FFXIV fan plays the Machinist role using Final Fantasy X-2 gun controllers

A controller modder has managed to play Final Fantasy XIV's Machinist class using pistol controllers from a special edition of Final Fantasy X-2. It's undoubtedly one of the more immersive ways we've seen someone play the job in the popular MMORPG.

YouTuber Louis 'Super Louis 64' Hamilton got his hands on an FFX-2 controller that's modelled after protagonist Yuna's Tiny Bee pistols. He explains on Twitter that he wanted to make a controller that made spamming the Machinist's Hypercharge ability "super fun by shooting like Devil May Cry 2" but went "too far" and developed a queuing system so he could pull off full-blown rotations.

"The triggers were first mapped to the RT and LT buttons to pull up the sub-menus for the ability," Hamilton explains. "I had to reprogram the guns themselves to actually work in FFXIV. Using the controller's d-pad, we can set up a combo that pressing the trigger would do. For example, pressing left on the d-pad queues up all left d-pad abilities whenever I pull the trigger."

Here's the new FFXIV event and patch roadmap after Endwalker's delay

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker has been delayed by two weeks. You've probably heard that if you've been looking forward to the new expansion, but today the developers have provided a few more details about what the event roadmap will look like heading into the expansion. Here's what the event and patch schedule for Endwalker will look like.

The Moogle Treasure Trove event will be extended until the start of maintenance for patch 6.0 on Friday, December 3. The Adventure Jump Start sale, which puts a bunch of level and story skips on discount in the official online store, will still end as originally scheduled on November 19.

Endwalker early access begins on Friday, December 3, alongside patch 6.0. The official Endwalker launch will follow on Tuesday, December 7. Two weeks later, on Tuesday, December 21, we'll get patch 6.01 with the normal difficulty Pandaemonium raid. Then, after another two weeks, we'll get patch 6.05 on Tuesday, January 4, with the savage difficulty Pandaemonium raid, alongside the new weekly-capped Allagan tomestones and new gear.

An FFXIV player has created an online raid simulator to help you practice mechanics

I've spent over 300 hours getting to know Final Fantasy XIV in the run-up to the Endwalker release date, and I'm still terrified of raids - the Savages and Ultimates, anyway. Luckily, one FFXIV fan has gone to the trouble of building a simulator to help you practice the mechanics of the MMORPG's most challenging encounters.

XIVsim.com has been in beta for some time, and version 1.0 just launched. As creator Appropriate_Bit2021 explains on Reddit, the beta version has seen 15,000 players run over 40,000 duties, and over the course of the beta, "multiple useful features have been added such as the ability to pause at anytime and discuss, or automatically pause on a death. Along with a much improved engine and netcode".

The Raid Simulator lets you spawn enemies and mechanics you want to try, load timelines, or create your own timeline to practice whatever you specifically need to. The tool is currently struggling under the weight of early interest, so queue times can be a bit long - but hey, DPS players at least know that struggle. Once you've grabbed a server, you can invite your friends to practice alongside you by just sending them a link.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker launch delayed by two weeks

With less than three weeks to go before the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, Square Enix announced a two-week delay for the MMORPG's fourth expansion. Previously due on the 23rd of November, it's now expected on the 7th of December. Sounds like they need more time to work on stability, though game director Naoki Yoshida's explanation was a little more dramatic, offering his "sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused to our players and colleagues due to my own shortomings."
