v1.1 The Remix Update

The Remix Update Has Landed

Howdy Beeflandians,

This is a major update that touches every corner of Beef Cat Ultra, adding loads of new content and improving the content that was already there. The Remix Update will kick off a series of much smaller follow-up updates adding new upgrades and items over time to keep the RNG gods of Remix Island pleased. Let's kick off with the main event:
Added Remix Island
• Added Dock and Ship to Stinky Coast
 • Added Blockerboy to Stinky Coast to lock Remix Island until Game Completion
 • Added 4 new stages with new mode "Remix"
 • --Randomized starting location, pickup locations, and enemy spawn locations
 • --Objective to Kill 5,000 enemies
 • --Difficulty Tier increases every 5 minutes, increasing enemy health and speed
 • Added 7 new level up options in Remix mode
 • --4 New Weapon Level Up Options
 • --2 New Survival Level Up Options
 • --1 New Bonus Level Up Options
 • Added 4 new pickups in Remix mode loot pools
 • New Shop: Great Reset - Resets all stat purchases at shops to ZERO and does not refund their costs
 • New Shop: Remix Difficulty - Increases the base Difficulty Tier of Remix Mode by 1
 • New Weapon: Uppercut - a vertical attack that deals high damage, upgrades increase range
 • New Weapon: Gross Grass - builds in the environment, has a %chance to spawn a tick, upgrades increase tick spawn chance
 • New Weapon: Bomb Flower - builds in the environment, trigger to set off an explosion, upgrades reduce planting cooldown
 • New Passive: Parry Pants - a successful dodge drops a grenade at your feet, upgrades drop more grenades

Above is very nearly everything new in Beef Cat Ultra as of today. No bug fixes or tweaks in that section, just new things to challenge yourself on. But that doesn't mean we didn't get around to some great tweaks and fixes.
Game-Wide Changes
• Optimized Enemy, Object, and Pickup Parent codes - reducing code by 1000+ lines, should improve engine load in late-late endless stages
 • Bullet based weapons now factor in Damage Modification
 • Bullet based weapons now factor in Critical Hit Chance
 • Replaced the font in Shop menus
 • Added a description tip to every shop
 • Shop menus no longer display on top of settings menu
 • Shops can no longer be interacted with while settings menu is open
 • Re-located player spawn location in "High Seas"
 • Volleyball pickups now correctly draw a line to Choice Signs
 • Added subtle controller rumble to enemy kills
 • Difficulty Tier +1 now gives enemies a single extra HP in Endless stages (at the 10 minute mark)
 • Added Difficulty Tiers +6-8 to Endless Stages for particularly long games and broken builds
 • Added new Stat to Stats Screen: Explosion Mod, increase in value increases radius of explosions
 • New Passive Pickup: Cookbook - increases Explosion Mod by 5
 • Added Cookbook to World 3/4 Loot Pools and Encyclopedia
 • Reduced Corpse Bomb explosion radius from 20 -> 16
 • -Reduced Corpse Bomb frag count from 12 -> 10
 • -Corpse Bomb, Boom Sticks, and Grenades are all affected by Explosion Mod stat

Beyond some quality-of-life and optimization, an entire new stat was added to the game: Explosion Mod. Alongside this is a new Passive pickup that is available in the base game to increase your Explosion Mod. Shop menus are looking much cleaner and helpful, too. Beyond that was a re-configuring of Endless (and Remix) mode difficulty. Previously the difficulty curve was an amorphous thing with five tiers, it's now a much more defined 8 tier system, allowing the difficulty to get to punishing new heights. Controller players can enjoy the addition of a slight rumble as well, a small taste brought over from our burgeoning console ports.

Enjoy the Remix Update! This is not the end of Beef Cat Ultra, just another step, and we hope you follow along as the game continues to grow!

Thanks,
Kyle

The Remix Update: Final Preview

Howdy Beeflandians!

We are just days away from our largest ever update, adding new stages/mode/weapons, and including tons of little tweaks. To learn more about the basics of the Remix Update, check the previous post.

I wanted to show off some of the new things you can find on Remix Island today! Let's dive in with a look at the Remix Island docks.

