FF14 and 16 composer Soken would need "two bodies" to tackle Final Fantasy 17

Masayoshi Soken has earned himself a reputation as one of the most iconic composers in videogames. Over more than a decade working with FF14, his name has become almost as synonymous with the series as the legendary Nobuo Uematsu, and that success led him to take on the role as lead composer for Final Fantasy 16. When I asked him whether he'd repeat the challenge of handling two games at the same time in the future, however, he was adamant that he'd "never want to do anything like that again."

FF14 composer Soken reveals which Final Fantasy he feels the MMORPG is lacking

The new FF14 Dawntrail raid series is just the latest success story for the man who's become known as the MMORPG's not-so-secret weapon. Masayoshi Soken has earned a reputation for his incredible composition work, and he and his team are in full form in the latest Final Fantasy 14 update. Ahead of the recent Distant Worlds concerts in London, I had the privilege to sit down with Soken and discuss how he approaches adopting legacy soundtracks and which Final Fantasy game he feels is most underrepresented in FF14.

Patch 7.2 is live!

We are proud to present the patch notes for Seekers of Eternity, which follows the Warrior of Light's encounter with the returned Queen of Reason as Alexandria descends into unrest, and features the new trial, Recollection, along with the new raid dungeon, the Arcadion: Cruiserweight Division.

The patch also sees the reintroduction of the Borderland Ruins (Secure) for Frontline, updates to group pose depth of field effects, and a host of other additions and adjustments.

* Additional features will be implemented in future updates:

Cosmic Exploration and Tool Enhancement Quests - Cosmic Tools are scheduled to release in Patch 7.21.
Mamool Ja Allied Society Quests, the Occult Crescent, Weapon Enhancement Quests - Phantom Weapons, Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures sidequests are scheduled to release in Patch 7.25.

FF14 patch notes confirm rumored Black Mage changes, and they're divisive

My first ever FF14 character was a Black Mage. Enticed by the allure of elemental magic having played everything from Ice Mage to Shadow Priest in World of Warcraft, it felt like the perfect fit. As I pulled up to Ul'dah and Sultana Dreaming began to play, I knew that Eorzea was something special. But as of late I've found myself drifting away from spellcasters, and Black Mage specifically, favoring Monk and Ninja over ranged DPS. But, as spotted by eagle-eyed fans during the last Live Letter and now confirmed in the latest round of FF14 patch notes, Black Mage has been reworked considerably, splitting the playerbase down the middle.
