HorrorCore: Maze And Pools of Horror News

Almost 1000 units sold & HorrorCore 2 & demo update

Hello,

Almost 1,000 people have had the chance to play HorrorCore. Thank you for supporting my work! This is my first game to stir emotions among gamers, and even crazier horrors are on the way... There will also be a sequel, HorrorCore 2. Sequels, updates, DLC to my other games will appear later when I publish 20 games on Steam (current: 17/20 games). The HorrorCore sequel will follow the story of another photographer investigating the mysterious Forgotten Halls painting, with connections to the first game.

I also updated the demo. I was planning to do it earlier, but couldn't :P... Anyway, the demo is currently the same as the full version. There will be updates for HorrorCore (full version) in the future (even if I am not active on the forum leave feedback in the forum, comment, review etc.), but the demo might not receive further updates.

Dive into a dark, claustrophobic world strange puzzles and terrifying moments. Check out the demo and see what awaits you in the full version of the game. Be careful, every second could be your last. The demo includes 2 levels and 3 modes.

The new update is now available: 1.3.7 (new options, creature, etc.).

Hello,

This time, I focused on improving gameplay, technical fixes, new content, and enhanced sound and visual effects.
Gameplay Improvements & New Features
Faster movement in water
If you're in the water and press "SHIFT" (default), your character will move slightly faster. This subtle yet significant change allows for better control in claustrophobic, flooded corridors and increases your chances of escaping danger.

Option to disable the VHS effect
Not every player enjoys film grain and VHS-style post-processing. I have added an option to disable this effect in the settings, so you can adjust the game’s visuals to your preference.
Level Changes & Enhancements
Level 1 (Museum) – Trap after the first photo
After taking the first photo, you will trigger a trap—forcing you to act quickly and carefully from that moment on. This adds extra tension and makes every camera click a potentially fatal decision.

Level 3 – New creature & atmospheric upgrades

  1. A new, previously unknown monster has been added, increasing the element of surprise.
  2. Visual and audio changes intensify the tension on this level.
  3. New lighting effects, improved shadows, and enhanced audio immersion make every second in this location unsettling.
Technical Updates & Optimization
Full support for multiple platforms
The update is available for all system versions: Windows 64-bit, Windows 32-bit, Linux 64-bit, and Mac 64-bit. This means the improved version of the game now runs more smoothly and stably on every platform.

Linux optimization
I have implemented compatibility fixes for Linux users, removing issues that could cause instability and improving performance on this platform.

Bug fixes & improvements from the previous update
Several graphical issues from the last version have been fixed. Additionally, minor animation and interaction bugs have been resolved, ensuring a better overall experience.
Localization – Major Language Update
1. A thorough update of all supported language translations. Many errors have been fixed, missing phrases added, and the translations refined to better capture the game's atmosphere.
  2. Translation improvements include Japanese, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Bengali, Basque, and many others.
Audio Enhancements – A New Horror Experience
New character sounds
New sound effects for the protagonist have been added—from breathing to fear reactions—making every moment of tension even more immersive.

Reworked pain sounds
The old pain sound has been replaced with a new recording that better conveys the character’s emotions, making every moment of suffering feel more realistic.
Other Changes & Fixes
1. Additional improvements for smoother and more stable gameplay.
  2. UI elements refined for better readability.
  3. Minor bugs removed to improve the overall experience.

A big thank you to all players for your feedback, bug reports, and support. Thanks to you, HorrorCore is getting even better. Explore carefully and don’t trust what you see...

Big Update: Monster Improvements, Navigation, Flash Flicker Tweaks & More

Hello!

A new update is available! To download it, please restart your Steam client. As a solo developer, I need a bit more time for updates. Thanks for your suggestions and feedback—I’ve implemented things you mentioned on the forum, in videos, or via private messages.

Gameplay and Horror Improvements
  1. Increased probability of monster attacks in "Normal Game" mode – To increase the difficulty level, the probability of monster attacks has been raised on specific levels. This change makes the game more intense and engaging, requiring more attention and preparation. The "Adventure" mode (no monsters) and "HorrorCore" mode (the highest number of monsters) remain unchanged, allowing players to choose their preferred challenge level.

  2. Added new navigation hints – Additional bloody arrows have been added that appear when an area is illuminated, indicating the correct path. Additionally, some areas now have more light, significantly improving navigation in dark locations and enhancing the overall gameplay experience, especially in more complex levels.

  3. Improved "Disable Flash Flicker" option – Optimized how this feature works. When flickering is turned off, the flash now stays on briefly and fades out slowly, giving the player extra time to look around. This subtle change enhances immersion by eliminating distracting flickering that could divert attention at crucial moments.

    Flash flicker disabled:

  4. Extended default flash duration – The default flash duration has been increased from 0.3s to 1s, allowing players to explore locations without feeling rushed. This also provides a better opportunity to notice details and hidden elements in the environment.

    Default option:

  5. Added option to disable voice-over dialogues – More flexibility has been introduced in the audio settings, allowing players to choose between disabling only voices or muting dialogues entirely. This feature gives greater control over how players experience the story and the extent to which they immerse themselves in narrative audio elements.

  6. Reduced volume of certain sound effects by 30% – Adjusted the volume of sound effects to avoid excessive loudness, which could interfere with other audio elements like music or dialogue. This change aims to create a more balanced sound environment.

  7. Added shutter sound volume control – A new option has been introduced, allowing players to lower or increase the volume of the shutter sound, enabling a customized experience based on personal preferences.

    Lower shutter volume:

Optimization and Performance
  1. Increased FPS and performance improvements – Several optimizations have been made to improve game performance. These adjustments have increased the frame rate (FPS) by 5%-25%, ensuring smoother gameplay and minimizing lag, especially on lower-end PCs.

  2. Reduced RAM usage – Thanks to optimizations, the game now uses less RAM, improving stability, especially during longer play sessions when system resources may be heavily utilized.

Technical Updates
  1. Support for new platforms – The game has been updated to support Windows 64-bit, Windows 32-bit, Mac 64-bit (Intel64 + Apple Silicon), and Linux 64-bit. This makes the game accessible to a broader audience, regardless of their operating system.

  2. Fixes for levels 2 and 3 – Various fixes have been implemented for levels 2 and 3, improving both gameplay and visual quality. Players will notice improved navigation and better-balanced challenges on these levels.

  3. Minor gamepad improvements – Enhanced support for gamepads, eliminating small bugs that could occur when playing with a controller. The game now runs more smoothly on all compatible controllers.

  4. Minor graphical improvements – Small adjustments have been made to some graphical elements, improving the visual quality of the game, especially on older devices.

  5. Minor animation improvements – Small refinements have been made to monster animations to make their movements smoother, such as on level 2.

Other
  1. Demo is ready and awaiting Valve approval – The game demo has been completed and is awaiting approval from Valve, allowing a wider audience to experience the game before its full release.

  2. Various small fixes – A range of minor fixes has been made to enhance the overall gameplay experience, making it more stable and player-friendly.

More updates will be coming soon! Let me know on the forum if you’re missing any features. For example, I could add an option for the camera to function as a flashlight.
