Developer Update 2021.09.17

Hello Xsyon Citizens!

For those who follow the Xsyon forums: Evacuations have been lifted, smoke has cleared and I will be returning home this weekend. Everything is fine and the nearby fires did get within a few miles of home but were thankfully controlled. Hopefully no critters invaded the house while we were away. It will take me a few days to get the house back in order but I'm very grateful and will be glad to be back home!

Back to Xsyon, here is what is in the works:

DirectX: I've spent the past few weeks continuing work on upgrading DirectX. I've made some progress but this is a massive task as DirectX 11 / 12 is very different than DirectX 9. I'll continue working on this upgrade a few days per week but once I'm back home I plan to switch back to other features.

Terrain expansion: Thanks to volunteer players who've helped clean up the terrain a large part of the world beyond the mist is nearly ready for testing. I need to divide the outer world into proper regions. Once that's done the terrain will be ready for final tests.

Interface / Interaction: I will continue revising the interface and simplifying some basic actions. When I am done there will options so that players can play entirely in Passive mode (without having to switch to combat mode), entirely in Active / Combat mode or switch back and forth as players typically do now. I also plan to set up an optional radial menu as is popular in many current sandbox games.

As part of the interface revisions I will be adding a more prominent list of Quests / Goals and will include some automatically generated Quests to guide new players.

Additional Features: I will also be going through features and changes that I began work on over the years but put aside (like the recently added Hall of Heroes / Legends). My goal here is to finish up and add any features that just need a bit more work to wrap up.

Hall Of Heroes & Legends And More Now Live!

The Hall of Heroes & Legends feature is live!

With this new feature you can see how you stack up against players in your neighborhood or the entire Xsyon world. Leader boards in the Halls rank players by stats, skills, experience, most kills, wealth and other values.

In addition, this patch continues to enhance the game by further improving resource gathering to make things easier and less cumbersome for new and old players alike.

I will continue to improve the basics (interface, resources, crafting and game variables) over the next few weeks. As usual I will conduct feedback sessions in the Developer Zone section of the Xsyon forums.

Hall of Heroes & Hall of Legends
  • Two new building uses are available (for tents, teepees, etc. like other building uses), the Hall of Heroes and Hall of Legends.
  • The Hall of Heroes displays the top 22 players in 16 different categories whose tribe is within 1000 meters of the current tribe.
  • The Hall of Legends displays the top 22 players in 16 different categories in the entire world of Xsyon.
  • Hero categories are: Most Experience, Most Active (time in game), Wealthiest, Most Buildings, Top Warriors, Top Crafters, Top Gatherers, Most Kills, Highest Strength, Fortitude, Agility, Dexterity, Intelligence, Perception, Charm and Spirit.


Resources
  • Base resources (grass, rock, etc.) appear only in base Resource gathering mode. In Scavenge and Forage mode only scavenged and foraged items appear. This will give you more items to select from especially on scrap piles.
  • Bundles (grass, twigs, etc.) except for logs can be placed inside packs and pouches.
  • Gathering bundle items when your bundle slot is full now go to your packs.
  • Resource gathering mode uses a new icon instead of the grass icon to avoid confusion.
  • Bundled resources (grass, twigs, etc.) now stack up to 32 instead of 4.
  • Non bundle basic resources (rocks etc.) now stack to 100
  • Weights for basic resources reduced.
  • Timer bar for gathering grass removed.
  • Gathering animations shortened.
  • Full bundles in the world filled to the new max capacity.


Crafting
  • Hammer and Mallet separated in schemes.
  • Grass rope skill required reduced to 10 instead of 15.


Miscellaneous
  • Hot key for mount and dismount.
  • Turn commands put back and can be set through the Keybinds panel.
  • Starter pack increased from 20 to 30 slots.
  • Equip action on armor in your packs.


Bug Fixes
  • Fixed issue causing item loss during scavenging with full inventories.

Developer Update 2021.08.03 - Heroes and Legends

Hello Xsyon Citizens!

Some upcoming features and improvements are currently running on the Test Server!

The Hall of Heroes and Legends feature allows players to set up buildings in their tribe to display leader boards of the top most experienced players in their nearby neighborhood or the entire Xsyon world. See where you stand amongst your tribe mates, neighbors and fellow Xsyon citizens!

Further improvements to resource gathering and crafting address requests from players new and old.

My current goal is to continue making Xsyon more welcoming and inviting to new players while streamlining in game actions for all players.

Patch Notes - Workshop, Resources and Interface Patch

Workshop and Resources Update

- Workshop building use
-- Players can set buildings as Workshops
-- When standing inside a Workshop, all tools and materials contained in that building are automatically available in the player’s crafting panel.
-- All players with Lock permissions can use the Workshop building.

- Improved gathering
-- Scavenging and Foraging now automatically find available items and display them as icons in the Resource bar. Players no longer need to gather and sort through random items.
-- Players can switch between three different resource gathering modes: Resources, Scavenging and Foraging.
-- In Resource mode, players can gather base resources such as Grass, Sand, Bundles etc. only.
-- In Scavenging mode, players can gather scavenged resources in addition to the base resources.
-- in Foraging mode players can gather foraged resources in addition to the base resources.

- Crafting panel improvements
-- Crafting panel pulls materials from attached cart.
-- Crafting panel displays skill.
-- Crafting panel should not reset when you gain skill or a new scheme through inspiration.
-- Minor potential glitches with the Crafting panel fixed.

- Mouse scroll scrolls active scroll bar in open panel.
- Fix for overlapping animations.
- Your arrows pass through your own pets so that your pets will not block your ranged combat.
- Pets are released to the wild if you delete your character.
- Code for actions and combat cleaned up and reorganized.
