Final Fantasy 14's Hatching-tide 2021 event kicks off next week

Good news, Final Fantasy 14 fans - the MMO's annual Easter-themed event Hatching-tide is on the way, and soon. This year's iteration kicks off next week, and - as you'd expect - means some new in-game goodies to scoop up based on each year's particular flavour. This year's event? "A cracking good time!"

Head to the Final Fantasy 14 Lodestone site and you'll be left in no doubt what the theme of this year's particular Hatching-tide event is all about: "joyous mayhem" and "eggciting revelry". That means 'giant chickens with cravats', it seems. The seasonal event kicks off next Wednesday, April 14, at 9am BST / 4am EDT / 1am PDT according to the site, and runs for two weeks until April 28 at 3:59pm BST / 10:59am EDT / 7:59am PDT.

To get stuck into the event, you'll need to go find Jihli Aliapoh in Old Gridania, who'll "greet you with anxious enthusiasm", and you'll need to be at least level 15 to be eligible to join in the revelry, too.

Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion is Endwalker, which will conclude the story that's been running through the massively multiplayer game since A Realm Reborn launched in 2013. Before that will come update 5.5, which will bridge the gap between Endwalker and the previous expansion, Shadowbringers, and there's a new trailer for it below.

Final Fantasy 14's patch 5.5 trailer has arrived

The first part of Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 5.5 is coming April 13, with part two due in late May. Square Enix revealed a flashy new trailer, as well as several juicy new details, for the patch during the Letter from the Producer Live Part LXIII livestream today, so let's dive in and find out what's next for one of the biggest and best MMORPGs running right now.

The 5.5 patch, dubbed Death Unto Dawn, begins its arrival with part one on April 13, and producer Naoki Yoshida explained some of what's on the way during today's livestream event. Players can expect new main story quests, a new instanced dungeon, and new Chronicles of a New Era quests - specifically, the final chapter of the Sorrow of Werlyt.

The new dungeon, Yoshida said, supports the trust system that was introduced in Shadowbringers, which allows players to team up with up to three NPCs - meaning you'll be able to enter and clear it solo, if multiplayer games aren't really your thing.

Final Fantasy XIV patch 5.5 gets its next live letter reveal in April

Final Fantasy XIV is speeding along toward its next big expansion, Endwalker, but we've still got a couple of patches to run through before we actually get to the big, new expansion. As usual, the .5 patch release will come in two parts, and the first half of 5.5 is due to launch in under a month. There's a lot more to learn about the patch ahead of release, however, and the devs have detailed when to expect the next live letter.

Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part LXIII (or FFXIV live letter 63, if you prefer short formats) will broadcast on Friday, April 2 at 4:00AM PDT / 7:00AM EDT / 12:00PM BST. The broadcast will be in Japanese, though slides with English text will be provided, and the fan community will certainly have its usual array of live translations in places like the FFXIV Discord.

It will provide the second part of the patch 5.5 reveal, which started with the big February event that also revealed Endwalker. The patch 5.5 details have been on the vague side so far, but hey, we have gotten some new art as part of the recent teaser site update.
