GTA Online weekly update adds eight new Stunt Races

Earlier this month we reported that GTA Online would be getting eight new Stunt Races to get stuck into on May 27. Well, if you've looked at the calendar, you'll know that's this very day - and those races have now indeed hit Rockstar's online action-adventure game. While the official rundown hasn't yet been posted to the studio's Newswire just yet, players have been taking a peep at what's new with today's weekly update.

As Tez2 reports on Twitter, the eight new Stunt Races are available to play right now. These are a kind of fact-paced race that involve - yep, you guessed it - performing stunts and tricks around a bunch of different obstacles, like ramps, loop-the-loops, rings of fire, and that kind of thing. There were already more than 40 in the game, and now there are even more to try out.

Elsewhere in the weekly update, the panther statue from the Cayo Perico heist which was at last made lootable last week has now been disabled. But, the good news is there's a new GTA Online podium car as ever, which this week is the flashy Nero Custom hypercar.

Rockstar are launching an actual record label called CircoLoco Records

What are Rockstar launching this week? No, it isn't Grand Theft Auto V on another platform. It's also not another nightclub inside of GTA Online, but that is warmer. Rockstar have actually partnered with club music event hosts CircoLoco to launch CircoLoco Records. Yes, in real life, not in GTA. The label's first compliation record, Monday Dreamin’, releases on July 9th but they've already debuted the first track off the album.

GTA Online's panther statue is finally lootable from the Cayo Perico heist

At long last, you can now nab the panther statue from GTA Online's Cayo Perico heist. Players have been dipping into Los Santos to see what's new in the GTA Online weekly update and lo and behold! There it is, alongside the usual offering of discounts and boosted rewards.

Rockstar Games tipster Tez2 explains that the statue is available as Cayo Perico loot with a one-time guaranteed chance this week. Players have been waiting for this one as it's the most lucrative thing you can get from the heist, fetching a price of GTA $1.73 million on normal and GTA $1.9 million on the hard difficulty. Now that's available, nabbing it should be a breeze. Simply select the panther statue as your heist target, decide on your approach for the Cayo Perico heist, and then jump in and swipe it.

The way this all works is similar to what Rockstar has done with the Diamond Casino heist. The most lucrative thing you can capture from the casino's vault is diamonds, though it's only offered when special events roll around.

GTA 5 speedrunner beats the game in nine hours without taking any damage

Someone has finally managed to speedrun their way through Grand Theft Auto 5 without taking a single hit of damage, racking up an impressive time of around nine hours. The GTA 5 speedrunning community has been competing against each other to nail this one for a few months now, with everyone bringing new ideas to the table.

Players govern this particular run by using a mod that gives them one health point and disables Trevor's special ability, which allows him to take minor damage and inflict more pain on other people. As you can imagine, the ability ruins the integrity of the speedrun a tad as it practically makes Trevor invincible, making it very gameable for the game's more difficult sections.

GTA 5 player UnNameD explains on Reddit that it took them 48 attempts to complete the challenge, though the speedrunner did finish the game eight times. UnNameD's winning run clocked up nine hours in total, so you can only imagine how much time this took overall.

Take-Two plans to launch two new "immersive core" franchises by March 31

Take-Two - the parent company behind 2K, Rockstar, and Private Division - has released its latest financial earnings report, and with it an update to the list of titles the company has in production. In fiscal year 2022, which ends on March 31, 2021, Take-Two will launch four new "immersive core" games, and half of them will be from new franchises.

"In fiscal 2022, we plan to deliver an exciting array of offerings, including four immersive core releases, of which two will be from new franchises," CEO Strauss Zelnick says in a press release. Take-Two typically includes sports titles in its 'immersive core' label, so it's likely the two existing franchises are WWE 2K and NBA 2K.

That leaves us wondering what the new franchises launched this year will be, and there's not much of a clue just yet. While "new franchise" suggests new IP, it's possible that these will be licensed games, which would still be a new franchise to 2K. The one thing we know for sure is that none of these four 'immersive core' games will be free-to-play.
