POLYARIS Joins the Zero Carbon Quest and We Launch Second Test

We’re happy to share that POLYARIS will be participating in the Zero Carbon Quest, showcasing sustainable game development from December 9 to December 16, 2024.

For those who missed the first round, we’re opening the second round of the beta test. You can request a key in Polyaris official Discord server.

The test will take place sometime within the festival dates from December 9 to December 16, 2024. Don’t miss the Discord ping.

We really appreciate you being a part of the first test for Polyaris. It's vital to have this early feedback in development (we’ve only had 4 full months of development so far). We gained not only the much-needed feedback for the game but also valuable experience, as this was our first time running closed tests! So, thank you, everyone.

[h3]We wanted to share some news. [/h3]

First, we’ll be closing the current playtest tomorrow by the end of the day.

Second, we’d still love to see more responses on the feedback form! 🙂

And third, for all the new people here, as well as those who’ve been late to the party—we’re planning to run a second round soon, along with some festival we’ll announce a bit later.

P.S: All those who have keys will be able to play in the next test as well, so you don’t need to opt in again.

Disclaimer: Remember, this test is just the first touch of the game. A lot of features are still missing (including proper optimization). Our goal is to gather as much feedback as possible to help us improve the game. Don’t hesitate to share both negative and positive feedback; we’re eager to work with you to build a great product.

POLYARIS closed Playtest, the first playable demo of the pre-alpha version of the game on Steam

[h2]When[/h2]
On Thursday, October 24th (-+ day), we will send the Steam keys to emails of all the people who signed up using Google Form, you can sign up there if you haven't already

[h2]For How Long
[/h2]We're not sure exactly how long we want to run this alpha, but at least for a week. We will be gathering feedback and when we think we have enough of it, we will close the demo

[h2]What's in the alpha
[/h2]Immersive first-person player controller
  • Skiing mechanics (not at its final version)
  • Survival mechanics (cold weather, clothing, hunger and thirst, day and night and weather cycle)
  • Portable radio mechanic
  • 4 starting “onboarding” quests
  • A 2 squared kilometers Arctic island acting as a starting area for the game's story
  • Melee and ranged weapons
  • Enemies
  • Crafting system
  • Fishing system


[h2]What's NOT in the alpha[/h2]
  • Procedural infinite world. It's a lot of work for us to implement an infinite world generation system, where you could go in any direction and explore countless Arctic islands. We will be adding it in the open demo later this year.
  • Boat mechanics. The boat will be your "mobile base" which you can customize and use to traverse through an endless Arctic world, but it needs some work before it's functional. This too will come later in an open demo.
  • Other enemy types.
  • Holistic story.
  • A lot more stuff.
  • Probably you’ll face some problems with optimizations as well.

Polyaris September Updates and Closed Beta Details (with Request Details)

Hey everyone, we haven't posted updates in over a month, so I wanted to say a quick word that we're working and everything's going well for the upcoming closed demo of POLYARIS.



[h3]New things, features:
[/h3]
  • Revamped game UI, added 8 quickslots which you can assign to any object (think of favorite items).
  • Inspect item screen, where you can look at the item's model and read about it's properties.
  • Added a new ranged weapon - AK-47. When your weapon is close to an obstacle you are blocked from firing.
  • Added a new melee weapon - axe. It can be used to fight and also to harvest wood (TBD).
  • Added first enemy type - wolf. They will roam the arctic but will not be hostile to you unless they are hungry or you attack them first. (They can also eat your corpse).
  • A quest system is being developed, so that we could implement a story mode in the future.






[h3]Next priorities:
[/h3]
  • Finish the starting area for the player.
  • Add additional enemy types.
  • Flesh out skiing, movement.
  • Add sounds, audio ambience.
  • Some small bug fixes etc.
  • Launch the closed playtest on Steam.
  • Add a radio walkie talkie.




We wanted to release first demo like a month ago, but unfortunately life (vacation) happened, but we're working hard and will update you as soon as we'll be ready. peace!
