Train Sim World - Winter Survey 2024

This survey will aim to give our teams a greater understanding of our players and use data alongside your suggestions to guide us forward. It will cover your thoughts on Train Sim World 5 features, recent Add-ons releases, and then we'll look ahead to get your input for the type of content you want to see in the future!

Our teams are constantly getting involved across the community to gather key feedback and see new suggestions, however, the survey we've shared below will help us tie in those useful opinions to many more statistics, such as preferred platforms, region of the world or time spent playing in a given week. This lets us build an understanding of every type of player who plays Train Sim World, and how we can make the best experience with features you want most.

In the past these surveys have helped us bring Creative tools, Training Center and recently Conductor Mode into Train Sim World, directly from the result of your survey responses in the past, which is why your feedback is so important to us!

Head into the Train Sim World Winter 2024 Survey

Please note, everything asked in our survey above is designed to gauge how players feel about new content, and about our games as a whole - it is worth nothing that the inclusion of content/features in the survey is not confirmation that we are developing these, or if it'll happen in the future - this is why we're asking you first how they feel about it.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts, the survey should take around 30 minutes to complete in total and will close on Sunday 15th December.

As a special bonus, we’ll also be offering 20 lucky entrants (chosen at random from all those who enter) the chance to win an Add-on of their choice. Entry to the competition will be at the end of the survey, and winners will be contacted before January 12th. Good luck and thank you for your continued support.

WCML : Preston - Carlisle Out Now!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

If you're new to Train Sim World, this route Add-on is the second release by Partner Programme Developer Just Trains, following Blackpool Branches last year. For their most recent work, they've developed almost 100 miles of railway in England's northwest and a timetable that includes a huge variety of movements and operations.

The route is available for Train Sim World 5. If you've yet to upgrade, you can do so via the Free Starter Pack or through one of the paid bundles.

Train Sim World 5: Deluxe Edition comes with both West Coast Main Line: London Euston - Milton Keynes, as well as the Avanti West Coast Class 390 Pendolino. Players getting Just Trains' West Coast Main Line will be able to use Free Roam to run the Class 87 along the more modern section of the WCML from London, or experience the Class 390 on the northern stretch, albeit in an era before these trains were introduced.
NEW Locomotive: Class 87/0 Electric
plus BR Mk 3a Coaches, FFA/FGA container flats and BBA steel wagons

The star of the show is the arrival of a brand-new locomotive to the Train Sim World fleet with the classic Class 87/0. This regular runner of the West Coast Main Line comes in two liveries and with a distinct style of operation that might be more familiar to players of German electric locomotives than British diesel ones!

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Highlights include:
 • Authentic Neutral section operation, unique for a UK loco in Train Sim World.
 • Fully accessible loco ‘corridor’ (machine room) including operating controls. You can walk fully between the cab ends.
 • Fully authentic sound set, supplied by Armstrong Powerhouse.
 • A unique and large number of locomotive name plates included.
 • Includes two liveries.
 • Locomotive operating tutorials.
 • Ability to start from a totally dead state.
 • Realistic Simugraph train dynamics based on real world data
Class 47, 08 & 101 DMU
Also included are a fleet of British diesels running passenger, freight and shunting services across the various locations on route.

The Class 47 offers a familiar face to players of previous Train Sim World routes - ideal for those wanting to learn the route before embarking on an electric journey with the Class 87.

The Class 101 DMU has been improved and worked on by Just Trains over the previous version from Tees Valley Line.
These include:
 • Addition of Suspension physics.
 • Enhanced audio.
 • Updated interior textures.
 • Updated destination blinds.
 • Exhaust smoke effects.

And for the shunting fans there are 6 hours of services operated by the Class 08 at Carlisle using multiple trip workings.
Timetable and Layers
There is an extensive 24 hour working timetable encompassing everything from express, local, mail, freight, shunting and branch line services utilising the stock included and those beyond for players with the relevant Add-ons.

The Add-ons required for additional service layers and substitutions are:
 • Blackpool Branches: for the Class 142 DMU and TEA wagons.
 • West Cornwall Local: for the Seacow and Turbot Wagons.
 • Tees Valley Line: for the HEA Wagons.
 • Northern TransPennine: for the Class 45 Diesel locomotive.
 • Spirit of Steam: for the LMS Jubilee steam locomotive, Mk1 Coaches, 16t Mineral Wagon and 20t Brake Van.
 • BR Heavy Freight Pack: for the Class 40 Diesel locomotive.
 • BR Class 31 Loco Add-On: for the Class 31 and PCA Wagons.
 • BR Class 20 Loco Add-On: for the Class 20 and PGA Wagons.
 • LNER Class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman
8th Generation Consoles
Due to the technical limitations of 8th Generation consoles, the level of some of the available features are reduced and a separate, reduced timetable will be available to players on those consoles:
 • No Road Traffic throughout the route
 • The timetable will consist only of Class 87 services. Other locomotives and units included in the Add-on (Class 47, 08, 101 DMU) will be available to operate in Free Roam.
 • Additional service layers from other Train Sim World Add-ons will not be available.
Known Localisation Issues
We wanted to share a few known translation issues that will impact certain languages when playing the new West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle line from release. We weren’t able to correct these in time for the launch and will look to fold these into an update shortly afterwards to help avoid as much confusion for those impacted as possible. This refers to French, German, Chinese and Russian translations, please see the full details below:
 • Training module voiceover subtitles for French/German languages are currently in English instead of the respective set language.
 • The route name “West Coast Main Line: Preston – Carlisle” is not consistently translated for Chinese and Russian players in-game, which may cause some confusion selecting the route, or finding it via Route Hopping menus.
 • Some buttons on the Class 87 have English-only text across all languages during the Introduction, and whilst they aren’t needed to complete the tutorial, this may cause some confusion. The buttons this impacts are: Bardic Lamp Front and Tail Lamp Rear
 • For French players, both the ‘WCML: Preston - Carlisle Introduction’ and ‘Class 87 Introduction’ have a single voiceover line in English instead of in French.

We’ll let you know once we’re able to address these translation issues in a post-launch update, and we look forward to seeing all the community screenshots once it releases next week!
