Hi everyone!

I'm super excited to announce today that Super Mining Mechs is launching on October 25th! The demo will be available even earlier on October 14 as part of Steam Next Fest. I'm planning to launch the game around 1pm CEST.

If you want to get notified when the game launches, make sure to add it to your Steam wishlist:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2830150/Super_Mining_Mechs/

I've also received quite some questions about the pricing of the game. The game will follow the regional pricing adjustments from Steam from a base price of $5 USD. Again - do keep in mind that pricing will adjust based on your local currency!

Thanks for the support so far and I'm super excited for the release of Super Mining Mechs!

Alright - on to this week's post. This week I want to go into more detail on the resources you can find in Super Mining Mechs as I'm sure many of you are wondering how many juicy resources there are to collect!

In the game, planet Earth has run out of natural resources and it's up to you to find alternatives. Of course as any determined miner would - you go on an expedition to another planet to search for alternative resources. On launch the game will have three planets to explore, each with different resources to find. The resources in Super Mining Mechs are all based on the Periodic Table of Elements which includes all events that can be found on planet Earth.
Periodic Table of Elements
An overview similar to the real life Periodic Table of Elements is included in the game, showing you exactly what resources you have and have not yet found. Once found, you'll be able select the resource and view tons of useful info, such as its rarity, its location, its value, general info and how many you've found so far.
Objectives
To restock Earth's supply of natural resources, May will provide you with objectives consisting of a set of resources. When you find and deliver the set to May, she'll send them up to Earth and you'll unlock new modules to upgrade your mech. Progress is shared, so when playing online with friends you're collectively working on the same objectives!
Categories
The Periodic Table of Elements categorizes the elements categories and each planet will contain a certain set of elements. You can easily determine what category a resource is by its sparkles, as they correspond to the category color of the elements overview. You can also see this color in the background of the inventory slots. So no need to memorize the entire periodic table of elements haha!
Buildings
Buildings don't require specific resources but can be built with any resources from the specified categories. As long as the category fits, you can choose what you use to build with. Building requirements change based on the planet you're at to make sure they can always be built with local resources, so no need to bring stuff back and forth..

Alright, that's it for this week. See you next week with an important announcement so stay tuned for that or join the Discord make sure you don't miss anything!

Devlog #5: Building

Hey everyone!

In this week's Devlog I'd like to share an exciting new feature in Super Mining Mechs; Base Building!

(PS: if you haven't added the game to your wishlist yet, please do so! this way you'll be notified when the game launches)
+ Wishlist
Building Basics
Let's start with the basics; what do buildings do and how does it work? Building underground allows you to build bases that you can use for all sorts of stuff. To start building, simply select what you want to build from your building selector (which is similar to the item selector) and place it on the ground. Once placed, you need to construct it by delivering the right materials. Each building requires a certain amount of resources from specified categories of the period table of elements (indicated by the color). You can choose what resources from within the required categories you want to deliver. Once delivered, you can complete the construction!
Power
The first building you need is a power plant, which is used to power all the other buildings. It draws its power from an energy crystal, which can be found throughout the map by their glowing roots. Once dig up, you can place a power plant on top and deliver the right materials to construct it. From there, you can run a cable to your buildings using connectors.
Mines
Mines are the most important buildings in Super Mining Mechs, as they can mine resources autonomously and they are the map objectives. Similar to how power plants can only be built on top of energy crystals, mines can only be built on mining sites, located in caves. Once constructed, the mine can be powered by running a power line from the power plant to the mine, and there you go; passive mining!
Platforms
Platforms were probably one of the most requested features in Mining Mechs, as you cannot dig while flying, which sometimes makes it hard to reach valuable resources. Luckily the building mechanic offers a good solution for this. You can now build platforms on any location from which you can dig left or right!
Radar
Another much requested feature was a mini map, so I'm happy to say I've added a radar that enables the mini map for its surrounding environment. As you can see in the start of the video, the mini map is not receiving any signal. Then, when the radar tower is constructed and powered, you can see the mini map turning on.
Portal
Although the teleporter item can be used to quickly move above ground from any point underground, it's not possible to get back down. The advantage of a portal is that it can be used in two directions, so you can get back up to your pod quickly, drop stuff off, and get back down quickly.

