GTA 5 tops Twitch after launch of new RP server

The latest update to a GTA Online role-play server pushed Grand Theft Auto 5 to the top of the Twitch charts this week. For a hot minute, the open-world game was being watched on stream by over 400,000 people.

The end of January, a new trailer heralded the release of the NoPixel 3.0 GTA RP server, a GTA Online server designed for role-playing in a makeshift San Andreas. Players can be criminals, cops, regular people just making ends meet, whatever, all existing in this MMORPG game-like ecosystem. The server is made using the FiveM modding framework, and upheld by a dedicated team of volunteers.

The server is open, but you have to apply via the NoPixel website to be cleared for entry, with a waiting time of two to four weeks. This somewhat limited availability has worked out, however, because on Friday, 413,000 viewers were tuning into creators on Twitch playing Grand Theft Auto 5. Part of NoPixel's charm is that it's communal, you watch content creators, then go enter the world yourself, everyone sharing in the experience. The peak it created indicates quite a stir among the playerbase, given that's four times the current amount playing the crime game.

GTA Online's weekly update offers more loot for doing the Cayo Perico heist

Every Thursday GTA Online gets a new set of bonuses and content to keep things interesting. One week the best way to make money might be a particular set of races; another week could be another activity such as cargo trading. Rockstar reveals the GTA Online weekly update changes in full on its newswire later on in the day, but the update goes live before that, so people dip into Los Santos to see what's new.

It looks like this week is going to be a good one for heisting. Players are reporting a 50% increase on the Cayo Perico Heist's main loot and safe cash. Setting up the heist is free, too. If you've not tried the new heist yet, or fancy making some more dosh from it, this week looks like a good time to dip in. It's an excellent week to rob El Rubio, friends.

If you fancy some racing, though, then you can get triple the usual rewards by doing the Issi Classic races. GTA Online has also got a new car, which you may fancy adding to your garage if you feel inclined. It's the Squaddie, and it'll set you back $1,130,000 in-game.

GTA Online weekly update adds extra rewards for Casino Adversary modes, Mobile Operations

It's that time of the week again, Grand Theft Auto Online fans. It's a Thursday, which means the online multiplayer game's fans are digging into its latest weekly update and giving us a glimpse at what's in store ahead of Rockstar Games' newswire post later on. Alongside the usual range of discounts on in-game gear and goodies, there are extra rewards for some of the action-adventure game's Diamond Casino and Gunrunning missions.

As Tez2 has posted on Twitter, this week's update brings triple the in-game cash and RP on GTA Online's Mobile Operations - a variety of missions that involve either taking the helm of or retrieving weaponised vehicles. They were introduced back in the online game's Gunrunning update and are unlocked by completing bunker re-supply missions. Additionally, the update brings double the rewards for the Diamond Casino Adversary modes - the player versus player modes set inside the home of Los Santos' high rollers.

This week's GTA Online podium vehicle is the Grotti Cheetah Classic sports car, and the Cayo Perico Heist's Vetir military truck is now available as of this week's content drop.

GTA Online cheat seller shuts down after "discussions" with Take-Two Interactive

Another one of GTA Online's cheat sellers has been shut down. Luna Cheats explains on its website that the decision was taken following talks with Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive.

"After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, we are immediately ceasing all maintenance, development, and distribution of our cheat menu services," the statement reads. "We will also be donating our proceeds to a charity designated by Take-Two. We apologise for any and all problems our software has caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community."

We checked several third-party sellers, and found that there was no longer any mention of Luna Cheats there, either. While the website is now more or less offline, though, there are still videos online advertising its services. From what we've seen, Luna Cheats' mod menu includes many of the cheats you've likely seen on Reddit. Users could enter god mode, turn invisible, adjust their height, and more. The mod menu also allowed players to grief others by blowing them up, kicking them from the lobby, or launching their vehicle into the sky. Even if you tried to report someone using the mod menu, they could block it and crash your game.

Burnout 3 is getting a remake in GTA 5

If you were a noughties teen, Burnout 3: Takedown likely has a special place in your heart. A Grand Theft Auto 5 player is bringing the classic racing game to a new generation in GTA Online, and they've made a very nostalgic teaser video.

Posted on Reddit, LucasRPDJ's demonstration starts as what seems to be a recreation of Burnout 3's opening cinematic, complete with The F-Ups' 'Lazy Generation', before moving into actual gameplay. The authenticity of the menus, car select, and new song pop-ups is impressive enough, but the driving is remarkably similar, right down to the UI.

That signature chaotic vibe of Burnout is here in force, from the camera angles to the sense of speed. Staying in the mix requires taking down your opponents while maneuvering through traffic, just like Burnout, and all the little details are here, like the onscreen markers that pop up whenever you touch an opponent, and earning boost for being a skilled driver. Being GTA 5, there's plenty of room for outlandish physics, meaning the crashes can be as audacious as ever - keep an eye out for a white sports car doing a cartwheel in the first couple of minutes.
