FreshWomen - Season 2 News

Hey!

We’ve made a few more adjustments to Julia’s hair and added physics so we can finally show you how it moves. It’s still a work in progress, but you can already get a good feel for what’s coming. Pretty cool, right?

Simon now has sideburns.


Last week we worked on new characters, and some of them are already close to final.

Our artists are still tweaking Maximillian’s outfit, but his main look is already well defined.

One of the artists on our team worked on Julia to replicate her hair in Particles. I particularly liked the result because it looked less artificial and more natural, with waves at the ends of the strands, but I want to know what you think:

The same thing is happening with Simon, but in his hair, the artist pulled the guides directly from the Hair Cards mesh, maintaining the proportion and shape of the strands.

We have several scenarios being completed, and viewing these scenarios in their entirety is always unclear. Talking to f1r3, he suggested that we do a fly cam in these new scenarios to facilitate understanding of the environment and be able to predict the scenes before they go into production.

We also tested a new preset to optimize rendering time. The intention is to make the process more efficient, allowing us to explore increasingly better animations.

This render would take approximately 95 minutes to render, but in the new preset test it took only 15 minutes.

I always felt like there was a lack of primary volumes in the characters' mouths, they were always very smooth, even with normal maps using high values the details were discreet, and I asked my colleague to make some displacement maps in zbrush for the lips, we had some interesting results as you can see above.

Working on this character made me think about how important character consistency is when it's bad, and it seems a bit bad to me to stick to the past in some cases and certain characters, below is a comparison of adjustments made to her:
