Christmas Sale, Sunside Games Bundle and Beta 1.30 of Abducted

A lot happening here so I'll be quick:

Abducted Beta 1.30

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSXkfxymd7U&feature=youtu.be
Coming up in the next Beta of Abducted will be new levels and sequences for the very beginning and very ending of the game. For spoiler reasons I won't show the ending here, its up to you if you want to see that in the next build. But the above video shows progress on the new introduction to Abducted. Hope you like it!

This goes along with new, more final in-game training and the first Chapter of the game will be getting revisions based on that. The goal at this point is to (largely) finish out the art and content of the game, as I've said before all gameplay chapters are in place. The vast majority of the game is there. What's needed are the sort of final revisions, story glue and bug fixes that will take this project out of Beta into final. This is all part of making that happen.

Bundles and Christmas Sale

I'm now taking advantage of Bundles and you might have noticed that on my game pages. Basically you can buy Crow, Abducted and the Abducted soundtrack together at any time for 30% off. That bundle discount will run all the time, year round.

Crow and Abducted are also participating in the Steam Christmas sale, and the Christmas discount adds to the bundle discount if you get them all together.

The Future

I'm at a point now where I'm giving serious consideration to the next game (even a bit of early pre-dev) and I'm really excited to continue the story of Abducted with a sequel. I'd like to also produce a Crow 2 in the Unreal engine, and take everything done there to the next level. So I have some decisions about where this all goes next, but my goal is always to give you a really interesting and unique game to play.

Anyway thanks for reading, hope you're enjoying the games and progress. Have a great Christmas!

1.29.1 Update now up

An 80MB patch just went up that fixes a number of issues across the game. It includes:

  • Bug fixes to camera look angles
  • Bug fixes to Pulse blast colliding with player, returning from pause etc
  • Reduced some excessive Arm message overlap (not completely fixed, but improved)
  • Increased Dreamscape range across the game
  • Improved Bug group visibility and logic
  • Added new gameplay tips on Hunted
  • Fixed Dreamscape problems on Falling
  • Reduced excessive rock issues on Great Unknown

Progress on Beta 1.30 is coming right along. There will be new content additions in that release, including the true final ending, some additional work on the start of the game to really round out the experience (some might say it will tie the room together). But in general 1.30 will be more final gameplay and content, new cutscenes, more story elements, and maybe the beginnings of an art polish pass.

Gameplay videos, 90% Sale and Mac update

New Video

New video has been taken of Abducted showing about 15 minutes of actual gameplay and cinematics. This is not nearly the totality of the game, not even close. There's a lot more to explore and discover. But if you're new to the game, watching these videos can give you a good sense of some of what's inside.

90% Sale

You might have noticed I'm doing a 90% sale for this game and Crow. I've never done a 90% sale before and I'm not sure if I will again, so if you want a great deal now is the time. To be completely honest as a developer, this is an experiment. I just want to see what the result is doing such a heavy discount while it's still in Early Access.

So if you're new to the game (taking advantage of this sale) or considering it, welcome! Even though the game is unfinished right now, I hope you feel it's a good deal for the money. And thank you for your support.

I plan on being part of the Steam wide Christmas sale coming up right after this one, but the % value won't be as good then. So this really is the best time to get Abducted or Crow, as I said I doubt I'll be 90% off again soon, if ever.

Mac Version

The Mac version has been updated to be in sync with Windows, latest code and content, beta 1.29. This takes advantage of the latest Metal API v2.0, SM5 and other feature sets. It's basically identical to the Windows version.

As I said elsewhere before, the goal is always to keep the Mac build in sync and up to date with the Windows version. Sometimes it lags behind by a day or 2, but the goal is to keep them updated together whenever possible.

Thanks for reading and watching everyone! As always have fun ːsteamhappyː

Abducted Beta 1.29 is now available

Progress continues with much more work done on the endgame and other bits throughout. The key changes are:

  • Major updates to The Great Unknown. This is an endgame, post-credits Chapter that is open world and nonlinear. Much more on this later and an explanation why the game is being formatted in this way. It all has to do with the narrative structure of Abducted, one of the key reasons things are being done this way is because I want the game to have a very generous ending. The Great Unknown is not a complete map yet (the story has no ending), but as of this version it is a good sample of where it's going.

  • Optimized lighting across multiple levels
  • Better 3rd person camera (DOF blur and object fadeouts up close)
  • Better character movement mechanics overall
  • Narrative additions to several levels
  • New player stun states and animations
  • Bug fixes on Falling, Going Home, The Ancient One and others
  • Lots of bug fixes and tweaks throughout

There's going to be several updates to the Steam page now that the game is much further along. Many of the screenshots and images here are out of date and are in need of an overhaul. New video is going to be presented soon that gives a much better example of where the game is at today.

Thanks for reading and as always have fun! ːsteamhappyː

Patch 1.28.2, next beta release

An update was just released, 1.28.2. It fixes some bugs, improves some gameplay and does a bit of optimization on the newly released endgame levels.

Camera and control fixes. Notice the camera should work better in tight spaces now, when it zooms into her body it goes into her head and she fades out as it gets close. Controls in general should feel a bit snappier, more responsive.

Optimization on Going Home and The Great Unknown. Lighting should look and feel a bit more final now as well. This goes along with some bug fixes that were dragging down performance. There will be more optimization to do as the graphics get finalized.

The Chapter UI has been cleaned up to list all maps in order, and the end credits is a selectable level. A couple of notes on this if you're interested: Abducted is settling in as a game with 12 playable levels, some long, some short. There are 2 more levels for the main menu and end credits, making this a 14 level project (although obviously from a gameplay standpoint, only counting the playable ones). There's a ton to say here about... everything. I want to note the levels are all there, some with more complete story and gameplay than others, but nonetheless present and moving right along.

Beta 1.29 will be out in the next couple of weeks (by mid December) and will do more to make the story elements complete. With all of the levels present, the goal in many places is to continue to fill them up. Fill them with story, gameplay, cutscenes, discoverables, persistence and so forth. So expect that and more in the coming weeks. Thanks and enjoy!
