The sales records for the UK in 2020 are in, and people were enjoying games both new and old. Grand Theft Auto 5 is still selling extremely well, sitting alongside expected hits like Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
The Entertainment Retailers Association has released the videogames charts for 2020, showing the top ten games of the year across Great Britain. FIFA 21 is number one, followed by Black Ops - Cold War in second, and Grand Theft Auto 5 in third. FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare complete the top five. The data includes digital and physical, across all platforms, and seeing FIFA and Call of Duty twice is very much expected. Both the sports games and the FPS games have a wide appeal that attracts huge audiences.
The only surprise is that there's somehow still enough people who don't already own GTA 5 to warrant its place at number three, shifting over a million units. ERA notes this was a massive year for UK videogames sales, the industry crossed over £4 billion in combined revenue for the first time. The lockdown has been a factor, boosting digital and physical sales, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X haven't hurt either.

Franklin Clinton is having a tough time of it. For the past few weeks, GTA 5 players have been taking a scene where he gets roasted by Lamar and chopping and changing it in various ways (thanks, RPS). Regardless of what changes the result is the same: Franklin getting totally mugged off.
At this point, Franklin has been roasted by Optimus Prime, Harry Potter, and a PlayStation 5. The videos typically involve people replacing Lemar's character model with something and then subbing in some dialogue. A personal favourite of mine involves Woody from Toy Story giving Franklin a talking to before crumbling into a heap on the ground after someone yells that Andy is on the way.
Others have done things differently, though! Someone just modded in 99 more Lemars, which gets a bit tricky as far as available space goes but it does mean Franklin gets 99% more roasted. One creative soul even redid the whole thing in Minecraft, whereas someone else gave it the demake treatment - T-poses and all.

The hot meme in Los Santos right now is replacing character models with folks from other games and across pop culture, giving Grand Theft Auto V cutscenes a very weird energy. Folks are focused on the scene where Lamar roasts Franklin, swapping in all sorts of characters and voices for silly effect. But in a video game full of dickheads, the one that most warms the cockles of my heart is Yakuza‘s Kiryu popping up to serenade Franklin with a song. Even in sweary memes, Kiryu is the goodest boy.
Now that 2021 is upon us we're back to getting the GTA Online weekly update on a Thursday - thank goodness. As is tradition, the busy citizens of Los Santos have dipped into the online game to see what's new ahead of Rockstar's newswire post, which usually comes later in the day.
If you've not unlocked the Weevil car yet, you can now purchase it. Previously you could only get it by completing the heists and then finishing up three missions given to you by English Dave. If its name hasn't given it away, the Weevil is based on the Volkswagen Type 1 'Beetle' - so it's a wee tiny thing that's perhaps not suitable for racing.
If you're looking to raise some more funds to purchase your Beetle, Motor Wars modes are dishing out triple rewards alongside air races. You can also get double rewards from hauling air freight cargo. If you're looking for something to spend your hard-earned millions on you'll find 30% off hangers and 40% off the Visione, Cyclone, and Havok.
