Programancer Dev Log #3

We’re back this week to share a third set of insights from the TASQ lead developer, Programancer!
When can folks expect to get their hands on TASQ?
Programancer: Depends on IF THEY WISHLIST IT.
Were there any mechanics you wanted to include in Prison City/TASQ but couldn't find room for them?
Programancer: That's kind of hard to answer, because Prison City was born out of a want to work on a project made of things I couldn't do in TASQ, and TASQ is also something that Prison City couldn't be. They're basically the inverse of one another!
Can players expect to find any secrets or easter eggs in TASQ like in your previous work?
Programancer: Almost the entirety of TASQ is a miserable little pile of secrets! But if you want to find them all, have at you!
What are some goals that you envision for TASQ?
Programancer: I definitely want a memorable world with lots of options. There are so many inventory items in TASQ that are optional. Don't want a knife? Get the tomahawk. Don't want the axe? How about a HAMMER? Whips not your thing? How about pugilism?

Also just guiding the player along a path to the end naturally and organically, but letting players 'sequence break' if they're skilled into other areas is a very important thing to me. I want players to know they don't have to do anything in any order- if they want to go to the 5th mansion, they can absolutely get the prerequisites to do so instead of going to the first mansion. It's a very big game, and I want people to have different experiences they can share with other players.

Monsters Lurking at Night!

From zombies running around and goblins hopping everywhere, you’ll find there’s plenty to look forward to (and come across unexpectedly) within TASQ’s unique day and night cycle.
Zombies of Bram!
What else could set the tone for the first town you’ll enter than to have it be plagued with zombies at night? You can use your whip to destroy their degraded bodies!

Also in Bram, if you hang out just before the night arrives, you’ll see civilians running inside their homes and doors slamming shut! Don’t want any zombies breaking in to eat your brain? Shut the damn door!
Bela Goblins!
In the evening hours, the town of Bela will become overrun with goblins! This annoyingly boisterous lot will hop all over the place as they try to attack you, so be sure to WHIP them all into bloody pieces!

And you’ll want to stick around other places on your Transylvania adventure until nighttime to see what bizarre phenomena may occur!

Yes, You Can Pet the Dogs!

It’s important to remain stress-free when being a vampire hunter! That’s why you’ll be able to find several dogs at certain locations to give a few pets! Surely, you won’t change your main objective to finding ALL the dogs…right?

And after you pet each dog, they’ll follow you for a short bit! Now, if only you could take them with you on your whole journey…

Collecting ALL the Hearts!
Hearts = AMMO?!
Yes. Yes, they do. For throwables, at least.

You’ll need as many hearts as you can collect if you wanna use your Subweapons! The more hearts you gather, the more you can throw your Subweapon!

Even if you may THINK you have more than enough, it certainly wouldn’t hurt to whiplash every candle or flame you come across to gain those extra throwables!

Inventory Item Types

No expert vampire hunter would ever be caught DEAD without a well-stocked inventory! Here’s an overview on the types of items you’ll find and use on your journey!
Weapon
Self-explanatory. Simon prefers using a whip as his primary weapon over any other. Throughout your journey, you’ll be able to change the look and abilities of your trusty whip–such as turning it into a thorny vine or having it burn with fire!
Subweapon
These are weapons you can throw. Toss a dagger or an ax at enemies to deal damage at a distance!
Utility Item
These are general items that can be used by switching to their respective icon and pressing the Use Subweapon button. Running low on health? Take a Potion!
Equipment
These items provide passive effects for Simon, like torches illuminating dark spaces, or having his all-purpose bandana equipped to perform flips and dash kicks!
