Conquer Pokémon's Sinnoh region with this Civilization 6 map mod

While we all wait to find out what Firaxis has decided to do next with Civilization VI, players are finding their own fun through the wonderful world of Civ 6 mods. Some mods have brought new life to the 4X game's stale oceans, while others let you summon XCOM's aliens to help you conquer the map. This map mod lets you conquer Pokémon's Sinnoh region.

This mod was created by user Skylar Saphyr to celebrate the upcoming release of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, remakes of the original Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum games, which are set in the Sinnoh region, and launched the fourth generation of Pokémon.

This huge 86x80 map manages to recreate everything from the snowy north to the massive mountain range that splits the region down the centre, along with all of the major forests and lakes. Minor rivers are still procedurally generated by Civ 6's world generator, so no two games will be exactly alike, and there are plenty of easter eggs to discover as well.

Civilization fan spends a month making 150 Civ 6 builds in Minecraft

You may remember a few months ago when we spotted a Civilization fan who was remaking Civ VI's wonders in Minecraft, and it seems the Civilization x Minecraft fan crossovers are not over yet. User Karlusha has stepped up to the plate, making nearly 150 recreations of Civilization VI infrastructure builds on the mini-plots in the popular crafting game.

As far as Minecraft builds go, these are certainly creative. Being able to recreate just one of the strategy game's 3D models in the game's blocky visual style is certainly no easy feat, and Karlusha has done 147, with a further nine terrain tiles. They've then combined some of them to create more intricate builds of connecting squares, with roads and bridges linking everything together where needed.

Karlusha stated that it took them around a month to complete this set, working on "small portions in spare time". I guess this is one way to pass the time while we wait for Civilization 7 to turn up. We're not the only ones showing our appreciation either - plenty of other denizens of the r/civ subreddit have also shared their admiration for Karlusha's work as well.

Six new ways to play Civilization 6

Civ 6 strategy guide: beginner tips and tutorials

Even all these years after release, a Civilization VI strategy guide is always handy as new players are always discovering this seminal 4X game for the first time. Even if you're a Civilization veteran, it might be time to dust off your internal Civilopedia and reacquaint yourself with the basics of world domination.

To help facilitate this, we've put together a beginner's guide explaining many of the basic concepts of the strategy game, from where to found your first city, to diplomacy, warfare, and the game's victory conditions. Use this primer as a way to get acquainted with the game, before tackling more complex strategies and elements.

Please note that certain aspects of Civilization VI change dramatically depending on what Civ 6 DLC you own. For example, Gathering Storm introduced environmental hazards and pollution, as well as the Diplomatic victory. Barring a few cases, we're sticking to universal concepts that can apply no matter what version of the game you're running, although to be honest vanilla Civ VI pales in comparison to how the game plays with both of the primary expansions. We've also not mentioned content from the recent New Frontier Pass either, although you should read our thoughts, as well as this overview of the most recent balance patch, to get an idea as to what state the game is in currently.

This Civilization 6 mod lets you unleash XCOM's aliens on the world

If there's one thing Civilization VI is missing, it's aliens. A study done in 1501* found that aliens make strategy games better in almost every instance, with the exceptions being games that already have aliens in them. Now you can unleash some interstellar interlopers on your foes thanks to a new Civ 6 mod.

Better yet, these aliens look like the ones from Firaxis' other iconic turn-based strategy game, XCOM. By building a new world wonder called Area 51, your empire will be gifted one UFO unit, and some 'Alien Infiltrators'. You can train more infiltrators, but they cost increasing amounts of faith. The UFO unit can't be replaced, but creator JNR mentions that the unit is as strong as the existing late-game unit Giant Death Robot.

The UFO also comes with a unique promotion tree that can either make it more potent or buff your infiltrator units as they don't come with their own promotion trees. We're not actually sure what the infiltrators do, as there's no further information given, but we can take an educated guess.
