GTA Online's GTA+ membership lets you pay $6 for new microtransactions

Rockstar Games has only just released GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but now you will be able to subscribe to a subscription service that features a bunch of questionable benefits. GTA+ is the name of the service and it includes more microtransactions for you to buy, old content, and a fair bit more.

Costing $5.99 a month (roughly £4.55) the service offers up $500,000 of cash every 30 days, old properties from previous gameplay updates for you to buy, cash and RP bonuses, exclusive discounts and special vehicle upgrades. The service kicks off on March 29, 2022.

While all of this might seem fairly uneventful, GTA+ members will also get access to exclusive microtransactions. Yes, you read that right. Members will get exclusive GTA+ Shark Cards which they can then purchase for real money in the Microsoft Store or PlayStation Store. No, you don't get them for free, you have to pay for them. They simply just have better bonus cash .

PC fans are safe from GTA Online's new subscription scheme

Rockstar has announced GTA Plus, a new subscription service for GTA Online players that'll provide a monthly bonus of in-game cash, "exclusive rewards", and other perks. GTA Plus launches on March 29, and will be exclusive to the recently launched Expanded and Enhanced versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. That means players on PC and last gen consoles are left out of the 'opportunity' to participate in a new monetisation scheme.

GTA Plus costs $5.99 USD per month, and will provide members with a monthly bonus of $500,000 in in-game money. As the devs explain in the announcement, other bonuses include "the opportunity to claim properties in and around Los Santos that unlock gameplay updates you may have missed out on, special vehicle upgrades, member-only discounts, GTA$ and RP bonuses, and more each month."

The first GTA Plus month will run from March 29 through April 27, and you can see its rewards below. Rockstar says it will provide further details on upcoming subscription perks through its official site.

GTA Online weekly update leaves fans underwhelmed

It's Thursday, folks, and that means it's time for GTA Online's weekly update. We didn't get one last week as GTA V's Expanded & Enhanced version released. Regular service has resumed, though, so fans are jumping into Los Santos to see what's new before Rockstar Games posts the official rundown on the Newswire later today.

There are a few things to check out, though it looks like slim pickings this week. The GTA podium vehicle is the Torero, while the GTA prize ride is the Sentinel XS, which you earn by finishing in the top five of two pursuit races. If you're looking for more dosh, Rockstar is doubling the rewards for the Double Down adversary mode and Martin Madrazo contract missions for the next week. Tipster Tez2 also reports that console players can test ride the Cyclone 2 or get double the experience points and in-game cash on HSW races.

Tez2 also notes that "odd changes" are likely to be reversed soon. The nightclub safe's capacity is back to 250k on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though it remains at 210k on PS5 and Xbox Series S. The max payout on specialist contacts is now 75k on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but still 70k elsewhere. The West Coast Classics and Radio Los Santos stations are also only playing new songs on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
