However a non-Hollow Knight game from Team Cherry might look, there's a particular through line you can still expect


Right now, Team Cherry's future is pretty unclear. There is some kind of Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC that'll be coming somewhere along the line, but understandably the developer is keeping their cards close to their chest in terms of what's actually next. They certainly do have some ideas on how they would expand Hollow Knight, i.e. by not making any direct sequels, much like how Silksong isn't one. But in a recent interview, Team Cherry spoke (ever so slightly) more openly about their own future and how the thing that might get in their way most is, well, death.

Who knows if we'll ever get another Hollow Knight, but if we do, you can expect it to be as standalone as Silksong


Let's get something real clear here right off the bat: I couldn't possibly tell you if Team Cherry are planning to make any more Hollow Knight games. That isn't to say there isn't more Hollow Knight on the way, as Silksong will be getting… something, at some point, in the future. However! Studio heads William Pellen and Ari Gibson have at least floated a hypothetical idea around how the world of Hollow Knight might get bigger.

Miss the Knight from OG Hollow Knight? There's a Silksong mod that'll solve your little bug blues


Throughout my time playing Hollow Knight: Silksong, I mostly didn't actually miss the first game's not-so-titular Knight. I do love that bug, it's just Hornet made for quite a compelling protagonist (even if I think that the game has a number of issues that go further than just it being potentially unfairly hard). I doubt this will be a universal feeling however, which is where this handy mod where you can once again play as the Knight, but in Silksong, comes into play.

HandowShandowed on YouTube is indulging in the latter, with multiple video uploads showing them playing Hollow Knight and Silksong at the same time, synced to one controller...

The miniature Metroidvania Hollow Knight creeps onto PC and Mac on February 24

After a few delays from its initial June 2015 release window back when it was funded via Kickstarter, the creepy-crawly Metroidvania Hollow Knight is set to launch on Steam at the end of the month. Tasking you as the titular Hollow Knight, players must delve into the kingdom of Hallownest to discover why villagers and explorers from your home have suddenly gone missing when exploring the remains of this once great civilization.
