It's been just over a month since we officially announced that Sniper Elite 5 will be launching simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Epic, Steam and Windows Store in the coming year.

What better way to celebrate with the Sniper Community than with the unveiling of a new CGI trailer for Sniper Elite 5 which hints at the brand new Invasion Mode, allowing players to drop into each other’s Campaign to take the role of an Axis Sniper and in return, earn high rewards.

Created by Rebellion’s dedicated production company Rebellion VFX, the new trailer utilises both in game and bespoke VFX assets with a tailored audio mix to create a stunning cinematic. Watch the trailer:

[h2]Invasion Mode[/h2]
Since we announced Sniper Elite 5, the Community have been hot on our heels for more top secret intel on the new optional game mode, and we don’t blame you soldiers!

Invasion Mode will bring a whole new dimension to the game’s intense drama and add increased diversity to the tactics that players will have to employ in order to complete their mission. The invading Axis Sniper will have the sole aim to eliminate the player while the Allied Sniper will gain an extra objective: take out the invader. Invasion Mode will also be available in co-operative play increasing the challenge for the Axis invader as they now have two Allies to track down, but offering greater rewards.

Invasion Mode will enable some unique skills for both players. The Axis invader can make use of the AI Axis forces to help locate the Allied player. Tagging an Axis soldier will enable ‘Eagle Eyes’ which means that if that soldier spots the Allied Sniper then their last known location will be displayed on the map. The Axis Sniper can also instruct nearby soldiers to ‘Stay Sharp’, increasing their awareness. For the Allied Sniper, each level has invasion phones scattered around the map which the player can use to discover the last known location of their opponent. But beware, as not only can these phones be booby trapped, but overuse will raise suspicions and reveal the player’s location.

Successful Axis Snipers will be rewarded with weapons, items and skin unlocks while Allied Snipers can earn weapon and character skins by killing their opponent. You will also be awarded with additional XP for having Invasion Mode enabled.

We are extremely excited to reveal the first look at the latest installment of our award-winning series, Sniper Elite 5, and delighted that so many of you will get to play it as it's launching simultaneously on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 4 & 5, Epic, Steam and Windows Store.

It was fantastic to see the player response to Sniper Elite 4 when it came to Steam back in 2017 – hopefully that has given you enough training to tackle your new mission when Sniper Elite 5 launches this year.

So what can we tell you about Sniper Elite 5?

Set in France in 1944, and with D-Day imminent, Sniper Elite 5 will see players reprise their role as elite marksman and SOE Operative, Lt. Karl Fairburne. Karl is attached to a covert US Ranger operation to provide Sniper support as they seek to weaken the Nazis’ Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany. However, stranded behind enemy lines, Karl is forced inland where he rendezvous with the French Resistance as they uncover a secret Nazi project that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe, codenamed Operation Kraken. It’s up to you to take out the high ranking Nazi officers in a bid to uncover the plans behind Operation Kraken and destroy it before it can begin.

Your battle against the Third Reich will take you across the largest, most interactive and immersive maps ever seen in the Sniper Elite series. Naturally it is extremely important to us that these areas, based upon real world locations, are as authentic as possible. Normally this process would involve numerous visits to collect information, reference imagery from the locations and generally get a sense of the area. Obviously the pandemic has placed great restrictions on travel in the last two years but we have been able to utilize some amazing photogrammetry, as well as our past location visits to create truly stunning environments.



We are also incredibly fortunate to work with some fantastic partners, such as the Imperial War Museum and Royal Armories. The information, insight and knowledge that they bring to the project are invaluable and help us to ensure that we are as authentic to the time and locations as we can be, while still ensuring that the game is an engaging, fun experience for our players. Key to that gameplay experience is the franchise’s unparalleled tactical sniping, complete with our authentic ballistics. New customization options allow you to personalize your rifle, other weapons and ammo to suit the mission and your play style. We think you are going to love it.

Since the long-awaited announcement of Sniper Elite 5, we have been blown away by the support we've received online. Whilst we'll endeavour to respond to as many of you as possible, there simply isn't a Command Centre in the world big enough to get back to you all! Sniper Elite HQ can however provide you with an additional piece of intel as an early Christmas gift, which should keep you going until the New Year.

One of the questions the Community has been asking most frequently is whether Rebellion's trademark X-ray kill cam will return in Sniper Elite 5. We're delighted to confirm that not only will it be making a comeback, but SMGs and pistols will now also trigger that oh-so satisfying slow motion recap. It will be more realistic and grisly than ever, so expect multiple bullet wounds and kill cams you'll want to brag about for weeks.

For added realism, your enemies' bones will deflect bullets unpredictably, ripping new paths through their varying body parts depending on the point of entry. Whilst we can't promise it will be pretty, we're confident the Sniper Elite Community will think it's a joy to behold when the time comes!
