CD Projekt Red won't start marketing their games until closer to launch now

During CD Projekt Red's company strategy video yesterday, the studio covered all sorts of ways in which they feel they got things wrong during Cyberpunk 2077's development. Not just development, but Cyberpunk's marketing too. In the future, they say they'll wait until much closer to a game's launch to start firing up trailers and demos and in depth looks at gameplay. That means if there's another big Witcher game out there on the horizon, we may not hear about it for quite a while yet. Honestly? Good.

In a company strategy video released today, CD Projekt Red have outlined changes they plan to make to the development studio's structure and focus. Chief among the changes is the news that their next project will no longer be a standalone multiplayer Cyberpunk game.

Instead, they're going to focus on developing fundamental technology that will eventually bring multiplayer components to all of their games. This was explained alongside a shift towards "parallel AAA game development", which will allow them to simultaneously work on both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series.

The Wild Hunt appears to be on its way to Netflix's The Witcher. Set photos of season two show a heavily-armoured group on horseback, and they bear a resemblance to The Witcher 3's villains.

Several pictures from the filming of The Witcher's second season in Devon, UK have been posted, revealing characters that might be familiar to people who played the RPG games. Decked out in black armour, carrying some hefty weapons, and generally looking like something that'd make even the Nazgúl shiver, all signs point to these being The Witcher 3's titular Wild Hunt.

Sources have told Redanian Intelligence this is the case, and if so, it makes season two even more enticing. The Wild Hunt appear as central antagonists in The Witcher 3, after their leader shows up in the first, and they get a mention in the second. They're a cavalry of elves who capture humans as slaves to bring back to Aen Elle, the realm of the Alder Folk, and they're based on a European myth of the same name that was an omen for fear and catastrophe.

New Witcher season two castings reveal a new character and a gender swap

Netflix's Witcher series is marching ever closer to its second season, and today the studio has taken the time to confirm seven more cast members for the show. A few of those names had come up previously - including Philippa Eilhart - but now it's official. Some of these characters will be at least vaguely familiar to you from the RPG games, but there are a few surprises among the cast.

Among those familiar characters, we have Dijkstra, the head of Redanian Intelligence (the in-universe organisation, not the fansite that's brought us so many early reports of casting decisions like these). He's played a substantial role in the games, and will be portrayed in the show by Graham McTavish.

We also have Nenneke (briefly mentioned in Witcher 3), a priestess of Melitele who'll be played by Adjoa Andoh. We'll see Chris Fulton as Rience, a major antagonist through the book series. There's Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, a casting decision that already broke out recently.

Netflix's The Witcher gets its Philippa Eilhart

At long last, we know who will be playing sorceress Philippa Eilhart in Netflix's The Witcher series. The show, which is approaching the end of filming for its second season following some pandemic-related disruptions last year, will reportedly include the polymorphing sorceress well-known from the RPG games in the coming series, and she'll be played by actor Cassie Clare.

That's according to Witcher fan site Redanian Intelligence, which reports that Philippa Eilhart - advisor to Redania's King Vizimir II and leader of the Lodge of Sorceresses - will be joining Netflix's series in season two. IMDB notes that Clare is from London, UK, and joined the National Youth Theatre, before going on to act in TV shows like Delicious and The Bisexual, as well as films such as Beauty and the Beast and Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

There aren't any details, sadly, on what we can expect from Philippa in series two of The Witcher, but given her role in the books by Andrzej Sapkowski and CD Projekt Red's games, we can guess she'll be pretty key to the plot in some way.
