Really teeny art section this week! My only contribution was the art for the birdhouse-inspired seedling houses, which are both practical (protecting your seedlings) and decorative (looking pretty). Lots of customization options has always been a feature we've wanted to include in Sprite's Honor, so I created several styles and colors to personalize the island.

Here is my recap on coding the seedling homes!

The seedling houses are a simple node consisting of a collision shape and an area node that detects if the house is on the ground or in the air. This is so the player is only allowed to place the house up in the trees, if the area detects ground it won't allow the player to place it.



Next I wanted to create a rope that reacted to movement and was physics based. I realized that someone had already made a 2d physics based rope addon which was super helpful. There was only a little tweaking to get the addon to work with my node!




The last thing I did was allow the seedlings to be put inside and taken out. The player clicks on the seedling then the house and the house adds that seedling node to an array and the seedling node is paused and hidden.

Devlog #003 ( Battling & The Scout Fairy Brambleβš”οΈ)

Because Bramble, the scout sprite, is injured and walks instead of flying for some of the gameplay, he needed two sets of animations. I had created only his walk and but not his flying, so I finished those first. After his 4-direction movement, he needed several more "action" animations, most importantly his attack.




Next, I moved onto the actual battle scene. The gnome king got a facelift, making his outfit slightly fancier and making him larger than regular gnomes.

The last thing I tackled was UI for getting to battle. The UI in place was flawed so we reevaluated what was needed, then I fiddled with elements and organization until I was satisfied with it.



As always, I'm excited to see everything implemented in-game!

[/h3]Hey! Here's my recap on programming the battling aspects.

First I went back and touched up the battle levels. I went through all five levels added in the different level art and added the King gnome new art in. I also fixed some leftover bugs and changed the way the battle scene loads in.



Once that was done, it was time to make battles happen back on your camping site.

First I created gnomes that will come into your campsite and try to pillage.


Next, I coded Bramble. I made him able to attack and made his stamina bar deplete when gnomes land their attacks.


This took a while to get working as there were many parts to code - the seedlings, Bramble, and the gnomes. But once I got it all working I was pretty proud of the outcome :D .

Despite our medic character, Violet, not being playable until recently, all of her base animations (4-direction movement, speaking) were completed months ago, along with the rest of the fairies' base animations. The only animation I had left was a healing animation. I think of healer characters as generally reserved and gentle, so I wanted to make sure Violet's matched her more excitable and curious personality.



Violet also needed a workstation like the other characters. I toyed ideas of a toadstool, tree stump or dirt mound but eventually settled on a little tent, which lent to the summer camp/scout aesthetic. As usual, I made a ton of variations before settling on a final one.




Lastly, Violet's signature fairy dust particle effect will finally get to be utilized!



Programming πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»
Hello, here's my recap of programming the Medic fairy. Because the medic fairy works differently ( she doesn't gather resources) coding her was a bigger task. The medic fairy's job is to heal both seedlings and Fairys so there was a lot to be done.

First I had to code in the possibility and mechanic of the fairies getting hurt while working. This will make them run a sick emote prompting the player to heal them with the medic.






Next was the Seedlings. Unlike the fairies, seedlings don't get sick. They instead have an HP bar that gets depleted from starvation and battling.



Violet can refill the HP bars and even give extra HP based on how many seedlings she has equipped.



And to finish things off I created some cutscenes for when the player unlocks Violet.
