GTA Online opens The Contract's best missions to everyone

The last big update for GTA Online added The Contract, a new story that had Franklin working with Dr. Dre (as himself) to recover some stolen recordings. But arguably the best stuff in the update was locked behind that VIP contract mission string: Short Trips with Franklin and Lamar. Now, everyone in GTA Online can accept those jobs without completing The Contract.

You can access the missions through the Jobs Menu, and now through February 16, they're worth double the GTA$ and RP they normally award. The story sees Franklin, who's gotten pretty respectable in the time since the GTA V story wrapped up, and his old pal Lamar sees a chance to do the same for himself.

Now running his own cannabis dispensary chain, Lamar enlists Franklin's help to deal with a bunch of the unforeseen headaches that go along with a start-up business. It's a chance for Franklin to get out of the house for a while, so he's game to cruise around with his old buddy for a bit (as long as it doesn't get him in trouble with his wife Tanisha).

GTA Online's weekly update adds Valentine's Day content

It may be reset day in Los Santos, but there's a more important date on the horizon. Next Monday - February 14 - is Valentine's Day, so GTA Online is getting oodles of occasion-specific goodies to make this week's update good and proper. Rockstar Games will have the full rundown on its Newswire later, though the update is already live, so fans are documenting what's new exactly.

You can log in to get a fancy t-shirt, weapon tints, and the Gusenberg Sweeper for free. You've also got an increased chance of seeing the pink diamond as loot in Cayo Perico. You can also earn triple the usual reputation points and in-game cash payout on the Shotgun Wedding deathmatch and 'Till Death Do Us Part adversary mode. If that doesn't send your heart aflutter, you can get triple the usual rewards doing casino story content and missions.

There's plenty here for you car fans, too. Rockstar has added the Baller ST luxury four-door SUV from The Contract update to Legendary Motorsport. You can pick it up for $890,000 in-game bucks or $667,500 if you have something to trade in. The GTA podium vehicle is the BF Club if you're feeling lucky. Meanwhile, the GTA Prize Ride is the Roosevelt - win a street race series for three days straight, and it'll be yours.

Grand Theft Auto units sales exceed 370 million, GTA 5 sales exceed 160 million units

The Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to be a lucrative property for Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive.

According to the company's Q3 2022 financial report, the series has now moved over 370 million copies worldwide, which is up 15 million from the last reported figure.

The company said that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition was one of the contributing factors leading to the better than expected quarter, and while sales of the title weren't provided, it is estimated the offering has moved millions of copies, if not 10 million.

Rockstar has announced it will bring the next-gen version of GTA 5 and GTA Online to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on March 15.

Originally slated to arrive in November 2021, in September of last year, the studio announced it had moved the next-gen release into March but a date was not provided until today.

If you pick up the next-gen version, you can expect new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing, as well as faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, and platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and more.