There's a couple more buildings but we'll cover those in a later devlog as they are related to another new feature I want to cover seperately! Hope you guys are enjoying these devlogs - if so, please feel free to drop a comment below. Want to vote on the next devlog topic, or suggest a feature? Join the Discord or leave a comment below!

Devlog #4: Story & Characters

Hey everyone!

In this week's Devlog I'd like to share some more about the story of the game and the characters you get to interact with. I'm not going super in-depth because I don't want to spoil too much of the story just yet, so don't worry about spoilers in this post.

(PS: if you haven't added the game to your wishlist yet, please do so! this way you'll be notified when the game launches)
Premise
In Super Mining Mechs, you play as a miner who - thanks to their advanced mining mech - is responsible for most of the worlds resource extraction. However, earth's population doesn't exactly use their resources responsibly, leading to planet earth running out of all natural resources. To resolve this, you and your team get tasked to find alternatives on other planets. Soon after, you and your crew travel to another planet and start exploring the underground. Right away you notice that this planet's crust is much thicker than earth and you'll need to significantly upgrade your mining mech to mine deeper. Luckily, your crew can use your newfound resources to research and assemble a super mining mech, allowing you to explore deeper and deeper.

Your seemingly harmless mining mission seems to be off to a good start! ...until you find out you might not be the only ones there...
May
May is the leader of the expedition. Her father is mayor and responsible for resolving the resource shortage on earth. May keeps track of your objectives and helps you stay focused. Through May, you can send collected resources to earth which she'll reward with blueprints for new modules. Fun fact; you can also hear May's voice in the voice over of the trailer!
Lucy
Lucy is the team's mechanic. She'll help you assemble and upgrade your super mining mech to reach new depths. Lucy can craft modules based on May's blueprints, as long as she has the materials to do so. For this, she'll have to charge you. Fun fact; the first thing Lucy picked up as a baby was a wrench and she has not let it go since then.
Bill
Bill can help you bank or sell your loot. Of course, May would prefer to see you deliver your resources to be sent to earth. However, since Lucy's upgrades are costly, Bill is an essential team member. Fun fact; it's unknown whether space trading is tax free, but according to bill we shouldn't worry about it.
Luke
Luke is a man of few words. Luke's hobbies are shoveling and... well that's about it. He joined the team for his shoveling expertise, but later expanded his skillset by providing useful items such as bombs, nitro's and... confetti? Fun fact; although Luke's supplies are limited, he somehow has an unlimited supply of confetti.
Yumi
Yumi is the genius of the team. She's in charge of all the structural engineering required to help you build underground bases. Yumi is also a certified space ship pilot and will fly you to any location you want to go to. Fun fact; Yumi replaced her leg with a prosthetic as according to her 'this one is more efficient'.

Full credits to Victor 'Tic' Athayde for the amazing pixel art - who drew the characters above and most of the art of the rest of the game. Check out more of his work here: https://flow.page/artoftic

Alrighty, that's it for this week. Hope this gave you a fun little insight in the premise of the game and the characters you'll be dealing with. Want to vote on the next devlog topic, or suggest a feature? Join the Discord or leave a comment below!

Devlog #3: Digging & Gathering

Hey everyone!

This Devlog is about a small but very important update to the game changing the way resources are gathered. One of the things I personally love most about Mining Mechs is that it's relaxing and satisfying. I'm always trying to tweak and optimize this to see how I can make the game the game even more satisfying and I think this update is a really good example of that, so I figured I'd share this with you all this week.

(PS: if you haven't added the game to your wishlist yet, please do so! this way you'll be notified when the game launches)
+ Wishlist

Little disclaimer before I start; please keep in mind that this part of the game is still in active development. There are placeholders / missing things in all of the GIFs and everything is subject to change.
Early game
When you're just starting out your mining speed will be low. This is not much different from the previous Mining Mechs game, with the exception of the digging being continuous and the gathered resources popping up over your head.
Late game
Now this is what it would look like with a late game build. As you can see here you can cut through dirt like butter and you gather multiple resources with each ore you mine. In a matter of seconds you can now gather what previously took minutes. You can also see the color and animation of the text change based on the combo you get.

Of course getting to the end game parts will take a long time and the progress will be gradual. I would love to know what you all think of this update. I'm considering adding a combo bonus to the gathered resources too so that for example there'd be a multiplier bonus when you hit a combo chain of 100.

Alright, that's all I have to share for now. Want to vote on the next devlog topic, or suggest a feature? Join the Discord or leave a comment below!
