It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Oortmas!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. There’ll be Cuttletrunks honking and meteorites glowing when group hunts are near!

Boundless will be getting into the festive mood from 1200 UTC on the 17th December for two weeks, ending on the 31st December. The Known Worlds of Boundless will be experiencing seasonally-appropriate snowy conditions, and the local wildlife will be wrapping up warm in their traditional Oortmas hats.

For those of you who have yet to be visited by the Ghost of Oortmas past, let’s recap just how the Boundless universe changes over the holiday season. Those Oortmas creatures will drop extra-special Green Candy Canes. These are then used to craft decorative Gift Boxes, and festive Oortmas trees with which to decorate your builds.

What’s new for 2020?

As always, we have some new props to share this year. We have two brand new festive centrepieces with which you can decorate your beacons - Roasted Spitter for the meat eaters, and an Earthyam platter for vegetarian citizens.

We’ve got some very cool new goodies coming to the Exchange for a limited time only. These are the Snowflakes Body Paint, and two wearables - the Snowglobe and the Guiding Star.

Another major change over this time of year is the introduction of the famous Snowball Meteorites. Let’s go over how those work again…

Snowball Meteorites 101

For the duration of the Winter Event, special Snowball Fight Meteorite events will occur on Starter Worlds. Rather than a regular strike, a giant Snowball will crash to the surface of the World, bringing with it a swarm of special Snow Spitters, which will launch their chilly projectiles at Citizens, and are impervious to regular Weapons.

You’ll have to fight snow with snow! Gather enough Ice from the Meteorite to Handcraft a Bag of Snowballs, and give the icy critters everything you’ve got! These will do direct damage to one target, and are only effective against Snow Spitters. There will also be no Defeat Penalty on these events, with Players instead building up ‘embarrassment’ from being hit, before heading to the sanctum having lost their ‘Meteorite Life’. As well as Red Candy Canes the rewards for these Snowball Fights include Food, Brews and Gifts. Poorly behaved Citizens may end up with Coal…

What else is coming?

Red Candy Canes are used to craft Snow Citizens and Twinkles, giving your beacon some festive cheer for the winter. Elsewhere, our previous Oortmas wearables are back in the exchange for two weeks only, with the Father Oortmas beards, with the Oortmas Hat and three designs of Winter Scarf all returning from last year, and 2018’s Rudolph the Red Nosed Wildstock antlers and Snow Citizen mask joining them on sale once again.

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for special Candy Seeds, which are planted to grow the Candy Totem tool as a crop. Not to forget Oorty!

There’s a lot to see and do at Oortmas, and we’ve had great fun getting stuck into the snowball fights with you all down the years, so we’ll see you there for another round!

Halloween Has Come To Boundless!

It’s that wonderful time of year again, when the nights are getting darker, and things are getting a little bit spookier. We’re excited to unveil Halloween 2020 in Boundless!

From 1200 UTC on the 29th October, until the same time on the 12th November, citizens will once again be on the hunt for Spooky Orbs around the Boundless Universe. These are then used to craft Spooky Seeds and all the spooktastic props! This includes returning favourites such as the Pumpkin and Skull Lanterns, as well as the original version of Oorty the Oortling Doll! Of course, we’ve got some new additions to the festivities this year, including the spooky Cauldron prop, and the creepy hanging Bat, grown as a crop upside-down from the ceiling!

Most excitingly, there are 6 brand new Halloween Brews with various themed effects, all of which crafted in the Mixer using Spooky Orbs.
Kraken Brew: Grants the consumer double the air when exploring underwater.
Zombie Lungs Brew: Will give +2 atmosphere protection to all atmospheres when consumed.
Mummy Brew: Sets the weather to Clear for the consumer.
Yeti Brew: Sets the weather to Snowy for the consumer.
Nessie Brew: Sets the weather to Rainy for the consumer.
Gravekeeper’s Brew: Sets the weather to Foggy for the consumer.

We’ve also got some new wearables in the exchange, joining previous year’s offerings such as the Cuttlehugger mask, Oh My Button Eyes, Spiderina and more. We’ve also got two brand new Body Paints we’re really excited about. These were designed by some extremely creative community members, and we can’t wait to see them in the game! Big thanks to GeorgeGroeg and Apt for those.

Of course, we’ve also got a brand new sanctum for you all to enjoy during these two weeks. One of our very talented community members has made this, and it’s really something special!

Throughout the game, players will once again be greeted by special lighting conditions at night, horrifying weather effects, and spooky soundscape to really put you in the Halloween spirit!

Don’t get too afraid out there!

Sovereign + Creative Worlds, Dance Emotes, Unique Emoji, and more!

Hello folks,

Good news, the latest update to Boundless is now LIVE!

The release has just rolled out, so once your game has updated, it’ll be yours to explore. The headline feature is undoubtedly the long-awaited release of Sovereign and Creative Worlds. Elsewhere, we’ve got a great new batch of unique Emoji, themed around the Boundless universe, a set of Dance Emotes for Gleam Club members, and our time-limited Boundless Birthday celebrations!

Those of you who are ready to purchase your very own Sovereign World can more detail on exactly how Sovereign Worlds work, and how to purchase one, in the full FAQ here.

Our newest batch of Emoji is themed around the Boundless universe, with new symbols for many Creatures, Tools, and Resources are now available to be used straight away. These follow the same rules and conventions as every other Emoji. We can’t wait to see the creative uses you all put them to! I’m thinking of a fish tank of Cuttletrunks, or a whole new kind of shop sign that can be seen for miles around.

