FINAL FANTASY XIV Online News

Final Fantasy XIV's seventh 14-hour broadcast arrives next week

The devs behind Final Fantasy XIV have made a tradition of 14-hour broadcasts celebrating the game, and the details for 2021's iteration of the event have just been confirmed. The next 14-hour is set to broadcast on July 9, and will include the previously-announced FFXIV live letter featuring Yoko Taro.

As ever, the broadcast will feature a variety of events, from the live letter to various Q&A sessions with the developers. Director and producer Naoki Yoshida will answer live questions from players, sound director Masayoshi Soken will offer a look into the game's music production, and a number of Japanese celebrities will talk about playing FFXIV.

The broadcast begins with a one-hour introduction on Friday, July 9 at 6pm PDT / 9pm EDT, or Saturday, July 10 at 2am BST, followed by the live letter. You can see the full schedule on the official site. Don't expect any massive news on Endwalker, but the Q&As may provide a few details - and you can certainly expect good vibes, all around.

Final Fantasy XIV's Fat Black Chocobo is available again - through Twitch subs

If you don't yet have Final Fantasy XIV's Fat Black Chocobo - a name I just love typing - you're in luck, as a new promo is offering access to the adorably overstuffed mount. It once again involves spending $20 USD on an Amazon-owned service, but this time, you might just get to support your favourite Twitch streamer.

From now until Tuesday, August 24 at 11am PDT / 2pm PDT / 7pm BST, you can drop gift subs to an eligible Twitch channel currently broadcasting Final Fantasy XIV in order to get one of two rewards. One sub (which costs $4.99 USD) will get you 100 Deluxe Heavenscrackers, while four subs will get you a whistle to summon your Fat Black Chocobo. You can get the full list of eligible streamers on the official site.

The last major promo for the Fat Black Chocobo came just before the launch of Shadowbringers, and required you to spend $20 on games at Amazon. Apparently Square Enix just wants to make sure Amazon gets some cut of a $20 purchase before you can get this thing.

Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.57 is live, and nerfs the raid grind

June 22, 2021 Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.57 is now live.

Final Fantasy XIV is now into the series of patches which will set the stage for the Endwalker release date in November. Today, we've got patch 5.57, which mostly brings us some big relief to the endgame grind in Shadowbringers, alongside some more convenient world visit options.

After patch 5.57, you'll now get three timeworn artifacts from Delubrum Reginae, up from just one, which should make that particular grind, well, three times faster. The weekly cap on Allagan tomestones of revelation has been doubled. Weekly restrictions on Savage Eden's Promise coffers have dropped, and you're now guaranteed two treasure coffers.

The rest of the patch notes are largely made up of quality-of-life changes like that. The other notable thing is that you can now choose to visit another randomly-chosen world server from the login screen. You won't be able to choose where you're going, but this will make it easier to log in on days when your home server is overcrowded.
