Developer Update 2021.02.01

Hello Xsyon Citizens!

I would just like to give you a current update of what is in the works.

1) Website backend

I’m getting the website updated to work with the latest version of PHP and other backend software. This won't change anything noticeable with the site but it needs to be done. I've patched some of the updated files but most of the changes are on a mirror of the website that I am using to ensure the required changes don't cause any issues or interruptions to the live site.

2) Bows

I still have a few steps to finish for this but I’m working a bit on it every other day and bows should be ready for public testing within the next few weeks.

3) DirectX

This is another necessary and very time consuming update. I’m spending about half my time on this major update from DirectX 9.c to DirectX 11 and 12. 11 and 12 are similar enough that I should be able to allow players to choose between these when I’m done. This update is going to take a while as it requires an overhaul of all the graphics code but it will improve performance and set things up for improved graphics when it’s done.

Once the graphics have been updated to these more recent versions of DirectX I will be able to implement requested visual improvements such as more dynamic lights, effects and improved terrain and environmental graphics.

4) Bugs

I am continuing to fix outstanding glitches with the recent patches and bugs on the forums. A few things are still being reported and there are around 10 open bug reports. I’d like to get them all closed out in addition to issues that get reported directly to me and through crash logs.

5) Interface and interaction

One of my current main focuses is to continue improving the interface and simplifying or speeding up the more time consuming game actions so that players can focus on the more enjoyable and creative aspects of the game.

I have been checking out other 'sandbox' and 'survival' games that new players tend to compare with Xsyon and taking notes on changes I can make to make Xsyon more accommodating to new players and more streamlined for veteran players.

Once bows are in game and basic actions are made more user-friendly I will finally remove Xsyon from Early Access on Steam although Xsyon will continue to evolve, add features and improve over time as usual!

Christmas Scavenger Hunt - December 26th and 27th!

This year, the Xsyon Guide Team will be running scavenger hunts to celebrate Christmas!

Hints will be posted at the start of each hunt that will lead you to a series of clues terminating at a gift location where you will receive gifts and tokens that can be redeemed for gifts of your choice.

I will post again on the Xsyon and Steam forums when the events are ready to commence.

New Features

- User Interface can be scaled up to 200% in increments.

- Stats and Skills display with 2 decimal places.
- Containers can be dragged between a cart and a building.
- You can pick up containers and bundles directly to your cart.
- Text on buttons is yellow when button is highlighted or clicked.
- Animal Materials indicate their power with a colored name.
- Chop large log to small action implemented.
- Your tribe name shows in the Inventory panel.
- You can destroy fallen trees directly without chopping them into logs.
- Patchwork Cloth Tarp pattern set up to create tarps from various materials.
- Patchwork Leather Tarp pattern set up.
- Boulders of any size on tribe lands can be removed.
- Key binds for number pad keys display as N# instead of NumPad#.
- Pets display the name of their owner when selected.
- Setting to always display HP numbers for selected creatures.
- Increased the size of the selected object / creature title bar.
- Icons in containers are tinted based on item’s rarity or power.
- Online tribe member names display in blue in Town Panel member list.
- Partial food can be eaten to fill up your hunger bar.
- Number of guts from innards doubled.
- Key bind and action for Sprint Always allows players to sprint if possible.
- Architecture placing ghosts is now instantaneous with no animation.
- Quality and Durability numbers display on Vendor (Trade Totem) items.
- Character selection / enter panel reorganized.
- Option to turn ping display on / off implemented.

Bug Fixes

- Taming messages corrected.
- Taming animation while swimming corrected.
- Feeding animation while swimming corrected.
- Trade item price updates when typing a price for a new item for sale.
- Text input for Quest descriptions improved.

Xsyon Celebrates Another Patch With 2 Week Sale!

The apocalyptic fantasy sandbox MMORPG Xsyon has been updated with another patch!

To celebrate this patch, Xsyon will be on sale (67% Off) from December 4th through December 18th.

This patch focuses on many small improvements based on player suggestions made over the years. It includes the much desired ability to scale the user interface and many other tweaks and changes.

This patch is the continuation of a series of patches that so far has included:
