Total War: Warhammer is free on Epic this week

This week's big free game on the Epic Games Store might have two sequels by now, but it's still a good'un: it's Total War: Warhammer. You have one week to claim the start of Creative Assembly's strategy trilogy set in Games Workshop's fantasy world of WH0K. Epic have also brought back a previous freebie, the first-person stabber City Of Brass. A tidy haul for the small price of using the Epic Games Store.

Total War: Warhammer 3 delayed, will now release in early 2022

Developer Creative Assembly announced via Twitter that the hotly anticipated Total War: Warhammer 3 will now be released in early 2022, marking a delay for the strategy game that previously was scheduled to come out this year.

In a statement, Creative Assembly shifted the release window for the latest entry in the strategy series in order to make for ā€œa stronger release and the best first step into a new era for Total War: Warhammer.ā€

All this is in service to making the best Total War: Warhammer experience the developer can. "We don't consider this release the end of our trilogy, but the start of years of content and support as we continue to bring the jaw-dropping scale of Games Workshop's fantasy universe to Total War."

Total Warhammer is coming to mobile devices

If you just can't get enough of Total War: Warhammer - and heaven knows, we sure can't - then we have good news: soon you'll be able to play your favourite fantasy strategy game franchise right on your phone. Total War Battles: Warhammer is a mobile version of Total War: Warhammer's massive RTS battles, and it'll be opening up to beta testers in the near future.

Developer NetEase (which is also developing Blizzard's Diablo Immortal for mobile) announced Total War Battles: Warhammer today with a YouTube video that shows off some gameplay. A few well-known legendary lords make appearances: here's the White Dwarf Grombrindal, there's the Empire's Balthasar Gelt. There's a little footage of a strategic layer, which features a reworked city and settlement system on a more stylized map, likely to make the game more readable on small mobile screens.

The focus, however, is clearly on the large-scale RTS battles. The footage is marked as 'early alpha' and not indicative of the final product, so take what you're about to see with a grain of salt. That said, it does look mighty impressive - monstrous ogres, charging cavalry, and deadly siege weapons all feature in the battlefield footage.
