The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to the next generation!

We’re working on the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing, HDR and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game.

The best RPG games on PC

What are the best RPG games on PC? And yes, we're aware that RPG already stands for role-playing games, but apparently the wider internet isn't. Either way, it's not an easy question to answer, especially given the number of them out there and the hours required to beat them - we're talking 50+ hours most of the time...

Plus, as a stalwart PC genre that came into existence in the '70s, videogame RPGs have changed a lot over the years, with their upgrade trees and rulesets branching out into practically every other genre. Their scale and scope is massive like never before, with tech finally starting to catch up to the ambitions of developers, allowing for huge worlds and entirely new RPG experiences.

The diversity of the RPG nowadays is hard to express. Just in our selection below we've got interplanetary exploration, lightsaber duels, bloodthirsty vampires, irradiated mutants who need to be beaten with golf clubs, lizards who can talk to cats, and a whole lot of dice rolling if that's your jam.

Game crossovers brought to life by mods and community creations are nothing new. League of Legends' Akali has appeared in Risk of Rain 2, The Witcher has come to Skyrim, and Skyrim's Dark Brotherhood has even popped up in Minecraft (well, sort of), for example. Now, another unlikely but intriguing match is possible, thanks to a new mod that lets Geralt become one of the best Overwatch characters.

HackerAxe's aptly titled 'Genji of Rivia' mod lets you "bring your Genji obsession to the world of The Witcher 3", adding a brand-new set of armour as well as swords "ported from Overwatch and gently polished for maximum immersion", the creator explains. "It is time for Geralt to don the high-damage, sleek, and breathable armour of Genji Shimada - the green cyborg ninja dude from Overwatch!"

The mod's armour is made up of "4K textured" components that have been tweaked just slightly to help them fit a little more seamlessly into The Witcher's own world - though, given the RPG game's fantasy-Renaissance-esque setting, the monster slayer's probably still going to attract a few double glances from its townsfolk.

Crossover mods are nothing new for the best PC games, but they have always been a crowd favourite within the modding scene. Past highlights include Shovel Knight's armour and weapon in Dark Souls, a portal gun in Fallout 4, and even Grand Theft Auto's CJ making an appearance in Resident Evil 2 Remake. If these mash-ups sound like your cup of tea, then this new mod that mixes Skyrim with The Witcher 3 might be of interest to you.

The new mod for The Witcher 3 created by Milckywayy titled 'Skyrim Daedric Greatsword', as the name suggests, adds the iconic Daedric Greatsword from, you guessed it, Skyrim. They don't mess about, these modders, do they? The mod allows Geralt to purchase the demonic-looking weapon from three locations around the game world: "Hattori's home, ofieri merchant, and grandmaster smith in Toussaint", the modder explains.

So, for all of you Elder Scrolls fans, this probably won't quench your ever-present thirst for Elder Scrolls 6 release date news, but it may provide a fun distraction during your journeys through Velen and Skellige.

For every riveting sword fight and majestic fireball thrown during the first season of Netflix's The Witcher, there was a Hedgehog Man, or something else that looked perhaps a touch slapdash. Fans eager for the second season of The Witcher should be pleased to learn that Industrial Light and Magic, George Lucas' legendary visual effects studio, is contributing to the production of season two.

That doesn't mean we'll be seeing X-wings and TIE fighters duking it out over the forests of Nilfgaard or anything, although ILM has been key to the visuals in just about every major Star Wars film. The studio has also done work for effects-heavy non-Star Wars blockbusters including Jurassic Park, Men in Black, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Pacific Rim, and countless others.

As Redanian Intelligence reports, the studio has won a whopping 16 Academy Awards for its work in visual effects, and the range of titles and settings it's worked on is broad - working in the grim fantasy setting of The Witcher should be no problem at all.
