Brewmaster code #3 - Selling your beer

Good day, Your Maltiness! While diving into the art of brewing is a noble pursuit, remember that you also have an abbey to fund and local interests to satisfy. To truly profit from your skills, you'll need to sell your grog—and that's what we'll be covering today!

Today’s Topic - Selling Your Beer
SELLING YOUR BEER

You've just completed the brewing of your beer, and now it's time to decide what to do with your stock. You have a few options: you can keep some for yourself, enhance its quality by aging it under specific conditions, or, as we'll focus on today, sell it!

On the right, you'll see a map displaying all the towns where you can sell your beer to the local communities.
The towns

As you progress on your journey, you'll have the opportunity to sell your beer to various towns. Each town has its own specific demands and price expectation for your ale, and they might not appreciate being charged too much. The longer you continue selling beer at a fair price to a particular village, the more your reputation will grow, eventually allowing you to command higher prices.

For example, the charming town of Hopfendorf has a special fondness for light ale, making it an ideal place to sell your first beverages!
The orders

While you're selling your beers in regular markets, you'll also receive special orders from time to time. These orders may call for specific ingredients, so be prepared to craft custom brews for your local lord and townsfolk!

Fulfilling orders for the lords will enhance your reputation beyond your immediate neighborhood, opening up new towns where you can expand your market and sell your creations!

With all these steps completed, you've successfully navigated the journey of beer creation in the Abbey! But remember, there's still much more to manage on your own...

We'll see you in two weeks for your next lesson! If you have any question regarding what has been taught during those first guides, feel free to ask us in the comments, we’ll be sure to answer your questions!

Brewmaster code #2 - Crafting your first beer

Good day, your maltiness! Running your abbey is a lot of work, but another aspect of your community is beer! Your monks and nuns will have to earn their keep by mastering the art of brewing. Here’s some indications you might need

Today’s topic - Crafting your first beer
To the brewery we go

Before you get started, you'll need to set up the aptly named Brewery. This is where your workforce will use the recipes you've created to make beer thanks to the stove and fermenter.

 • The stove will cook your ingredients and brew the mash.
 • The fermenter will turn the liquid into the beer you want!

Now that you have the necessary tools your monks and nuns can start using the recipes you’ve created to brew beer!
In the process we trust

There are many production steps involved in making your beer, and we'll go through them with you.

Some exemple of the early menu
Select a recipe
Here you will find all the recipes you have made during your monastic journey. Let's take the one we made in the last guide.

This menu gives you all the information about the recipe, including the ingredients, type of beer you'll be using and the minimum and maximum quality it can reach. It serves as a reminder for everything you prepared during the elaboration of the recipe.
Select a brewer
A beer is only as good as the brewer.
By choosing the right monk, you can guarantee a certain quality for your brew. Some are better at using the equipment than others. Be careful, just because someone is good doesn't mean your beer won’t get infected in the process.
Choose the quantity
At the beginning you’ll only be able to make up to 100 litres per batch. The more you make, the more ingredients you'll need, and the more expensive it will be. Only invest if you're sure you can make a profit!
Handling the ingredients
Treating your ingredients with a certain process, such as storing them for some time or other, will have different effects on your brew, but this is a subject for the veteran brewmasters, we may discuss this point again at a later date…
judge the Result

You’ve successfully made your first beer your maltiness! You’ll now be able to see if you’ve succeeded, contemplate your creation and appreciate its quality. You will also have the confirmation if your beer is infected or not, but I’m sure it won’t happen to you..

Brewmaster code #1 - Ale and recipes

Congratulations, Your Maltiness! You are now on the brink of managing your own abbey, and it will be your responsibility to ensure that this monastery excels in beer brewing, both in quantity and quality.

To help you navigate this journey, we've prepared some guides to help you master the craft!
Today’s topic - Making your own recipes
A clean recipe in a clean room

To master the art of brewing ale, the first step is to create your own recipes. For this, you'll need to utilize the library—a room dedicated to knowledge and its effective use. In this space, the monks and nuns you assign will be able to develop new beer recipes for you to craft. Simply send a monk to the desk, and embark on the journey to brew the ale of your choice!

Work diligently but wisely, lest you discover the ground makes a poor pillow.
Recipe-crafting

Once a monk/nun is working on a recipe, you can select the style you desire—whether it's light, blonde, or old ale—and choose your ingredients. You'll have access to a wide variety of ingredients. Combining unique elements with essential ones will impact the qualities and virtues of your brew!

Perfect the recipe, for each tweak can lead to a new and exciting taste adventure.

The ingredients influence the beer on 4 different virtues:
 • Taste
 • Colour
 • Strength
 • Foam
Each style has a base in each of the virtue to reach, but you are free to experiment in preparation of specific orders. Don't mess the order of a foamous lord!
Taste and stats

The final aspect to consider is the statistics. Although less important than taste, they are still useful to know. The number of ingredients and the specific monk/nun assigned to craft the recipe will affect various factors. These include the creation cost, shelf life, and development time of the beer. Paying attention to these details will help you achieve optimal production.

Once all these steps are completed, the last thing to do is to name your recipes. Make sure to choose a name that is both catchy and memorable!

  1. Choose a style
2. Take the ingredients

3. Assign the monk
4. Name your creation!
The recipe is ready!

Once your recipe is ready, you'll be able to send your monks/nuns to brew as many batches as needed. However, we will cover this in a later section of this guide...

Frequently Asked Questions 📢

Hello everyone!

Emiliano, our game director, along with Yannis and Steven (that's me), the community managers, hosted a Q&A on our Discord last week. Inspired by the questions from that session, we want to share some key points that we feel are important for a larger audience.

Happy reading!
What is the story behind Ale Abbey?

The game originated from Emiliano's passion for brewing and tycoon games. Although he has been working in the industry for a while, he had never had the opportunity to develop a tycoon game until now. Venturing into managing a brewery felt like a natural progression. Our Game Director has read extensively about beer crafting, and it was during this research that he stumbled upon trappist abbeys. The traditions and history behind these monastic ales captivated him. This and the fact monastery beers are some of his favourites.
What’s my goal as a player?

You will begin your journey with a humble abbey and the ambition of growing larger and more prosperous. To achieve this, you'll create unique recipes and sell your freshly made beverages to nearby villages.

As you advance, it is essential to continually evolve your brewing practices, as brewing is not a practice set in stone. By allowing your monks to conduct research, you'll unlock new tools, ingredients, and rooms, thereby enriching your monastic life.
What divine drinks can I concoct?

There are over 20 European styles of beer in the game at the moment, ranging from blond ale to Bohemian pilsner. For each of these styles, you'll be able to craft unique recipes by selecting your desired ingredients. You can also tweak these to gain specific bonuses—or risk getting your beer infected!
Different towns have varying preferences for beer types; not everyone enjoys the same brews. By catering to local tastes and fulfilling special orders during events, you'll be able to earn more florins.
What’s up with the monks?

The monks under your charge are essential for producing the best beers. Each monk has unique stats that will get better over time with training and experience. However, be mindful of their individual needs and desires; providing a bed and a beer is a good start to keep them content.
Will I be able to play a demo?

After two years of development, the game is in a good state and we’ll absolutely do a demo later this year. In the meantime, we are also considering the option of conducting some playtests beforehand.
