Demo Update #4

[h2]Greetings, gladiators! 🩸[/h2]


We’ve rolled out another update to improve your gameplay experience, fix some pesky bugs, and make tweaks to keep the action as intense as ever. But first, a huge thank you to everyone who supported us during the Bullet Heaven Fest, despite only having a demo, HELLBREAK was one of the most popular games in the event! Your enthusiasm drives us to make the game even better. Check out the full details of this update below:

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Fixed an issue where controller inputs for UI buttons would continue working when the related UI was not visible, causing multiple issues such as resetting key bind changes.
  • Resolved and improved various issues related to AI navigation.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented mouse inputs from being bound to movement actions.
  • Fixed an issue where the mouse icon could interact with UI while invisible, causing some buttons to appear highlighted.
  • Fixed an issue allowing the same blessing to be equipped twice in some cases.
  • Addressed multiple focus and highlight issues on the equipment screen.
  • Improved an issue causing projectile effects to sometimes briefly appear excessively long in length.


[h2]Steam Deck Focused Fixes[/h2]
  1. Default resolution is now set to 1280x720p. New users will have this setting applied automatically, while existing users are recommended to use the auto-detect option in the video settings.
  2. Fixed an issue causing controller icons to display as PlayStation icons instead of Xbox.


[h2]Changes[/h2]
  • No More Pickup Timers: Health and ammo pickups will now remain active indefinitely, removing the previous 30-second timer.
  • Increased Ammo for Demo Weapons: The total ammo count for the Banshee, Viper, and Bloodfang has been increased by one clip each, adding 9, 25, and 6 extra ammo respectively.
  • Ranged Enemy Tweaks: Ranged enemies now have a rotation limit, giving players a better chance to dodge projectiles at close range, especially when dashing.
  • Warden (Red Crystal-Throwing Enemies) Range Reduction: The maximum range of the Warden enemy has been reduced from 50m to 30m for a fairer challenge.
  • Consistent Blessing Effects: Weapon-related blessings, such as applying a curse, now consistently trigger before damage is applied. Previously, effects like the Inferno explosion might not trigger if the enemy died too quickly.
  • Improved Blessing Differentiation: The second blessing reward (Abyssal Ward) of Varkoth has had its color adjusted to make it easier to distinguish from the first reward.
  • Clickable Key Displays: The key displays for Esc, Options, and the Active Blessings menu are now clickable.
  • UI Visibility Improvements: The font size for Combat Tips and the Soul count has been increased for better readability.

Demo Update #3

[h2]Greetings, warriors![/h2]


This latest patch introduces several quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and some new features to enhance your experience in the arena of hell. Read on for the full details!

[h2]Fixes[/h2]


  • Resolved an issue causing Gorath to bend unnaturally when hit (no more awkward contortions).
  • Fixed a problem where selected item highlight in the settings menu occasionally disappeared, both for controllers and mouse users.


[h2]Changes & New Features[/h2]
  • Blessings Filtered by Availability: Blessings will now only appear if they’re relevant to your current loadout. For example, weapon-switching blessings won’t appear if you only have one weapon, and curse-related blessings won’t show up unless you can apply that curse.
  • Wall Sliding: You will now slide along walls when moving directly toward them, reducing the chances of getting stuck, especially when walking backwards.
  • Automatic Weapon Switching: If you try to fire but your weapon is out of ammo, the game will now automatically switch to a loaded weapon (if available).
  • Localization Update: French localization is now available! 🇫🇷
  • Mission Adjustments:
    -The score requirement for Gholgoroth’s first mission has been reduced from 175,000 to 75,000, making it more accessible to newcomers.
    -The kill requirement for Varkoth’s first mission has been reduced from 30 to 20.
  • Mouse Smoothing: A new Mouse Smoothing option has been added to the settings menu. It’s enabled by default but can be turned off if you prefer a raw input feel.
  • Improved Curse Explanation Visibility: The Grimoire button (which explains what curses do that everyone ignored...) is now more visible in the blessing selection screen.
  • Mission and Blessing Menus: The Missions/Selected Blessings menu is now also accessible during the blessing selection screen. A key reminder has been added to help players know how to open it.

We’re excited to share that HELLBREAK is one of the featured games at Bullet Heaven Fest 2.0! 🎉



We also have another small update for the HELLBREAK demo, featuring more fixes, gameplay adjustments, and some changes to blessings.

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Resolved an issue where some settings wouldn’t save correctly when using a controller.
  • Fixed enemies sometimes getting stuck near obstacles.
  • Addressed an issue causing some enemies to bend unnaturally when hit. This fix may not cover all instances.
  • Cooldown notification sounds are now more audible.
  • Fixed localization issues in Russian.


[h2]Changes[/h2]
  • Increased the damage overlay effect duration from 1 second to 2 seconds.
  • The damage overlay will now remain active when the player’s health is below 15%.
  • Adjusted some blessings to reduce their negative effects. See the full list below!

[h3]Blessing Changes[/h3]

Infernal Endurance
Max HP increase reduced from 25% to 20%.
Healing reduction reduced from 40% to 15%.

Bloodbond Covenant
Healing reduction lowered from 80% to 50%.

Boundless Agility
Dash cooldown increase reduced from 50% to 30%.

Hellfire Frenzy
Movement speed reduction while firing reduced from 15% to 8%.

Blight Grenade
Grenade damage reduction lowered from 75% to 50%.

Eternal Arsenal
Grenade cooldown increase reduced from 50% to 30%.

We’re thrilled with the amazing support we’ve received over the weekend. Your reviews and comments mean the world to us. Thank you for being a part of this journey! We’ve been hard at work addressing your feedback and are excited to share the first update to the demo.

Here’s what’s new:

[h2]Fixes[/h2]
  • Resolved an issue where spells would remain locked after unlocking if the player interacted with the equipment menu beforehand.
  • Fixed various typos and localization errors.
  • Fixed some map related issues.


[h2]Changes[/h2]
  • Increased the chances of ammo drops.
  • Ammo refills now spawn when either weapon runs low on ammo, instead of waiting for both primary and secondary.
  • Grenade damage increased from 500 to 600, and the full damage radius is now 4m (up from 3m).
  • Melee range has been significantly increased.
  • Melee animation speed has been increased.
  • Increased the size of the Melee and Mission menu key indicators to make them more noticable at the start of the game.
  • Adjusted Serathiel’s first mission requirements: survival time reduced from 3 minutes and 30 seconds to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The cost to unlock the Viper weapon as a reward has been reduced to 500 (down from 1000).


[h2]New Features[/h2]
  • Melee now has a pushback effect! Don't let the enemies stand in your way!
  • Russian and Chinese localizations are now available! French and Brazilian Portuguese are coming soon.
  • Added an option in the Inputs menu to invert camera pitch.
