After almost four years in development, Dark Souls 3 mod Archthrones is set to release a demo on March 15th. If you were unaware of said mod, it's a Patron-funded expansion that puts Dark Souls 3 on an alternate storyline in a way akin to Demon Souls, with a hub area home to five gateways that'll transport you to five worlds. If there was ever a reason to return to Dark Souls 3, this is probably it.
As if playing through one of FromSoftware's many enormous, secret-filled, and tough as nails action games wasn't fulfilling enough already, enterprising modders have been hard at work creating a wildly in-depth new project meant to give players a fresh spin on the Dark Souls series. Dark Souls: Archthrones is a sprawling fan prequel to Dark Souls 3 that's been long in the making and has just announced the launch date for its first demo - all the better to help make the wait for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree a little easier to take.

Dark Souls 3 is the last RPG game to come out of FromSoftware's iconic trilogy, predating newer fan favorites such as Elden Ring. It isn't hard to understand why the third installment was so well-received, from its dreary yet captivating setting to its punishing yet rewarding combat system. Many of us have long-awaited another worthy contender for the greatest soulslike experience within the series, and we could get one thanks to this upcoming Dark Souls 3 mod known as Archthrones.
