April News: Limeline Village + New Team Members! 🌸

Hi friends!


Here's a little update on what we have been up to since the last update:

[h2]💛 Art Update[/h2]
Over the past month, the art team has been working hard to bring a brand new in-game area to life: Limeline Village. It will be located in the historical heart of Covestadt, the main city of Cat Cafe Manager 2. Limeline Village will be shaped by old colorful buildings and charming alleyways, overgrown with greenery for you to explore. You will be able to take pleasant strolls along the canals and perhaps even discover some hidden witchy artifacts from ages past along the way.

Based on the visual research Esmeé and Carmen conducted earlier, we have developed the first pieces of concept art to capture the unique character of Limeline Village. As of now, the art team is focused on turning these visualizations into an in-game reality. Stay tuned for the upcoming newsletters to follow the journey of this adorable district coming to life!



[h2]😸 Growing Our Dream Team![/h2]
Roost Games is growing! By the start of March, we were excited to welcome three talented new team members. Tim, Mischa, and Levi have joined Roost Games as Tech Artist, 3D Artist, and Gameplay Programmer on Cat Cafe Manager 2! Our producer Joni has done a great job guiding the onboarding process, making sure everyone got up to speed with the project. Now, let’s introduce these nice folks to you guys!

Tim - Tech Artist
“Hi there! My job is to bring the game to life with cool effects, pretty lights, and behind-the-scenes tools that make everything run smoothly. Whenever you spot a cool effect or a bit of visual magic, there's a good chance I had a hand in it! I originally helped with the CCM2 Kickstarter trailer, and now I'm back on board to bring even more charm and polish to the full game!

I'm also an indie developer, creating my own games like the cozy Garden Buddies and my upcoming party game, Footsy! I love crafting experiences that spark joy, either through heartwarming moments or fun interactions. That’s why I can't wait for y'all to see what we're cooking up for Cat Cafe Manager 2!”

⭐ Mischa - 3D Artist
“Hello! My job is making sure the world of Cat Cafe Manager 2 will be filled with enough quirky little houses, crooked trees and other fun stuff for you to gaze upon during your cat-filled journeys. I am especially excited about the fact that a big part of this game is inspired by Dutch architecture and vibes, and I can't wait to fully immerse myself into the project. Aside from CCM2, I also spend time building my own little games. Additionally, I develop art for the upcoming auto-battler Become The Moon.”

⭐ Levi - Gameplay Programmer
“Hey! I am here to make sure the gameplay runs smoothly and the game functions as expected. Besides Cat Cafe Manager 2, I am a game developer working on projects for big commercial brands. One half of my heart is game dev, the other half is DnD! That’s why I also sell handmade DnD accessories like dice, dice trays, DM screens, and dice towers as a small business owner :D I can't wait to see what Cat Cafe Manager 2 will become and I'm so down for the ride!”

[h2]😻CCM1 In The Dutch National Archives![/h2]
Carmen and Joni visited the Dutch Institute for Audio- and Visual Media this week, to officially submit the first Cat Cafe Manager to the national archives of media. Additionally, Willem, the archivist, gave them a great tour past all kinds of childhood TV (and games!) memories!

January News: Kickstarter and development progress! 💚

We hope your first month of 2025 has been great!🩷 With January almost over, we would love to fill you in on everything new with the development of Cat Cafe Manager 2: Big City Bliss!

[h2]💚Kickstarter Updates[/h2]
This month, we officially closed late pledges for Kickstarter after collecting a total of €93,370 from 2,151 backers. Thank you so much everyone!💜

🧡Our producer Joni has been busy setting up an organized distribution system to prepare all physical rewards for shipment for Kickstarter backers. Both he and I (writer-social media manager Claire) put together and sent out cute sticker packages to last year’s giveaway winners! Additionally, we have some new sticker designs in the works for our Long Cat tier backers and up…👀 We’ll keep you in the loop!



[h2]😻Game development progress[/h2]
🚂Next Station… Game Development! Joni has also been making sure that the team's efforts for every department have successfully transitioned from working on the Kickstarter campaign to fully concentrating on game development. We’re happy to tell you that we’re all on track and are keeping up with the quality we want to achieve for CCM2!🔥

💛We have also asked our programmer Ernst to share what he's been working on the last couple of months. Take it away, Ernst!

"I mainly work with Unity, the engine we use to build the game. In the last couple of months, I have created the tools necessary to help the engine decide how non-playable characters and/or the world around them will come alive in different contexts within the CCM2 world.

These tools will, for example, decide when customers enter the café, which empty chair they will pick, what they want to order, how they spend their time waiting while the food is being prepared, how they enjoy their meal, which cats they want to cuddle with, and finally, when they want to leave (after paying you, of course!).

Additionally, I have also built a tool in the engine that allows players to leave the café and explore the town and its surroundings. Oh, and I developed speech bubbles that pop up above interactable items and characters when necessary! Fun stuff!”


(Quick example of how the speech bubble system works. Keep in mind that we still need to design the speech bubbles, the final result will look different!)

December News: 🎨 Cozy Sketches! And Happy Holidays! 💝

As we’re fast approaching the end of the year, we want to share 🎨a little peek behind the curtains to show you what our artists have been up to!

🎨Dev Update
Since our little break in October, we’ve been making really good progress on the development side and cannot wait to show you more soon! For now, we have asked our lead artist Carmen to share what the art department has been working on the past few weeks:

"What is the best way to set up an environment for a game such as Cat Cafe Manager 2? Go outside for inspiration! For the environments of Cat Cafe Manager 2, Esmeé and I took our sketchbooks, and went out and about to look for inspiration. We visited Gouda and Utrecht, two authentically Dutch cities with rich histories and cozy vibes.

Esmeé and I sketched and photographed several streets, squares, shops, and cafes there to capture that big city bliss. Besides these bustling cities, we took our bike to the Reeuwijkse Plassen to get a glance at what nature looks like just outside the city."



💚 Kickstarter update
We're super proud to have collected over 93k EUR from 2,137 backers over on Kickstarter, thanks so much! We've already started to deliver some of the digital rewards such as wallpapers. If you are not a backer and still want to get access to the exclusive rewards that are only available to backers, you have until the end of 2024 to back! Afterwards we will close late pledging and many of the Kickstarter-exclusive rewards will not be available anymore! Check them out here.

Our marketing strategist Irene, who joined the team early this year, has now officially become a member of the Roost Games cooperative!🎉 We’re super proud to see the cooperative grow and want to take a moment to congratulate Irene on this new position! Yay!!🩷

October News : Wrapping up the Kickstarter... Back to development!

Hello everyone!

We’re back from vacation, bursting with energy, and excited to start sending out Kickstarter rewards and continue working on Cat Cafe Manager 2! ✨

On Kickstarter, we managed to collect a whopping 88,957 EUR from 2,063 backers - thank you all SO SO much! With this money, we won't just be able to create the game of our dreams; we will also be in the position to add the following Stretch Goals: Customizing your cafe’s outside, Cat Connections, Romanceable NPCs, and Kittens! 😻



We also managed to unlock two extra hearts of the Community Goals with more than 2,000 Kickstarter backers and 400 TikTok followers, which means, we’ve unlocked the adorable 🍌 Banana cat hat!!


[h3]Update on CCM2 Development:[/h3]

Hi, a quick word from game designer Rick here! We spent the last couple of months fully focused on the Kickstarter campaign, making sure we could show you just how pretty the game is going to look. However, that also means it's been a while since we actually worked on its gameplay, which will be our main focus in the months to come! Programmer Ernst and I will be diving back into Unity, the engine we use to build our game in. Time to fire those game development ovens back up! 🧑‍🍳🔥



Ernst will focus his efforts on enhancing our development toolset, which will allow us to build the game more quickly and smoothly in the future. Rick will be planning the order of all gameplay elements so we can decide which ones should be built first. It's safe to say that these are super exciting times on the game development front! 👀

🌟 Last few hours of the Kickstarter! Next Stretch Goal: 😻Kittens!

Hello, we're approaching the end of the campaign and we have already reached the 70k€ stretch goal!!!! 🙀 😭

  • €50K unlocked: 🏪 Cafe Outside Customization
  • €60K unlocked: 🐱 Cat Connections
  • €70K unlocked: 💌 Romanceable NPCs

This means that a bunch of characters will become romanceable! Get ready for gift-giving, cute dates, and unique story content for each romanceable NPC! 💌 🥰



If we meet the next stretch goal at €80k (88,205 USD) we will include... Kittens in the game! 😻

🙀 These tiny furballs require a little more care than your average feline... but aren't they CUTE?

💪 Kittens start off with lower stats than most cats, but can become very good little kittens if you spend the time & resources to nurture them.

💖 If certain specific cats get close... your cat cafe might be blessed with a new kitten soon! Be sure to take good care of the parents, too!





We also wanted to share some details about the 🐟😻 Adopting stray cats mechanic!

🧭 Finding a stray cat for the first time will add it to your 📀 Cat-o-Dex.
Different strays will appear in different places. If you forget where you found one, you can easily check your Cat-o-Dex!

🌦️ Some strays will only appear under certain conditions, such as a specific time of day or weather. But don't worry, kind folks in town might give you hints on how to find rare stray cats!



Once you find a stray, you can approach them and start a 🐟😻 Stray Encounter!

These are turn-based encounters where each turn, you decide how to approach the stray. Try to win their Trust without startling them!

Petting a stray cat is a great way to earn lots of Trust, but it may cause them to get skittish and run away!

🥫 Most cats can't resist the allure of cat food. If they look ready to run, lure them back in with their favorite treat.

🐱 Some of your Cat Companions can also help! Having them cuddle and play with the stray can put the them at ease and win their Trust!

For this mechanic, we got inspired by the Pokémon safari zone and other pacifist turn-based RPGs. I hope you look forward to finding all the stray cats and winning their trust!

Finally, we're currently running a new pet contest on X/Twitter and on Discord! We will add one lucky pet to the game, in one way or another. To participate, you can send us your pet picture(s) on this X/Twitter thread or on Discord. We will pick the winner this weekend!
