GTA Online's weekly update adds seven new Survival modes

It's that time of the week, folks. Thursday is reset day in GTA Online, so all your usual favourites are dipping into Los Santos to see if there are any good ways to make dosh or any deals worth snapping up on a new car. Rockstar Games will have an official rundown on its Newswire later, but the updates are already here, so there's no need to wait.

It looks like we're getting some new content this week as players are stumbling across seven new Survival modes. We had some idea this was coming, as Rockstar revealed plans for new races as well as Deadline and Survival modes earlier this year. You'll also find that all Survival modes are offering double the usual rewards to mark introduction of the new maps.

If Survival modes aren't your thing, though, you'll also find that all freemode events are offering triple the usual rewards. You'll need four people in your lobby for these to happen, so make sure you've met the requirement to avoid awkwardly hanging around.

GTA RP's latest mischief maker is Wario

You can be anyone you fancy in GTA Online's roleplaying scene. You can take to the pavements of Los Santos to sniff out the latest scoop as a journalist, or try to keep the peace as a member of the police force. Some people, though, choose to play as more familiar faces. We had a breathtaking rendition of Johnny Silverhand of Cyberpunk 2077 fame earlier in the year (more on that below), but now it's all about Wario.

Content creator Burn has been strolling about the streets of Los Santos in his best Wario outfit, causing all sorts of hassle. Sometimes he socks other roleplayers in the melon, letting out his signature "wah!". Other times, he draws the police into what I can only describe as a mashup of street racing and Mario Kart. It's all silly fun, but it's watching people react that tickles me. Most roleplayers try to stay in character while being pestered by Mario's nemesis, though some do get tired and throw some fists back - while staying in character, naturally.

Burn's Wario has popped up in several places, but you can find a video on his channel that features oodles of shenanigans in one spot. Not only can you see Los Santos' version of Wario charging around, the overall effect feels like a truly authentic Wario experience.

GTA Online's weekly update has heaps of Independence Day goodies

It's Thursday, my dudes, which means it's time for the GTA Online weekly update. The citizens of Los Santos have been mulling around to see what's new ahead of Rockstar's usual Newswire post and have found heaps of Independence Day goodies. It looks like you're getting 50% off America day content such as the Liberator and Sovereign, as well as various weapons and clothes. You've also got face paints, haircuts, and horns if you're really into it.

If you're more into making dosh, there's plenty for you, too. You can find triple the usual rewards on the Stockpile adversary mode, which involves scraping over various briefcases and trying to bring them back to your base. If that doesn't impress you much, you can fetch more rewards for doing the mobile operations series of missions that came with the Gunrunning update.

If you're looking into buying bunkers, it's a good time for that, too. All of them can be purchased and renovated for half of the usual price. You'll also find that the Kosatka and its renovations are 25% off, which is nifty.

This AMD FSR mod makes GTA 5 look super sharp

Despite being released eight years ago, Grand Theft Auto V can still use help with performance. It’s just that sort of game. You can use the in-built upscaler (running the game at a lower resolution than your monitor's native resolution then upscaling to the correct size) to do so, but the image quality definitely suffers from it. Thankfully, a better method has appeared in the form of AMD's DLSS-alike, FidelityFx Super Resolution (or FSR). It's been ported over to GTA V by a fan, and when you compare the two side-by-side AMD’s image quality definitely wins out.
