GTA Online weekly update brings double rewards for survivals

It's Thursday, which means a new raft of discounts and bonuses have come to Los Santos. Rockstar typically reveals this in full later in the day, which it has now done, but the changes happen at reset, so GTA Online players have a mull around and find out what's new for themselves - why wait, you know?

If you're looking to make any extra dosh this week, you'll find that cash and reward prizes are doubled for survival matches. The multiplayer game mode has been around for a while and involves defending yourself or another player from hordes of enemies. It can be played by up to four people, and unlocks after you hit level 15 in GTA Online.

It's also looking like a wonderful week to deck out your Kosatka submarine if you, er, have one. You can get 25% off such features as guided missiles and the sonar station. There are discounts on various vehicles, too, such 40% off the Buzzard, Reaper, and Sea Sparrow. You'll also find that the Coquette D10 is 30% off. Fancy trying your luck at the Diamond Casino's Wheel of Fortune? The GTA 5 podium car is currently the Pegassi Toreador.

GTA 5 actors recreate the Franklin roast in real life

GTA 5 actors recreate the Franklin roast in real life

Grand Theft Auto V has never stopped being popular - seriously, just look at the 2020 sales numbers - and it's still generating fresh memes. Now we're in the era of Lamar roasting Franklin, as modders and video editors keep finding new ways to recreate the scene with increasingly absurd adjustments. Now things have reached their natural conclusion: the actors behind Franklin and Lamar have recreated the scene in real life.

The recreation is everything you could hope for. Slink Johnson as Lamar delivers his lines with all the colorful affectation he had back in 2013, and Solo Fonteno is just as incredulous in live action as in motion capture. They're even dressed in the appropriate outfits, doing the scene on a quiet street in what sure looks like Los Angeles.

The scene was created in partnership with PlayStation Haven, which is working with Slink Johnson on a GTA 5 real-life comparison series. Those videos will see the actor exploring the real-life locations which inspired the fictional city of Los Santos. And hey, if you're already in LA with the actor anyway, why not do the Franklin meme?

Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to sell by the millions

Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to sell by the millions

The sales records for the UK in 2020 are in, and people were enjoying games both new and old. Grand Theft Auto 5 is still selling extremely well, sitting alongside expected hits like Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

The Entertainment Retailers Association has released the videogames charts for 2020, showing the top ten games of the year across Great Britain. FIFA 21 is number one, followed by Black Ops - Cold War in second, and Grand Theft Auto 5 in third. FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare complete the top five. The data includes digital and physical, across all platforms, and seeing FIFA and Call of Duty twice is very much expected. Both the sports games and the FPS games have a wide appeal that attracts huge audiences.

The only surprise is that there's somehow still enough people who don't already own GTA 5 to warrant its place at number three, shifting over a million units. ERA notes this was a massive year for UK videogames sales, the industry crossed over £4 billion in combined revenue for the first time. The lockdown has been a factor, boosting digital and physical sales, and the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X haven't hurt either.

GTA 5's latest craze is roasting Franklin

Franklin Clinton is having a tough time of it. For the past few weeks, GTA 5 players have been taking a scene where he gets roasted by Lamar and chopping and changing it in various ways (thanks, RPS). Regardless of what changes the result is the same: Franklin getting totally mugged off.

At this point, Franklin has been roasted by Optimus Prime, Harry Potter, and a PlayStation 5. The videos typically involve people replacing Lemar's character model with something and then subbing in some dialogue. A personal favourite of mine involves Woody from Toy Story giving Franklin a talking to before crumbling into a heap on the ground after someone yells that Andy is on the way.

Others have done things differently, though! Someone just modded in 99 more Lemars, which gets a bit tricky as far as available space goes but it does mean Franklin gets 99% more roasted. One creative soul even redid the whole thing in Minecraft, whereas someone else gave it the demake treatment - T-poses and all.
