering NoPixel and the RP community sooner. If there is an afterlife, I hope to meet you again!"

Intel AI makes GTA 5 look photorealistic but not better

Yesterday saw the release of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, a remaster which used AI to upscale many of the original game's textures so they look better at 4K.

That's nothing compared to what Intel are working on, however. In a video called "Enhancing Photorealism Enhancement," embedded below, Intel show Grand Theft Auto 5 after it has been run through a neural net to make the streets of Los Santos look more photorealistic. It works.

GTA Online's weekly update boosts rewards on Business Battles and Target Assault races

GTA Online's weekly update has been and gone, but we're still awaiting the official rundown from Rockstar Games, which should be on the Newswire later on. Rather than wait, though, heaps of players are dipping into Los Santos to see what's new for themselves.

This week we're getting triple rewards on Target Assault races. If you haven't tried them out before, they offer a cooperative style of racing that tasks one player with driving the car and the other with hitting, you guessed it, targets. If you fancy something in free mode, you can get double the usual rewards on Business Battles. These missions task you with stealing different types of cargo to use at a nightclub warehouse. These events are triggered every 15 minutes, though GTA Online sessions need at least three players in them for them to start. You're also getting 50% off all offices and renovations, so it may be a good time to buy in if you haven't already.

Some other bonuses are carrying over, too. We've got the Motor Wars adversary mode from last week that's still paying out triple the usual rewards. That one is a last man standing-type mode where up to four teams duke it out in armoured vehicles.
