Producer’s Creation Monologue on “Game of Fate”

Hello everyone,

I’m Drake, the producer of the “Game of Fate” series. Congratulations on the release and launch of “Game of Fate”, and it’s my great honor to present to you the trailer for “Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise”.

“Game of Fate” series started with a few small ideas from us, complete newcomers to the world of film-making. But these ideas evolved significantly during the actual filming of “Game of Fate 1”, where I witnessed talented actors and an excellent production team bringing the script to life in ways I hadn’t initially imagined.

After wrapping up “Game of Fate 1”, we decided to completely overhaul our plans for the sequel, committing three times the original budget to create a truly legendary story. To be honest, even this tripling of our budget is still considered a modest investment by industry standards, especially for film and gaming projects. In my 20-year career, I’ve seen projects funded at many multiples of “Game of Fate 2”'s budget. However, over the years, I’ve learned that money is not the deciding factor—it’s the time, passion, and emotion poured into the work. I’ve never invested so much of my creative spirit into a project, to the point where I am proud to call it my own creation.

And it’s not just me; the screenwriters, directors, actors, cinematographers, lighting technicians, producers, and the entire development team have put their hearts and souls into this project.

An industry friend once told me that first-person interactive films can never compare with true movies . But I think you’ll find a different answer in our trailer. The scenes shown are just a small glimpse of the many cinematic moments within. When we put our hearts into capturing these moments, even something as simple as a scene of eating a roasted sweet potato can be profoundly moving.

Set in the Republic era, “Game of Fate 2” required significant expansion of our production team to properly capture the weight of history. Our team is nearly ten times the size it was in the first installment. Especially with the cast—within the first five minutes alone, “Game of Fate 2” features more actors than the entirety of the first game. Several large scenes involve hundreds of cast and crew members. For the climactic scene, over a hundred people spent a full 16 hours filming a 20-minute single-take sequence.

I must extend my deepest thanks to our lead actors. Here, they are not idols but actors with the power to truly immerse the audience. For example, in the trailer's opening scene, Miss. Fang (played by Zhong Chenyao) delivers a passionate speech after an assassination at the Paramount Dance Hall. The scene was incredibly chaotic due to the number of people present, and we were unable to capture the dialogue’s sound on set. Later, we spent four hours in a recording studio trying to recreate the space’s natural reverberation, working well into the night without success. The next day, Zhong Chenyao suggested that during a break, she re-perform the scene alone in the same hall. She felt that only by being in that environment could she bring out the authenticity of the performance. It only took a few takes for her to surpass the emotion of her original performance on set.

There was also a prison scene filmed in a stuffy cell, from 9 a.m. until late at night. All the food props spoiled (some had backups, but others, freshly made, didn’t). Despite the intense conditions, the cast repeated the scenes over and over to get the best take. Many times, both the director and I felt the scene was done, only for Zhong Chenyao to ask, “Can we do one more?” Such dedication was a common occurrence throughout filming, all in pursuit of capturing that perfect moment.

This infectious passion led to a surge of inspiration one late night on set, resulting in a newly scripted scene: a heartfelt letter written by one of the characters, which the actor personally penned on set. I believe that when you see this moment in the final work, you’ll understand my emotions at that moment.

If the trailer resonates with you, that’s the greatest affirmation for us as creators. I am so proud of every one of you.
