Development Log #20

[p]Welcome once again to the weekly Development Log for Lionhearts, an up-and-coming project on Steam created using Unreal Engine 5.[/p][p][/p][p]This week, the programming team made significant strides in polishing the foundation of multiplayer. [/p][p][/p][p]Early in testing, a number of critical issues were discovered, including severe jitter in client movement replication, missing combat sound replication, global footstep audio, crashes when parries succeeded, and Quick-Play failing to locate matches.[/p][p][/p][p]Over the course of the week, these issues were fixed, resulting in a far smoother and more stable multiplayer experience.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]With those resolved, the team’s focus now shifts to tackling new challenges uncovered in the latest build, such as occasional inconsistencies in hit registration between client and server, blocking not properly affecting walkspeed, and certain UI effects like “Guard Break” and “Parried” not always replicating correctly.[/p][p][/p][p]The level design team also made strong progress this week, moving from the blockout phase into detailed work on the Jaffa Tournament Map.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, the 3D animation team completed the new sheathe animation, adding fluidity and immersion to weapon handling.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Meanwhile, the 3D art team began building key assets for the Jaffa Tournament Map, including banners, grandstands, counter-tilts, and the lists, bringing the medieval tournament atmosphere closer to life.[/p][p][/p][p]If you haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, our Kickstarter campaign is now accepting late pledges! [p]Welcome once again to the weekly Development Log for Lionhearts, an up-and-coming project on Steam created using Unreal Engine 5.[/p][p][/p][p]This week, the team made significant strides on Lionhearts: Colosseum.[/p][p][/p][p]The programming team completed combat replication, with clashes, staggers, and other reaction effects properly synchronizing across clients for smooth multiplayer gameplay.[/p][p][/p][p]Much of the week was spent planning and restructuring the Colosseum’s blueprint and code architecture, laying the groundwork for future features.[/p][p][/p][p]Work also began on a Database API to streamline saving and validating player data and progression.[/p][p][/p][p]Additionally, the 3D art team completed a new scabbard model for the one-handed sword (arming sword), and the animation team brought it to life with new sheathe and unsheathe animations alongside fluid, simulated scabbard movement.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Meanwhile, the level design team kicked off initial blockout for the Jaffa Tournament Map, marking the start of the next major environment for Colosseum.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]These updates continue to push the multiplayer demo closer to a polished, playable state.[/p][p][/p][p]If you haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, our Kickstarter campaign is now accepting late pledges! [p]Welcome once again to the weekly Development Log for Lionhearts, an up-and-coming project on Steam created using Unreal Engine 5.[/p][p][/p][p]Development on Lionhearts: Colosseum continued at a strong pace this week with some major strides.[/p][p][/p][p]A new server browser was implemented, allowing players to create and join matches, as well as disconnect from lobbies when needed.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Logic was also added to automatically remove players if the host leaves, ensuring smoother multiplayer sessions.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Combat replication saw important fixes to keep gameplay consistent across clients.[/p][p][/p][p]Graphics settings UI was fully integrated and made dynamic, changing overall quality now adjusts individual settings, while tweaking individual options sets the overall preset to “Custom.”[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Our game design team also began work on some early concept art mockups and references of our first Colosseum map.[/p][p][/p][p]These updates bring us closer to a polished and seamless multiplayer experience as Colosseum development moves forward.[/p][p][/p][p]If you haven’t gotten a chance to check it out yet, our Kickstarter campaign is now accepting late pledges! Development Log #17

After kicking off development on Lionhearts: Colosseum, our upcoming multiplayer combat demo, the team made steady progress this week on both backend tooling and core combat replication.

All animations and combat states now properly replicate across the network, an important step for ensuring smooth and consistent PvP gameplay.[/p][p][/p][p]

Work has also begun on replicating combat attacks and damage logic to support functional and responsive duels between players.[/p][p]

[p]Welcome once again to the weekly Development Log for Lionhearts, an up-and-coming project on Steam created using Unreal Engine 5.[/p][p][/p][p]After a successful Kickstarter campaign and the release of our pre-alpha Visual Demo, the team took a much-needed break last week to recharge.[/p][p][/p][p]This week, we're excited to be back and looking ahead to our next big milestone: Lionhearts: Colosseum, our upcoming multiplayer combat demo.[/p][p][/p][p]Development has already begun, and this week our technical department made some foundational progress.[/p][p][/p][p]We’ve officially decided to use Steam’s native peer-to-peer networking solution for Colosseum and began prototyping session hosting and replication for character movement and actions.[/p][p][/p][p]We also experimented with implementing different parry animation styles! One is more cinematic, while the other is faster and gameplay focused as we begin tuning the feel of PvP combat.[/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p]Meanwhile, Kickstarter backer Discord rewards have started rolling out! We’re created unique icons for each role live in the server.
