Work on a new Grand Theft Auto "is well underway", Rockstar say

Eight years after the launch of Grand Theft Auto V, Rockstar Games have finally confirmed yes, they really are making a new GTA. For eight years they've focused on adding new content to the MMO-y GTA Online mode, which seems a licence to print money by selling in-game cash for real cash. This has made some fans ornery, wondering if they'll just keep on plugging away at GTAO forever, especially with GTAV coming to next-gen consoles this year. But no, really, Rockstar say they really have been making a new one.

A new GTA game is "well underway", Rockstar confirms

Rockstar Games has confirmed that the "next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway". While the news is surely unsurprising given both the series' longevity so far and the astonishing success of 2013's Grand Theft Auto V - which, as of November 2021, has sold 155 million copies - it does mean we now have official confirmation that the next GTA is in the works, whatever it might be.

"With the unprecedented longevity of GTA V, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series," Rockstar says in a new Newswire post. "With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered - and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway."

While there are no details beyond this on what the game is, exactly, the studio adds that it looks forward to "sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details".

GTA Online's weekly update adds a new Contract motorcycle

Weekly reset day has arrived in GTA Online. Every Thursday, Rockstar Games updates the online game with new goodies, discounts, and challenges. The official rundown will appear on the Newswire later in the day, though the content refresh is already live. As such, GTA Online players have been mulling around to see what's new.

We're still getting a steady rollout of new vehicles from The Contract update, and this week is no different. The Western Reever motorcycle is now available at Legendary Motorsport for $1,900,000 in-game bucks. If you're into your vehicles, the bike looks a tad like the Arch Method 143. The Western Reever has appeared in The Contract's story quests, so you'll likely find it familiar looking.

That's not all that's happening this week, either. The GTA podium vehicle is the Infernus Classic, whereas the GTA Prize Ride is the Comet S2, which you can get for placing first in pursuit races for three days in a row. If you're looking to raise some extra funds this week, you can get double the in-game cash and experience on Transform races, Turner contracts, and the Sumo adversary mode.
