GTA Online's next update is the Cayo Perico Heist, out next month

Rockstar Games has revealed that GTA Online's next update is called the Cayo Perico Heist, and it's out December 15, 2020 - not too far away, then! The studio revealed the update on its Newswire, as it so often does.

As Rockstar revealed earlier, this one features a new island and ties into the heist. We now know that it's called Cayo Perico, and it's billed as being "one of the most secure private islands in the entire world". There's also a new approach to heist design that "features the ability to play everything solo or with up to three other players". There will also be new vehicles, tactical weapons, and new social spaces to hang out in - it's not all about robbing folk, you know? There will also be new guest DJs and radio stations with over 100 new songs to boot. Finally, there will also be a "very large, very versatile, and very heavily armed submarine HQ with plenty of other surprises" - I hope it'll be more useful than my yacht.

Teases for GTA Online's next update began ramping up a couple of weeks ago. We first got an in-game text message explaining that the Diamond Casino is still operating despite ongoing construction. You'll notice one of the side entrances is boarded up if you travel there. Far from unusual, but in the following GTA Online weekly update, players noticed a body had washed up on shore next to a briefcase. Rockstar Games then followed that up with a tease that shows plenty of stills of a new island. Looking back, it's cool to see where all the teases were leading.

GTA Online's weekly update brings more teases for what's next

November 19, 2020 Rockstar has released an official teaser which shows off some new locations - oooh!

GTA Online's weekly update typically means buying cars on the cheap and earning more dosh on existing tasks. That's still the case, but recently oddities have been popping up around Los Santos ahead of GTA Online's next update, which is supposed to be coming sometime this year.

Last week, players got an in-game text explaining that the Diamond Casino is undergoing construction work. If you travel there, you'll notice one of the side entrances is boarded up. This week's tease is slightly more unusual, though, and involves a somewhat nude dude laid out on the beach with a wound on the back of his head. There's a briefcase near him, too, but you can't interact with it. He doesn't appear in one place, either, as players have reported finding him at various locations around the west coast of Los Santos. That can be anywhere from Vespucci to the airport.

Rockstar followed this up with a swift clip on Twitter that confirms the man as a John Doe. More interestingly, though, the clip shows several stills of a new location. It's a brief tease, but it shall sustain me for many weeks.

The best GTA 5 mods

Looking for a list of ridiculous GTA 5 mods? No longer just a few cheats and trainers, the modding scene is now rife with crazy additions, useful tweaks, and big transformations.

If you're considering adding a few little non-developer-approved improvements to one of the best open-world games, take your pick from our list of the best available.

A word of caution: many of these mods make use of 'memory hooks' to enable them to tinker with the fundamentals of the game, and if you try to play GTA Online with them installed, you'll be swiftly banned on suspicion of cheating. We recommend keeping a separate installation if you want to switch between GTA Online and a modded GTA V single-player experience frequently - definitely back up your game files before making changes. Alternatively, if you're looking to spice things up in multiplayer, head over to our GTA RP server guide, apply to join a roleplay server as an NPC, and live out your dreams of roaming the streets as a vigilante grandma.

GTA Online's weekly update brings Diamonds back, Casino Heist community challenge

GTA Online's weekly update brings Diamonds back, Casino Heist community challenge

November 12, 2020 Rockstar Games has posted the full details on the GTA Online weekly update

It's that time of the week again, Grand Theft Auto Online fans. The weekly update is upon us, the multiplayer game's community has been busy working out what's to come, and now Rockstar Games' official Newswire post has landed - and there are some glittering goodies in store.

First up, diamonds are back, baby. As spotted by GTA Online fan and dataminer Tez2, diamonds have returned to the open-world game's Casino Heist as loot this week, which means the chance to scoop up some mega rewards for completing it. Plus, there's extra incentive to dive into the heist - according to Tez2's findings, the weekly update also brings a 75% discount on the cost of your Casino Heist setup ("$6,250"). Phwoar.

The reason behind these updates, as Rockstar explains in the Newswire post, is to "help get ready for the upcoming release of the next evolution in Heist gameplay". The studio's launching "a special kind of score", which tasks GTA Online's players with playing any heist finale over the next seven days to "collectively steal GTA$100 billion as a community".
