Hey guys! I write these newsletters every week for our email list and social media followers but I thought I wouyld start posting them here on our Steam page as well to keep you all informed. Each newsletter generally includes Pro Wrestling X development news along with whatever other wrestling/gaming/life news I feel you would enjoy. So many of you have told us how much you love the crazy ragdoll physics bumps that are possible in Pro Wrestling X. And while we’ve always wanted PWX to pay respect to the old school wrestling games where wrestlers sold moves like wrestlers and not rubber chickens we totally acknowledge the amount of fun these ragdoll options are. So imagine my reaction a few days ago after our lead programmer gave us a new update and I saw that the random physics possibilities were increased exponentially. Now, when you suplex someone through a table in the corner we can trigger ragdoll in the victim when he connects with the table. Wood and bodies flying all willy nilly everywhere!

Mat Dickie has announced he is stepping away from game development at least temporarily. His statement is as follows:

“I've been doing this long enough to know how entire eras begin and end, and the writing on the wall is as clear to me now as it was 10 years ago. But I didn't want to disappear again without giving my supporters an explanation.

Although there's a lot more I wanted to do with this 2D format, even I'm getting tired of the "same old shit" and it's becoming increasingly difficult to squeeze fresh games out of an old system. The next technological leap will not occur until I step back and dedicate myself to starting from scratch behind closed doors.

Forcing my hand is the frightening intolerance of every single store I've worked with - from Steam to Google and Apple. They've all made it clear that my brand of game development is not welcome on their platform, and I'd rather jump before I'm pushed. Working in this politically-correct climate is like being a jester in the court of a mad king who could execute you for any petty reason! It's a miracle I even lasted this long.

My relationship with my own audience will also descend into civil war if we keep taking each other for granted. I'm tired of the same old arguments that accompany every project - from when it's released to how much it costs, and how often it's updated. Let's just accept that whatever people want from a game, it's no longer something I'm capable of delivering. All I ever wanted to do was offer gamers an alternative.

I don't want to sound too negative here because my story is mostly positive, and even this will prove to be for my own good. I've accomplished everything I ever wanted to in this business - in 2D and 3D, on PC and mobile, inside the ring and outside of it.
Ironically, I can't imagine a more varied resume coming out of one man?! As much as journalists and trolls like to downplay these accomplishments, objective number-crunchers like App Brain have me in the "Top 1%" of companies in the industry - let alone individuals. I remain proud of my "hi scores" and thankful to the millions of people who made it possible. That's why I always spelled my name with one T:

Where The F%$! Did You Guys Go?!

Nowhere! It's been a while since we pushed a playable update out to Steam but that's because we're knee deep in an entire game engine upgrade. It's going well...but slow!

So while it may have looked a bit quiet here on Steam, if you've been following us on social media you already know that we've been sending out progress updates every week and even streaming each internal update for you guys on Twitch.

Championship Edition - December 30, 2017

One of the biggest updates in the loooong history of our game, there's lots of great new stuff. We still have a bit of polish to do – there's some typos and a few other bits and pieces, so we've made things live on our Betas channel.

Here's how you find that: Right-click on Pro Wrestling X and select "Properties", then hit the Betas tab. Select "Bleeding Edge Build" from the dropdown, and you'll be good to go.

Here's the rundown of the new stuff



  • CHAMPIONSHIP MODE – We've build a basic belt chase game mode. We've still got a few bugs to work out, but this is a great first step.
  • New tournament mode – So so cool. Support for 4, 8, 12, or 16 wrestlers. If you've checked out out Twitch broadcasts recently, you've seen this in action.
  • Expanded match types – you can now have 3- and 4-way Chambers of Hell and Scaffold Matches.
  • Iron Man match type added.
  • Christmas bonus: where else are you going to get a Christmas tree covered in razor wire as a foreign object?
  • NEW MUSIC - OMG it's a Christmas miracle. We've been hearing "Beat Him Up" for YEARS, and let's be honest, we're all mighty sick of it. Thank you to Douglas Pattrick for letting us use his music – they are SO much better.
  • Pre-match streamers!
  • Added a new weak strike reversal mechanic.
  • Bunch of new UI elements and loading screens.
  • Numerous bug fixes.

NEW ARENA - HALLOWS EVE! October 27, 2017

This update started with a simple request from Dave: "Can we put a tombstone in one of the levels as a Halloween joke?" Less than a month later, our lead artist and programmer put together one of the best arena in our history: Hallows Eve!

The ring and arena work like any other level - just pick them from the menu, and you're off and running. Have fun exploring, there's lots of fun goodies around.

There's a few more bits that have been added too, and plenty of bugfixes. Here's the list:

  • Reversals - For a few of the power moves (powerbomb, double underhook backbreaker, pulling piledriver, Ballista bomb), they can be reversed into a swanky backdrop. Protip: There's a flash in the power meter that will tell you when a move can be reversed. Hit RB at the right time, and you'll make your opponent quite the fool.

  • New special grapple: Pressing Powerslam. Looks gorgeous, it's like the one Goldberg used to pull off. I'm not 100% on this, but I don't think any of the default wrestlers have it emabled, so you'll have to add it through the Edit Mode.

  • I've been assured by Robert the Man there should be no more sliding characters.

  • During our Thursday night Twitch Gong Show broadcasts, we noticed a real Player 4 bias in 4-way sim matches - he would almost always win! We put a stop to his cheating, hopefully the balance is better now.

  • For those who got stuck on the main menu loop, the Start Button actually does what it is supposed to now :-)

  • Fixed a fog issue that was bogging down entrances.

  • Miscellaneous odds and ends.

Free Cam Build – October 16, 2017

OK, this one's a work in progress, but it's got a lot of potential. We've been experimenting with a "Free Cam" – a camera that can zoom around while playing the game.

You can access the Free Cam by hitting the pause (start) button, and turning on Free Cam in the menu. Controls are exactly like Screen Shot mode – use the controller sticks to position the camera, and take shots with the A button.

(Personally, I find the current version of the Free Cam to be tough to use while you're actually playing, as your wrestler moves when trying to position the camera. However, it's absolutely STELLAR for filming CPU matches. If you've got suggestions, we're definitely looking for feedback!)
