macOS content issues should now be fixed!

Hi everyone. I want to let you know that Steam support has helped us get to the bottom of the issue with content distribution on macOS that was leaving many users with nothing more than an "EmptySteamDepot" file.

The problem was, unfortunately, due to a Steamworks configuration mistake that I made in which the macOS depot was not properly attached to all of the various packages--this is also the reason why we weren't able to reproduce the issue on our end, because the developer testing package was not affected by the problem. Long story short, I've applied Valve's suggested correction and that should hopefully fix the problem for everybody, forever.

Again, I want to apologize to everybody who has been affected by this issue. Your support means a lot to the team, and I know how frustrating and annoying this has been. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to solve this faster, or better yet avoid it entirely, but I'm only human.

If you have experienced issues with running Krita on macOS, please validate your files (or reinstall) and try again, and let me know if the issue has been fixed on your end.

Sorry all.
Emmet

macOS: EmptySteamDepot issue is being looked into!

We've been getting multiple reports and emails from Steam macOS users that, for some reason, their Krita isn't working because they are not properly receiving Krita's program content from Steam. This seems to be a problem that only some macOS users are having, and strangely, none of the dev team's macOS testers have been able to reproduce this issue on their systems.

But for those of you who *are* having this very annoying issue, I want to say first that I'm sorry, and also tell you that we are aware of the issue and have put a support ticket in with Steam to see if they can help us figure out what is going wrong. This is kind of a puzzling issue, but if anybody will know what's going wrong it's Valve, so I hope that we will be able to resolve this as soon as possible.

Again, I'm really sorry for those of you who have been affected by this "EmptySteamDepot" issue. You have gone out of your way to buy Krita on Steam as a means of supporting the project, with the simple promise of fast and convenient content updates in return. Please know that I will do my best to figure this problem out as soon as I can.

(If you are having any issue with Krita on Steam, please don't hesitate to let us know!)

Note: Rollback Branch Temporarily Disabled.

Update: Issues with the rollback branch have been resolved.

Windows and Linux users can once again use the rollback branch to downgrade to Krita 4.4.8 if needed.

For MacOS users, there will be no difference between the default and rollback branches just yet, because Krita 5.0 is the first MacOS Krita release to be distributed through Steam. (The next time we advance the rollback branch the version should be consistent across all of the supported platforms.)

Thanks again for your patience if you have been relying on the rollback branch. Hopefully it should work properly for everyone now.

--- ORIGINAL POST ---

Hi again. We've been having a minor issue with users who accidentally enable the "rollback" beta branch and wind up with an empty Krita folder on macOS. As a quick fix we've temporarily disabled the rollback branch, and I will be posting an updated build that fixes this issue over the next day or so.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.

Krita 5 for macOS is here!

Hi Krita community, Emmet here.

As you probably know, we released the latest big update to Krita, version 5.0, just a few weeks ago. It was one of our biggest updates ever, so if you haven't had time to check it out yet then you might want to take a peek at the release notes. This was one of those patches where we were all working hard up until the very last minute, but we got there!

One thing that we had to delay for a couple weeks however, was bringing the macOS version of Krita to Steam. But the wait is over and now people who generously support Krita on Steam will have a convenient way to draw, paint and animate on Linux, Windows and Mac computers. Ivan, one of our core developers, has been hard a work getting Krita's performance and stability up to scratch on the newest 64-bit Intel x86 and Apple M1 computers, so we hope that users on macOS will have a great time.

And finally, as always, thank you! Krita is an open source and community-driven project, and so we completely rely on support from users like you to make development of new features and improvements possible. Without the financial, technological and moral support that we receive from our community of artists and programmers, development would simply grind to a halt. Steam is a big part of that and because of your generous support, we are able to provide a tool even for artists who can't afford to.

Thanks!

The Story Continues, Krita 5.0 is Here!

Hey Steam community, I'm thrilled to let you know that today is the day!

What day, you ask? The day that Krita 5.0, the biggest Krita update in years, is finally here!

It has been a long road and a lot of work to get there, but we hope that you'll find that Krita 5 is more powerful, flexible, and solid than before. We've got a whole new resource system, improved animation tools, better gradients, a brand new storyboarding workflow, a new brush engine, a docker for recording time-lapse videos, and a whole slew of other features and improvements.

Please go check out our Krita 5.0 release notes page for all of the details on what's new, along with images and videos that highlight just about everything that the new Krita has to offer.

I'll keep this post short, because there's a lot of more fun stuff to read over on the release notes page, but I want to send an extra special thank you to all of our supporters here on Steam. The vast majority of you know that Krita is an open source and community-driven tool for artists everywhere, and that we rely on the financial support of the art community to fund development. A big chunk of that funding comes from the users like you who generously support us right here on Steam, and without you it simply wouldn't have been possible to put as much into this release as we have. So, thank you!

Now go check out those release notes!
