Steamdeck Support Update

[p][/p][previewyoutube][/previewyoutube][p]
Hey![/p][p]I’ve had a bunch of comments asking whether the game runs on the Steam Deck, and personally I’ve really wanted this too! The game feels like a great fit for a handheld device. It’s taken a bit of work, but I’m pretty happy with how it runs now, so I wanted to make a quick post explaining a few details.[/p][p][/p][p]The first challenge was that Patterns of the Oak requires very precise input, perfect for a mouse, but less accurate with a joystick. So I implemented some features to make this a little smoother. It takes some practice, but I feel like it works well on gamepad & the Steamdeck now.[/p][p][/p][p]The Steam Deck also has touch input, which is also a great fit for our game! There is a “but” here though. I’ve found that the newer OLED models are super responsive, but the older LCD screens seem to have some input delay, which makes it very difficult to play with touch. I’ll continue to look into the issue, but it does make me wonder if it’s just down to the hardware, which would be unfortunate.[/p][p][/p][p]I’d love to know what you think![/p][p][/p][p]Thanks,[/p][p]

Patterns of the Oak is OUT NOW!

[p]Hi everyone, our game is officially OUT TODAY! 🎉[/p][p][/p][p]Watch Youtube Video[/p][p][/p][p]We’re two devs who started out with a simple design idea years ago, and to now be releasing a world we’ve created feels surreal. Our unique take on the deckbuilder genre is deeply personal, with the story rooted in ancient British myths of druids battling Roman invaders, but with the occasional mech or bit of necromancy thrown in for good measure… It's certainly our own twist on history.[/p][p][/p][p]If you love deck-builder roguelikes with hand drawn art, rapid decision making, a high skill ceiling, and if you can celebrate landing a spell at the last possible moment (or have a back-up plan when you miss the final node of a combo by a heartbeat), this is just the game for you.[/p][p][/p][p]Main Features:[/p]
  • [p]Master three decks of spells, with many new spells to be discovered via the shops along the way.[/p]
  • [p]5 bosses, each with a unique way to bring your run to an end.[/p]
  • [p]Many artifacts, which can be scaled up to increase their effects.[/p]
  • [p]Rare mythic artifacts with powerful abilities to alter how a whole run will progress.[/p]
  • [p]A range of difficulties that suit beginners right up to Gods.[/p]
  • [p]Intuitive design, with symbols and keywords meaning limited reading is required.[/p]
[p][/p][p]We can’t thank you enough for following along while we tried to make something unique, satisfying, and capable of delivering more joy and despair in under a minute than just about anything else out there. Now it’s finally yours, and it’s time to dive in, experiment, break the game, and hopefully have as much fun playing it as we did making it.[/p][p][/p][p]See you on the next run,[/p][p][/p][p]Sam and Beau[/p]
