GTA 5 car meets: everything you need to know about the new Los Santos Tuners event

Grand Theft Auto 5 is now eight years old, and during that time, players have built up an impressive collection of cars. From the slick super cars to the drop dead gorgeous classics, GTA 5 players have spent an obscene amount of money on pimping their cars - and they naturally want to show them off.

Introducing GTA 5 car meets. Up until now, car meets in Los Santos have been happening in an unofficial capacity, allowing petrolheads to come together to show off their latest upgrades. However, since these are unofficial events, players have either had to go in passive mode or risk having their entire line up blown up by someone in a Hydra.

But the risk of attending one of these events has been lowered with the GTA Online Summer Event. Rockstar's new update for the game includes the Los Santos Car Meet, giving fans a proper way of channelling their inner Fast and Furious.

Grand Theft Auto V's Twitch viewership is up 227% this year

GTA V was the fourth most watched game on Twitch in 2019 and viewership grew 227% from last year, according to new figures.

Despite GTA V celebrating its sixth birthday this year, it saw a massive explosion in popularity on Twitch that puts it's total viewership behind only League of Legends, Fortnite, and the Just Chatting section. As the report from Stream Elements and Arsenal.gg highlights, GTA V viewership has more than tripled from 2018. This is thanks mainly to streamers using role playing mods in custom 'RP servers' and going around GTA V's incredibly detailed world as their characters while interacting with other role players.

Streamers such as Jaryd 'Summit1g' Lazar and Saqib 'Lirik' Zahid have been some of the big names who have streamed a lot of GTA V content in 2019 and their viewers have contributed towards the total watch time of over 500 million hours. Further stats from SullyGnome show that GTA V has had an average viewership of around 64,000 during the last 12 months across the whole of Twitch.

Hong Kong protesters clash on Grand Theft Auto V

Scenes of the Hong Kong protests are being replicated in real time in Grand Theft Auto V's Los Santos following the addition of riot gear, yellow hard hats, and more.

The cosmetics were added as part of the Diamond Casino Heist update, and the news of the new additions was spread through LIHKG, which is like the Hong Kong version of Reddit. It was then that the violent clashes representing the struggle against Chinese oppression started on the GTAV servers, according to the BBC (via PCGamesN).

The outfit is being dubbed 'Glory to Hong Kong' by its supporters and is being used by thousands of 'Stand With Hong Kong' crew members in game, who are throwing Molotovs at police cars, and damaging public areas such as subway stations. These instances pale in comparison to the current situation in Hong Kong though.
