FFXIV is getting another Deep Dungeon

At the present moment, there are only two Final Fantasy XIV Deep Dungeons in the entire game - giant, multi-layered roguelite experiences that can be a real challenge to get through. According to director Naoki Yoshida, though, a new Deep Dungeon is being added in an update before the game's next big expansion.

A lot of Final Fantasy XIV players have been asking for more Deep Dungeon challenges for a long time now. There are only two in the MMO right now - Heaven-on-High and Palace of the Dead - and the most recent was added in patch 4.35 as part of the Stormblood expansion run back in 2018.

Now, four years later, it finally seems like Square Enix is ready to start giving players more Deep Dungeon roguelite challenges - and by the sounds of it, there could be more than one. In an interview as part of the Korean Final Fantasy Festival, Naoki Yoshida was asked about the addition of more Deep Dungeons - and he confirmed that more were coming.

Introducing Steam Version Account Linking

As part of ongoing efforts to further enhance account security and bolster fraud prevention measures, we will be implementing an additional account verification and login confirmation process for FINAL FANTASY XIV Steam version service account holders. Users can verify their account type by logging into the Mog Station and selecting the “Service Account Status” menu where Steam service account holders will see a “(Steam)” notation.

Currently, Steam version service accounts can be used after FINAL FANTASY XIV has been launched from any instance of the Steam software.

Starting in early March 2022, users who log in using a Steam version service account will be prompted to perform a one-time link of their Steam account to their Square Enix account. From then on, the Square Enix account will need to match the Steam account that launches the FINAL FANTASY XIV software. This change will require the FINAL FANTASY XIV software to be launched from the user’s Steam library. Additionally, once the account link has been performed, users will need to utilize the new launcher layout introduced with Patch 6.0. If using the “Original Launcher Layout” setting in the launcher Config menu, please switch to the “New Launcher Layout.”

To link accounts, the Steam account must possess a FINAL FANTASY XIV license that matches that found on the target Square Enix account/FINAL FANTASY XIV service account (e.g., the Free Trial version or the full game version). You can verify the FINAL FANTASY XIV licenses on your Steam account by clicking on your Steam display name, selecting “Account details,” then “View licenses and product key activations” found under Store & Purchase History.

If your Steam account no longer has a FINAL FANTASY XIV license, or you no longer have access to the Steam account that contains the license, please contact Steam for assistance. (https://help.steampowered.com/)

FFXIV is getting Steam account linking to "enhance security"

Square Enix is introducing Steam account linking to Final Fantasy XIV to "further enhance account security and bolster fraud prevention measures". The change will come into play early next month, at which point you'll be prompted to link your FFXIV account to your Steam one if that's where you hang your hat.

To link your account, you'll need to possess an FFXIV licence that matches the one found on your Square Enix account. You can verify the licences by clicking on your Steam display name, selecting 'account details', and then clicking on 'view licences and product key activations' under the store and purchase history. If you're looking to find out what type of account you have, you can head over to the Mog Station and select the 'service account status' menu, where you should see a Steam notation if it applies to you.

Currently, you can use your FFXIV log-in to play on anyone's Steam account regardless of whether it's yours or not. However, once the change comes into play, your FFXIV log-in will be tied to one Steam account.

FFXIV's Valentine's Day event returns soon - here's when and where

Valentine's Day is nearly here, so all your favourite games are getting seasonal events to send you all aflutter, and Final Fantasy XIV is no different. While the Halloween-themed All Saints' Wake was a tad late, Valentine's Day is arriving right on time.

FFXIV's Valentione's Day event kicks off on February 8 at midnight PST, 3am PST, and 8am GMT. The event runs to February 21. Once the time comes, you can head to Old Gridania to meet Lisette de Valentione at coordinates X:10.2 / Y:9.4, who will have a seasonally appropriate quest for you. You only have to be level 15 to do it, so most of you should be just dandy.

This time around, you're getting an outfit - barding, if you're fancy - for your company-issued Chocobo mount to dress it up like a delivery person. You can also get some new decorations for your home if you're lucky enough to, uh, actually own one. Square Enix has also clarified that certain items from previous Valentine's Day events can be obtained from the House Valentione maid, so if you've missed out previously, now's your shot.