As of this update, Gleam Club members can strut their stuff with a whole new batch of Dance Emotes. Dab, Can-Can, or some good old fashioned Air Guitar - there’s plenty to choose from!

Elsewhere, we’ve addressed several ‘Quality of Life’ issues, including some to do with Feats/Achievements. To get the full rundown, we’ll have the full patch notes out very soon, which we’ll add here.

Those of you who have been around for some time may be aware that Boundless is currently celebrating its second birthday! September 2018 was the official launch of the full Boundless universe, and we’ve loved sharing every moment with you all since then.

To mark the occasion, we’re going to be celebrating in a number of ways within Boundless.

Several creatures around the Known Worlds will be sporting some funky little party hats. Defeat these critters to gather Birthday Gift drops, used to craft some exciting new seasonal drops. Of course, we’ll also be sharing a brand new wearable available from the Exchange too. As an extra present, we've made all previous event wearables available again, so now's the perfect time to catch up on any Halloween or Oortmas outfits you missed out on in the past!

Once again, we’d like to thank all our players who have been a massive part of the Boundless world since launch. We couldn’t have done it without you!

See you in there everyone.

Release 244 - Gleambow Racing, Stability, and Smarter Stacks

We are pleased to Release 244 with you all! You can see the full, detailed patch notes in James’ post over here

TL:DR We’ve focused heavily on stability and Quality of Life changes for this release, and content-wise, the main focus is on the new Gleambow Racing release!

We’ve made some fixes we’ve wanted to turn our attention to for a while, including the way smart stacks behave.

Hopefully, you’ll have been following our reveals and teasers on social media over the past week or so, but let’s get it all in one place.

How to Play Gleambow Racing

On Rugged and Inhospitable Lush worlds, all Meteorites are replaced by Gleambow Meteorites. A Gleambow is a unique type of meteorite made from natural Blocks in a variety of colours. They can be identified by their spectacular multicoloured trails. If you’re lucky, you may even find a pure Gleam or Glass Gleambow. Fancy!

Once a Gleambow touches down, you’ll only have a short time before its Blocks adopt the natural colours of the World. Sprint, Grapple, Warp, slide, leap, swim and Buff your way across the landscape before it’s too late.

You’ll need specialised Tools to break your way through those super-tough Gleambow Blocks. A Gleambow Totem will do the trick, so make sure to get hold of one (or more). While you’re at it, keep an eye out for some strangely colourful Cuttletrunks, aptly known as Gleamtrunks, who’ll try to make life difficult. Don’t ignore them! You might find their pickings useful for your next race and more.

Tweak your Skills, grab your Gleambow Totem, down a Speed Brew - ready, set, Gleambow!

This time, the customary Gleamtrunks are no mere annoyance! They’ll drop Mutated Gleam Sacs once defeated, which can be crafted into new food items to provide 3 exciting new buffs!

Gleamberry Juice significantly increases the radius of your character’s pickups. This ‘magnet’ effect will be tremendously helpful with all gathering tasks. The Gleambow Jelly bestows the super fun ‘Jelly Jump’ buff, which boosts your jump and double jump height to incredible levels. This also reduces all fall damage for the duration of the buff.

Last but not least, the Gleampop will give Citizens the ability to walk on water, leaving a colourful trail of ice behind them! We can’t wait to see groups of keep Gleambow hunters, racing across the landscape with huge leaps and leaving icy trails behind them.

Elsewhere, we’ve got a brand new wearable, the Gleambubbler, which provides a fun visual effect around your character as they emit a stream of bubbles. This can be picked up in The Exchange as always.

Two brand new props are here for you to enjoy too! Perennial favourite Oorty gets a funky makeover, and there’s a shiny new Gleambow Trophy to show off in your Beacon.

If you just can’t seem to catch a Gleambow … then why not summon one! Our brand new Gleambow Augment can be fitted to a totem, then fired into the sky to spawn a Gleambow.

We’re super excited for this round of Gleambow Racing, and we hope you all are too! See you in there folks!

Release 242: Beacon Reclaims, Glass Pane Signs, and Compactness are here

Hey folks,

You’ll be pleased to hear that we’re just rolling out another update to Boundless! Those of you who have tried out the latest testing version will be familiar with what’s coming, but let’s go over it all here;

First up is the new Beacon Reclaim system we’ve implemented. From now on, when a beacon expires, the contents won’t be simply lost, but instead will be stored within the beacon itself ready to be reclaimed by the owner. The aim of the beacon system is not to punish players, but to protect land. This will provide a safety net for those unfortunate accidents when a beacon is allowed to expire.

A side effect of this is the new Spark item - any unused Spark in the beacon will be converted to a new Item, which can be bought and sold as normal.

It’s important to note that Beacons still need to be fuelled, and that the beacon expiry system is otherwise unchanged.

We’ve also introduced a new range of signs, with Glass Pane Signs now useable. Further to this, those citizens with Gleam Club membership can now use Emojis on all their signs.

After some time on testing, we’re now implementing the Beacon Compactness rules. These will ensure that players aren’t able to work around plotting restrictions, and have been described at length over here;

If you’d like the video rundown, then as always here’s Jiivita with the report (s);

And if you’re looking for a more technical breakdown of the update, then James’ full patch notes are over here;

As always, there’s a lot more to come from Boundless, and we’re already hard at work on the next exciting update. In the meantime, enjoy this latest release!
