GTA Online players are getting character wiped for using new money exploit

GTA Online players are reporting that their characters have been completely wiped of progress and money after using a new exploit to rack up a load of in-game currency. From the looks of things, it stems from a recent wave of money resets from Rockstar.

The money cheat was discovered two weeks ago following the launch of the the game's Los Santos Summer Special update. The way it works is simple and proves to be reasonably potent, as it could be done in several minutes. If you already had the most expensive CEO office and slots six and seven available for garages and apartments, all you had to do was buy two specific properties and then load into the creator mode and then launch an invite-only session. Once there, you could go to Dynasty 8 Real Estate on your phone and buy the cheapest properties on slots six and seven. Regardless, though, it has now been patched.

Several players have taken to Reddit and Twitter to share screenshots of messages they've received from Rockstar explaining that their account has been reset due to violating the terms of service. Grand Theft Auto dataminer Tez2 also reports (below) that it's a complete character wipe, too, so all their progress, including money and everything else, is gone.

GTA Online has a secret UFO mission - but only dataminers have played it so far

GTA Online's weekly update gives you more things to do with your pointless yacht

GTA Online has a secret UFO mission - but only dataminers have played it so far

GTA Online now has a secret business battle where you fight your way into the Fort Zancudo military base, invade an air hangar, and collect a load of spaceship parts inside. Yep, this ties into the game's long-standing almost-conspiracies when it comes to alien content, and once again a group of dataminers have figured out how to play the mission well ahead of anybody accessing it for real.

Nobody's quite sure yet if it's even possible to activate the mission yet in-game, but a datamining group called the Game File Gurus has once again activated the mission early - just as the group did with another alien mission in GTA Online back in 2017. As team Guru tells Kotaku, however, this mission was far harder to activate, and they believe Rockstar is working harder to keep this stuff from being triggered by dataminers.

But after the Summer Special update went live earlier this month, it took only a handful of weeks for the Gurus to post a full playthrough of the mission on YouTube, so I guess the secret's not all that safe after all.

GTA Online's weekly update gives you more things to do with your pointless yacht

You'll struggle to find a worse impulse buy in GTA Online than a yacht. At the least, they cost $6 million in-game, and at most they'll set you back $8 million. You also can't drive them; only the captain can do that. Except he won't unless you give him $25,000 to shift that pointless hunk of metal.

Thankfully, Rockstar is giving GTA Online's ultimate symbol of wealth some more purpose this week with a themed weekly update. Called the Galaxy Superyacht Week, you'll be able to get double rewards for completing any of the six missions on offer. If you beat any of them this week, you'll get a free t-shirt if you log-in next week. Something else you can show off to your friends.

Buying or upgrading them will be cheaper, too, as, for the Galaxy Superyacht Week only, all boats are 30% off. Some Helicopters - such as the Nagasaki Buzzard and the Buckingham Akula - have also received a similar discount. Finally, you'll also find that the Imponte Ruiner 2000, HVY APC, and Principe Deveste Eight are also discounted by 30% - so it's not all about taking to the seas.

The best crime games like GTA on PC

What are the best crime games on PC? Videogames are, and have always been, all about fulfilling a fantasy. We step into virtual worlds to fight evil, slay monsters, grab sweet loot, or go to war online. They're a chance to do something we wouldn't usually do - and that includes crime games.

With that in mind, games that focus on crime are popular for that very reason - they're (hopefully) not something you'd attempt in real life. Ever since RPG game Grand Theft Auto challenged players to earn as many Wanted stars as possible, gamers have been pushing the limits of reckless behaviour and general naughtiness.

With that in mind, we've put together our list of the best crime games like GTA you can play - and we reckon at least one of them is sure to make you an offer you can't refuse. Between modern-day crime epics, online heists, fisticuffs in faraway places, and a trip back in time to criminal empires of yesteryear, we've got a little something for everyone.

Grand Theft Auto radio host Lazlow has left Rockstar after 19 years

Rockstar veteran Lazlow Jones has parted ways with the Grand Theft Auto developer after a 19-year stay with the company. While Jones served as a writer, director, and producer during his tenure, he became better known for popping up in-game. Jones started as the radio host for GTA 3's Chatterbox FM and finished up in Grand Theft Auto V as the host of a talent show called Fame or Shame. He also helped out with other Rockstar titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2.

Jones hinted at the departure in an Instagram post where he explains that being the primary caregiver for his sister had become "radically difficult" due to the pandemic. As pointed out by GTAMen, however, if you check Jones' Linkedin, you'll see confirmation that he stopped working at Rockstar in April 2020, and has future projects planned in games and TV.

"I am currently working on several projects," he writes on Linkedin, "including development of shows for Disney and Netflix, consulting for a video game company and collaborating with a writer/director from Comedy Central and an Emmy winning producer and director formerly of Dreamworks."