The Remix Island docks have a key quality of life feature: every stat upgrade shop in one convenient location! There are two NEW shops being added as well for thrill seekers. The first is the Great Reset shop. This resets every single stat shop to their default zero values. Did you buy so many damage upgrades you made the game trivial? Reset! OR! Buy in to the Remix Difficulty shop. This increases the base difficulty of the Remix Island stages, with three tiers at patch launch. This difficulty increase is steep and for folks that want a challenge and want to still endlessly buy stat increments. Difficulty too hard? The Great Reset shop will reset this one as well.

Shop menues got a glow-up! Alongside a font change for legibility, every shop now has a brief one line description about what is actually happening when you purchase something. This is applied to shops game-wide, not just Remix Island of course.

Back to Remix Island exclusives, let's take a look at two new weapons.

Uppercut is a vertical attack that passes through all enemies in it's range. It shares a damage stat with Fisticuffs, meaning upgrading one - upgrades both. Picking up multiple Uppercuts increases the range of the attack. A new level up option on Remix Island increases the damage of fist based attacks as well. Start with Tweezer and hope for some good RNG!

Gross Grass is a buildable weapon, placing down weeds every so often. Those weeds have a small chance every now and then to spawn friendly ticks. That spawn chance is shared with the chance that Pills have to spawn Ticks. And a new level up option in Remix Island increases the chance for both weapons to spawn ticks. Disco Debbie is looking good for this weapon.

If you caught a trend with the two new weapons shown here, there's a big emphasis on ~SYNERGIES~. Almost every new weapon, passive, or level up option can have a ripple effect on other weapons, passives, or level up options. With the randomness of Remix Island, building towards a cohesive and destructive build is inherently harder, but with a new focus on synergies your loadout can be given a whole new level of thought.

The Remix Update releases THIS WEEK (After Christmas). I'm stuffing every idea I can into the new upgrade options and then it'll be golden.

See you on Remix Island very soon,
Kyle

The Remix Update First Look

Howdy Beeflandians,

I figured now would be a good time to show off some of the new content in The Remix Update. Beyond tons of little fixes and optimizations, this update has a significant infusion of ~CONTENT~. So let's dive in.

The Remix Update brings Beef Cat and Friends to Remix Island, a small island south of Stinky Coast. How do you get there? The dock in Stinky Coast of course, which will feature a new boat after beating the final boss. This is post-game content for Beeflandia's Best. Remix Island is home to four new large stages all with the new Remix Mode which for description purposes is our randomizer mode.

Navigating the new stages and mode come with a new objective - total enemy kills. Remix tasks you with defeating 5,000 enemy units before you are overwhelmed. Remix features a difficulty curve similar to Endless mode - where after periods of time, enemies have more HP and base speed. That curve is ~harder~ in Remix. Fortune favors the bold. Luckily you have access to a random pool of every piece of loot in the game, including some new items. But the loot isn't the only randomized element for you to grow.

Regardless of what character you start with, level up screens can contain the bonuses from any of the other characters, and even several completely new level up bonuses exclusive to Remix mode.

Fight through familiar locations, with random loot, random enemy spawns, random starting point, nearly random everything. Score victories in these stages to endlessly rack up the Remix Island clear counter - unlocking access to new shops and fun things.

---

The goal of this update is to provide endlessly repeatable content for people wanting to just sink in to some Beef Cat Ultra and find something new to challenge them. The update, content and fixes, is well under construction and will release before the end of the year! We hope you will all enjoy a fresh new take on BCU!

Thanks all,
Kyle

What's New in Beeflandia?

Hello Beeflandians!

There has been a lot brewing behind the scenes for Beef Cat Ultra. So I wanted to pop in and give an update - because Beef Cat Ultra is certainly going to be growing the next handful of months!

First: The Remix Update

This update was originally slated for this month, but we need more time to cook it. We're adding four new stages in a new Remix mode, several new items, providing a way for repeatable challenges for players that want to go after one more high score. Alongside that update will be a slew of new Steam Achievements. We'll be setting sail for Remix Island in the short-term future. Our focus has been elsewhere though lately on the second topic.

Second: Consoles

We can't provide really any information at this time, but Beef Cat Ultra is coming to consoles. We have been hard at work making this a reality and will be able to provide an update in the future.

Anyways! Beef Cat Ultra will be available for 15% off during the Steam Holiday sales. Consider checking us out, gifting to a friend, or dropping a review to let us know what you liked (or disliked, feedback helps no matter what).

See you around!
Kyle
